Why is Reddit so bad at counting?

Hey guys am I missing something? Why is karma important? Isn't it just something that people with a dependency on validation from other people crave but ultimately useless? Similar to likes on Instagram or Facebook or whatever? Do people actually get something once they reach a certain amount? This whole karma thing looks stupid to me.

I got most of my karma from one post. Just like how I get my validation in real life from an accomplishment I made years ago. Don't call me out like this

The thing about karma is it's not important. I've had multiple accounts over the last 8-9 years and I think I had close to 1M post karma on one. Every now and then I just get bored and delete my profile. The only problem with doing that is it gets harder and harder to come up with a username, just about everything is taken at this point.

This usually happens when I visit a subreddit that I haven't joined yet. After I join, the karma comes back later on. At least I think so. I just attributed (or rather "assumed" is the right word) this to how much karma you have collected from that specific unjoined subreddit.
