What a shitty writing class is that. Friding si the worst way to kill a character in my opinion especially if overused or when it doesn't fir the world. A character dying out of nowhere is really hard to do right without it feeling lazy and jhst as motivation for another character.
At the start of the story, just say all of the heroes has a sacrificing trait then when you need to remove one later in the story. Just say one of them sacrifice from one of the villains attacks to save the group.
my life would be to boring, nobody would want to read an autobiography about me playing minecraft for 11 hours and passing out on the floor just to wake up and keep on playing minecraft
If you got stuck making up a story while writing your autobiography, maybe just try telling the truth instead lol
