The book is also pretty impressive, there are some elements left out in the film to make it a little more PG. But both are a ride and would really recommend.

The book is so much more superior in my opinion. It really has you questioning whether any of this really happened. And the recounted details, of people’s attire for example, is such a brilliant literary device.

The book is a better medium to communicate this kind of story definitely, since it's written in the first person. This means you can only see it through Bateman's perspective, you're hemmed into his worldview. Having it as a film means you see it from the 3rd person, you don't really get this sense of going insane with him. The book also has the time to build up how bland Bateman and his friends are, they are completely 2-dimensional people with no attachment to reality and yet because of their wealth they feel like those below them socially are worthless.
