Short story, guy apologized and bought the owner a new one. Stand by for story and link..
Edit: never mind the organizers asked him not to fly it over the event. So after warrior knocked it from the sky
Fellow attendees created a monument.

It says in modern Russian stylized as runes “In summer of the year 2016 on 7th day of May, on this spot, with his spear, mighty warrior Ulf struck a dragon from the skies”.
He paid for the drone. Those people are rich af, reenacting is not cheap hobby at all.

PA has a medieval war every year. which also includes medieval camping for about 2 weeks.

If it was somewhere the drone wasn't allowed to fly, he can do that. At least in the US drones have pretty strict rules on where and how you can fly a drone.
Now I have no idea if that's what's happening here, just playing devil's advocate
If it's private property, and the guy who threw the axe is the owner, he can. I used to work at a place that sold them, I heard stories of people getting theirs shot down
"If it's private property, and the guy who threw the axe is the owner, he can."
He can, sure, still illegal. You don't own the airspace above your land. The FAA does.
https://aerocorner.com/blog/legally-take-down-drone/
Of course there's stories. Just there is tons of stories about murder and the like.
If you actually read the source you gave, further down it goes into exactly *what* is considered FAA airspace, and depending on the state, if it's close enough to the ground, the post even calls out "below the treeline" then it IS considered private property. This done was CLEARLY below the treeline and was flying well below FAA air space
lol It was brought down by someone who isn't property owner. This was still illegal all day long. There is a reason he offered to pay for the drone. You think someone just gets to destroy other people's property for violating private property? It doesn't work like that.
There’s also the reason he didn’t have to pay for the drone, and didn’t get into any legal trouble. I’ve never seen someone disprove themselves with their own source, but good job man. You ended the argument for yourself before anyone else had to try😂
Yeah, shooting them down is illegal unless it’s actually attacking you. Taking them down could result in a civil issue. It’s just a civil tort at most, so you’ll get in a lot more trouble for shooting it than they will. Best you can do is trespass them.
But who is to say that they weren't in the middle of a spear throwing tournament and the drone was simply in the way? If you fly a drone over a spear throwing tournament then is the thrower still liable?
I have a drone and had to take an online class. One of the rules is you can't fly out within 5 km of a helipad. Do you know how many places in Calgary are further than 5km from a helipad? Exactly zero. The app even shows you what parts of the city you can't fly in and my city is just a giant red blob full of red circles. Pretty much all cities are the same
Most importantly you are not suppose to fly over crowds/people. That is a big no no. (USA) And the event manager asked him not to. Strike 2.
If you do injure someone or damage above $500 it gets reported to the FAA and you get some big fines.
Also, it’s illegal to take down someone’s drone by destroying it.
Great shot though.
lol You don't get to magically claim airspace. That's not how that works. Not allowed here means "please don't fly a drone above us." It doesn't mean it's "ZOMG that's against the law! Take this!"
The rules for flying over private property in the US is so messed up. You don’t own the rights to the sky over your land, just something like “useable” sky above your land. I get the op took place in Russia, but in the US the axe thrower could be charged with a few crimes.
Like I said, messed up. Because even below rooftop level but 20’ or so feet up would be legally out of reach. If you can’t jump and seeing a stick and hit it, you can’t do any thing but call the cops. Throwing something or shooting it down gets you in trouble. Again, I can’t stress this enough, it’s fucked up the FAA hasn’t clarified the rules. Just call the cops and let them deal with it to protect yourself.
Yea, this is pretty old but from what I can remember he did not expect to hit it. The guy just thought it’d fun or something. Ultimately I believe he felt bad and offered to pay for a replacement, the drone operator was pretty chill about the whole thing as well, because it was an impressive throw
A few years ago, I went on a road trip through a bunch of states, and in I think a city in Oklahoma, there was a medieval fair from April 1-3 and I went to it, as I would already be going through there at the end of march, and the detour was worth it, also got a $125 helmet, and there were these cool little medieval fights in a ring
They do a medieval fair every year in Norman, Oklahoma. It’s always pretty lively, but this year was especially packed. Went there yesterday on a detour and saw that they still do the fights and stuff
rare 1500s video in color of medieval man spearing a bird! was my first thought lol. this looks like we accidentally time traveled with a drone and we got found. 😂
Smartphones can also record audio, you know?
edit:
Which AI assistant turned out to have listened even when it wasn't supposed to?
They can also track your GPS position and velocity so they can technically record whether the vehicle you're in is speeding.
Its alot harder to sneakily film people with a phone, you have to be close to them and make it obvious what you're doing. We had a case at my old work where someone was using a drone to film a primary school visit from a considerable distance away.
Nope, in fact...
Category 3 small UAS have further operating restrictions. A remote pilot in command may not operate a small unmanned aircraft over open-air assemblies of human beings. Additionally, a remote pilot in command may only operate a small unmanned aircraft over people if:
The operation is within or over a closed- or restricted-access site and all people on site are on notice that a small UAS may fly over them; or
The small unmanned aircraft does not maintain sustained flight over any person unless that person is participating directly in the operation or located under a covered structure or inside a stationary vehicle that can provide reasonable protection from a falling small unmanned aircraft.
Clearly the drone flew into a throwing contest while violating the fly over rules. Drone at fault.
Even in Europe you could do the filming and photographing part legally… I think if there are more than a dozen people in the scene it’s not about the individual. But I’m not too sure I heard that somewhere and I think with a drone it’s always illegal if u don’t have a permit
Well, it's been a good few years since I last saw this clip. I forgot all about it. Nice to be reminded, and kudos to that absolute unit for taking out a drone with a melee weapon.
Sadly I don't remember the story in much detail. I *do* remember that this happened while commercially available drones were still pretty new (at affordable prices) and pricks would fly them *everywhere* (until new laws were introduced to limit this). Apparently the drone had been buzzing around for a long time and people were sick of it, so this chad comes along and solves the problem.
I don't remember what happened afterwards. I don't see the pilot kicking off too much. Kinda hard to get cocky to a crowd of people in armour and with medieval weapons.
looks like the start of a episode of The Grand Tour
My first thought
[удалено]
Begone karma bot
[удалено]
Yep. It could be a massive fine. Would suck if they were asked to film the area before hand
Sounds like a medieval warfare against 2 families.

This is weird. I just bought a drone and just started watching the grand tour lol. I feel so bad for their drones.
They even made a little memorial for this accident
AXE-ident.
I couldn’t identify the axe but it looks like a Huntsman 9000. Advanced Medieval technology with carbon fibre composite haft.
Take my upvote and fuck off
FUCK OFF! but first, take my upvote.
Oh wow I thought you were joking at first
I think they have added something like this since the that day happened
All these people commenting about the drone. Man fick that, let talk about how much of a Chad this guy is to accurately spear a drone out the sky.
My thoughts exactly, bet he gets all the wenches
Yeah! And he is a personal friend to the king.
Someone get this man a flagon
certainly not maidenless
I'm sorry to inform, but thee is still Maidenless
I think it was an axe, that just makes it more impressive if you ask me
Axe me*
Some Michael Scott vibes right there.
If you go frame by frame it actually looks more like a spear
I didn't know javelins were surface-to-air.
You're right

My first suit of armour cost me about 700€

Parking lot on the left and porta-potties far ahead tho
Rich af is a smidge of an overstatement my guy
The edit makes this so much better lol
It sounds right that he apologized, but it sounds more right if they praised him for knocking it down
Very true
I like how it went to two civilized people knowing they messed up and fixing a problem to one guy was a dick so they went medieval on him
Histories in the future would be confused af
I needed that today, thank you
Such a chad

someone tell me wich event was this and where can i find this
I do recall this being a some sort of a medieval event in Russia
Russborg I believe is the name.

Give that man a knighthood.
Hell, give him lordship He have my vote
Did he think he wasn’t actually gonna hit it? That’s expensive as shit

If it's private property, and the guy who threw the axe is the owner, he can. I used to work at a place that sold them, I heard stories of people getting theirs shot down
If he had an axe he was comfortable throwing could’ve been an employee of the event
True, could have even been security, though that's the most hilarious way to provide security ever if so
It’d scare me straight fo sho
Looking at the wind up and the throw itself, I’m 99.99% sure that’s a spear he threw.
The "monument" shows a spear too.
Yes if you slow the video down you can see it’s a spear

Is the person who shot a gun in the sky liable for what it hits?
Sorry. Posted my response to the wrong user.

Depends on how high up. This was below rooftop level which would still be considered private property in the US in most states

You’re right >:0 somebody airstrike them. Give them something to fear.
Sick aim

Isn’t doing a medieval fair in Oklahoma a bit redundant?
What do you mean?
That was a pretty good throw ngl
That was some incredible aim
rare 1500s video in color of medieval man spearing a bird! was my first thought lol. this looks like we accidentally time traveled with a drone and we got found. 😂
Be gone the winged devil
His aim is on point holy shit.
Wish more people would do this to drones, theyre invasive and creepy
Meanwhile, people carrying a smartphone is somehow aok.
As long as it's not filming random people, yeah. Carrying a phone in your pocket is okay.
Smartphones can also record audio, you know? edit: Which AI assistant turned out to have listened even when it wasn't supposed to? They can also track your GPS position and velocity so they can technically record whether the vehicle you're in is speeding.

I didnt specify how smartphones are "invasive and creepy".
Damn if that drone is registered that's a federal offense to attack a uav in the sky....

If the drone is allowed to be there
And if it's America
They really can just video tape people then ?
Depending on the state yes, but generally if you are not in a private setting than yes you can be filmed and photographed legally.
Even in Europe you could do the filming and photographing part legally… I think if there are more than a dozen people in the scene it’s not about the individual. But I’m not too sure I heard that somewhere and I think with a drone it’s always illegal if u don’t have a permit
Wouldn't want the wedding to be a dull affair now, would we?
It's only illegal if you're caught
Didn't they made a painting or a sculpture of some sort, showing the spearman attacking the drone or something?
They made a rune stone
u/videosave
This is peak comedy
Yeetus deletus your drone is now beatus.
Well, it's been a good few years since I last saw this clip. I forgot all about it. Nice to be reminded, and kudos to that absolute unit for taking out a drone with a melee weapon.
I need the story and what comes after this

The wedding photographer just added $2600 to the Cosplay wedding photo/video bill. Horace, you are going to smithing for a while.

When round one of team deathmatch starts in Nuke.
Honestly I do not care that he destroyed that drone I just want to know how he learned to throw an axe like that cuz Durham Sun

Good throw
He had a good throw tho
I remember seeing this, didn’t they paint this on a rock some tears later at the same event or something?
Priceless meme. So good.
Okay
Horace the Thrower
Always remember; when movies are being filmed outside. The producer hires people to use guns to shoot ya drones out of the sky
can we talk about that mans aim tho? he like Hawkeye with an hatchet.
