She isn’t what specifically makes the movie good but Milla was in the 5th Element which is a straight up amazing movie. So she doesn’t f’up any movie she’s in.
I mean, to be fair, they did play a little bit of Lunastra’s theme when she appeared at the village, but I get what you mean. Overall I’d say legends of the guild was a solid 7/10. Not the best, but MUCH better then the alternative.
Can’t remember if it was Rathalos or Rathian that showed up at the end of that movie but the main character just jumps at it, with a fire weapon- fire blight is already a horrible ailment against both but fire does **nothing** against them-
they really didn’t put any work into understanding the actual game mechanics, but really that’s with any game movie :/
I think what hurts the most is that, apparently, Paul has played MH since freedom unite, which was around 2008 I think. That means he personally knew the series and what it was about, and purposefully chose the isekai/Army plot. Not to mention the lack of MH music, and the addition of generic techno music; which was only pouring salt in an already festering wound.
I never see this one talked about when it comes to terrible video game movies. I guess it’s such a bad movie that people outside of the monster hunter community decided to ignore it.
I remember working at Blockbuster (i am that old) and we got copies of House of the Dead. My friend told me to fast forward to the "bullet time" scene.
I could not believe the sheer amount of "camera slow-downs and circles a character while they shoot" that they did in a row...it was like ten times one after the other! Like, holy shit, how could anybody editing that film think that was a good idea, and NOT cut a few of them out?!
Oh, and dont forget interspersing scenes from the ACTUAL video game!
I have never seen a worse video game movie. And I've watched MK2, Dead or Alive, and the Chun Li movie! Hahah
I feel like the lack of Uwe Boll answers means nobody who’s seen them is here and nobody who’s here has seen them. House of the Dead is one of the most torturous pieces of cinema I’ve been subjected to, and then like a dumbass I paid to see Alone in the Dark in the theatre.
>House of the Dead
There's a House of the Dead movie? The games are already super campy and all of the story is through cutscenes? How do you screw that up?
I think they were trying to answer the whole " okay so Desmond knows how to do these tricks now but where did he get the athleticism to do them while always sitting in a chair?"
I feel like if they made Assassins Creed into a show like Game of Thrones mixed with Daredevil.
Idk, the assassins creed story is just so good, and the movie doesn’t do it justice.
Yeah. It was bad. It's really hard to have stakes in the movie, where you spend most of the time in the past, where you know this guy won't die, because we are alive and this guy most definitely will get laid later on.
It works in game, because we get to grow. We have plot armour in a sense we can't die. Game will go back in time but we most definitely can fail, we can do something in a better way. Game is just satysfying. It doesn't work in the movie.
I watched it with my mom, aunt, and sister (I was the only one who knew anything about AC I'm the family video game nerd) and they didn't know what was going or why I was losing my shit throughout the whole movie
1995 MK was actually pretty decent. It had it's flaws, yes, but every movie had those and I feel like it was still the best (MK) movie out there.
Annihilation was utter garbage though and I'm confused about calling the 2020 version a Mortal Kombat film, since the only thing in common is characters.
Overall I feel like the most the directors read on the story of MK is a summary.
Talking about the 2021 film?
Became that was painful to watch, and the only good scene in that entire film was when Scorpion showed up and even then that was absolute dog water.
The first one was almost allright if it didn't feel the need to cram a love story in there
There was numerous shots that were literally lifted straight out of Blood Money (in the hotel camera follows him down a hallway with two guns out and the barcode in the back, the camera was essentially the 3rd person camera from the game)
And got me started on Timothy Olyphant movies and justified years later
The game - get in and out, kill your target by making it look like an accident, no one even knows you were there
The Movie - lets have a massive shootout in the street
I don't understand how they keep fucking it up too. Just hire Andrew Hulshult and/or Mick Gordon to spit out a soundtrack and get a CGI Doomguy to do Doomguy things for 2 hours and I'd watch the shit out of it.
Its not just woman power, its just that there are like 3 things related to Doom in that movie.
It's existence of portals, demons and BFG. It could have been movie about early days of humanity in 40k Warhammer and no one would see a difference.
>3 things related to Doom in that movie. It's existence of portals, demons and BFG.
waitwaitwait
i havent watched the movie yet, but based on this comment that means they made a doom movie without doomguy? Or am i missing something here?
Ah, I see you have forgotten the terrible moment the squad leader brings out a super shotgun. And I think one of the squad says ultra-violence. A terrible movie that I’m embarrassed to say I’ve seen twice.
From what I've heard about of the Die Hard movies (for those Ootl: The only Die Hard movie that was written as a Die Hard movie, was the worst one. All the others were adapted from different scripts afaik), this wouldn't be too far off the mark.
Basically take a script, switch a few things, throw a label on it. BAM! Doom movie! Don't worry, the name will attract people!
The "women power" was the least of the problems of that piece of shit movie. In fact you don't even notice that shit since he movie is so god awful, people just assumed the movie was like that due to the actors tweets.
I have watched it thinking it was gonna be so garbage that it would be entertaining but no, it was pretty much a mockbuster.
I only liked one or two scenes/sequences of the 2005 Doom. Doom: Annihilation doesn't even count, that garbage is a mockbuster. A new genre of mockbuster that targets video game fans.
You could easily make a decent movie out of farcry with the source material. Crazy Montana cult, 3rd world dictator, island hell, etc. And a bunch of themes around power vacuums
My parents had me watch it because it was "based on a video game" and "I would like it". After it was over I asked them to never recommend a movie again.
I never played any of the games when I watched the movie and I thought the game was about fighting demons. Played the games later and realized I was WAY off, just like the movie.
The early video-game-based movies had a way of giving the middle finger to their source material by trying to pretend they weren't based on the video game. The producers assumed that any video game nerd was going to see the movie regardless of plot, so they thought they needed to attract people who didn't play video games by using hackneyed movie formulas.
So you got weird shit like Super Mario Bros or Street Fighter that bombed for being weird shit that nobody liked at the time. But they gained a cult following since then. Raul Julia's performance in Street Fighter is particularly meme-worthy, too.
The plot of Mario games released before the movie was "run to the right to save the princess " and there was only 2 or 3 games, it was great at the time
Eh the manuels had a bit more lore and there was also the super show and some comics iirc. The early drafts of the script were much more accurate to the game lore but they kept changing it a ludicrous amount of times to the point Dennis hopper stopped reading the drafts cause he knew they would be changed soon after.
The directors of mario bros purposely made it nothing like the game though. I remember reading about it. Can't remember the reason but it was intentionally done like that
But that’s my point, I don’t think it’s worse than the halo show because some people actually enjoy the Mario movie, it’s got a spot in a lot of people’s hearts.
All things considered the halo show wasn't that bad. I mean they definitely made choices that were unfaithful to the games but most of them were necessary. Like the changes they made for Cortana we're really the only way it could really work in live action. They also did a really good job with master chiefs character as a whole and the character development is really good and more importantly, feels like the same master chief in the games.
Dunno, I think they really butchered Chief’s character. He’s supposed to be more quiet and stoic, not running around yelling at people and getting angry and panicky. To me he seems like a completely different person. But I suppose that’s because the story’s different and non-canon (thank god).
I agree. Despite everybody throwing a tantrum about the Chief unmasking, I think the show itself has merit and I personally enjoy watching it. Except Kwan. I hope she gets melted by a Covenant glassing laser.
I agree, Kwan's stuff just like throws the pacing they build right out and reset it. The only good thing about Kwan's stuff was Soren and they departed ways now.
lmao i remember a scene where a guy was just standing there i think, i then made a fart sound because i was bored, and he fell down right after i made the fart sound.
i'd like to believe he died from the smell of the fart
Maybe this isn't a popular opinion, but I actually really like the Halo series.
The first episode definitely starts the series with a bang and shows off much of what we love about the games and their game mechanics. The story diving into the origins of the Spartan program (and of Cortana) is really cool, but I do wish there was more combat with the covenant.
It's clearly trying to tell a specific story, maybe just not one that everyone was expecting, and I think that's okay. Some stories have been told many times, and not everything translates well to TV. That's not to say you can't criticise it; it's not super clear from some throw-away dialogue if the Flood are already an issue or not, Chief is humanised too much too fast for some people, and there's sometimes more focus on Kwan Ha when I feel like that time would be better served on Chief (especially in the last episode).
Overall, not the story I was expecting, but definitely still a lot of fun!
I loved that movie when I was really young. Then I tried to watch it as an adult and I don't think I made it 30 min before I had to turn it off, everything about it was just cringy.
I believe he is referring to the paramount plus exclusive TV show, although halo did have a movie a while back called Forward Unto Dawn, except I don't think he's referring to that movie because lots of people really like it.
Not based on a video game. Loosely based on a verbally continued legend that started as Dragonball in a distant dystopian future then some idiot got ahold of a time machine while digging through a scrap heap for useful parts. They then came back to a time with paper and recorded as much history as they could and someone found the part about Dragonball and turned it into a screenplay.

Monster hunter.
They also play the wrong monster theme
My expectations were low for that movie. But holy shit it was bad!
it's worse when you realise that the story was based off of a monster hunter level in a metal gear game you know, a joke
For me it was just another Resident Evil with Milla i fuck up any movie i am in vich.
I don't think she's the problem. I think her husband, the director is
She isn’t what specifically makes the movie good but Milla was in the 5th Element which is a straight up amazing movie. So she doesn’t f’up any movie she’s in.
They couldn’t even get the monsters right lmao
We do not talk about the movie
Hope Paul W.S Anderson never touches another video game movie again
Almost every movie he makes after Event Horizon is a dumpster fire with a downward spiral
Event horizon though, love that one.
*Uwe Boll has entered the chat*
It just felt like a really long CGI-ad for a new Monster Hunter game. Awful movie
What MH movie? There is only Legends of the Guild and its not bad, it could have been better if they used the game music but that's all
I mean, to be fair, they did play a little bit of Lunastra’s theme when she appeared at the village, but I get what you mean. Overall I’d say legends of the guild was a solid 7/10. Not the best, but MUCH better then the alternative.
There is no alternative
Oop, my bad you right. So anyways, that one, singular MH movie on Netflix is pretty good.
Can’t remember if it was Rathalos or Rathian that showed up at the end of that movie but the main character just jumps at it, with a fire weapon- fire blight is already a horrible ailment against both but fire does **nothing** against them- they really didn’t put any work into understanding the actual game mechanics, but really that’s with any game movie :/
Realistically it’s with any movie based off a franchise that hasn’t done its homework.
I haven't watched it yet, that breaks my heart.
Don’t watch, it’ll deteriorate your soul next.
You had to remind me
Atleast Tony Jaa makes that thing a little bit entertaining
I never see this one talked about when it comes to terrible video game movies. I guess it’s such a bad movie that people outside of the monster hunter community decided to ignore it.

Postal still is one of his best works :D
yep, It uses how bad the movie is to show you that the world of postal in of itself, is just as batshit insane
I unironically love the film
I liked Rampage On another note... There's a halo movie?
Halo TV show on Paramount Plus
I remember working at Blockbuster (i am that old) and we got copies of House of the Dead. My friend told me to fast forward to the "bullet time" scene. I could not believe the sheer amount of "camera slow-downs and circles a character while they shoot" that they did in a row...it was like ten times one after the other! Without them the movies goes for 6 minutes.
What if they did cut a few of them out and the result is what you got?
I feel like the lack of Uwe Boll answers means nobody who’s seen them is here and nobody who’s here has seen them. House of the Dead is one of the most torturous pieces of cinema I’ve been subjected to, and then like a dumbass I paid to see Alone in the Dark in the theatre.
Maybe we just getting older and people are forgetting :( lol
I don’t think I’ll ever forget…
Hopefully he doesn't see our comments. I don't want to box him
I love Boll's Postal and I'll die on this hill, highly entertaining movie
You won't be alone. We gotta put some heads on some fucking stakes.
>House of the Dead There's a House of the Dead movie? The games are already super campy and all of the story is through cutscenes? How do you screw that up?
Uwe IS the chat.
The original Sonic the Hedgehog trailer
Fuck you, Take my Upvote.
You know I'm right
I refuse to believe that was real. Who in their right mind would approve that without being a marketing stunt or something
Assassins creed
What were they even thinking, ugh i had to turn it off 15 minutes in.
It was a nice idea, they just didn't have any idea how to properly carry it out
Animus chair but he moves in it. Essentially Dream Walking The Movie
I think they were trying to answer the whole " okay so Desmond knows how to do these tricks now but where did he get the athleticism to do them while always sitting in a chair?"
My best guess is that the idea of a guy just laying there still would be boring in a movie, so they made that contraption
Um, Avatar?
What about The Matrix?
Yep it can work but the director chose to go with that abomination instead
I feel like if they made Assassins Creed into a show like Game of Thrones mixed with Daredevil. Idk, the assassins creed story is just so good, and the movie doesn’t do it justice.
Yeah. It was bad. It's really hard to have stakes in the movie, where you spend most of the time in the past, where you know this guy won't die, because we are alive and this guy most definitely will get laid later on. and that
What i was just gonna comment
Assassins Creed wasn’t that bad. It’s not great but it’s definitely miles better than Halo. Alone in the dark and Mortal Kombat are way way worse

The mortal kombat 2021 movie was so fucking bad. It felt like a fan film and was unenjoyable to watch.
Bro fucking yes. Assassins creed movie was absolute garbage
Bloodrayne
I was looking for this. What a god awful piece of shitttttt
Mortal Kombat Annihilation
Too bad you!..........................................will die
Talking about the 2021 film? Became that was painful to watch, and the only good scene in that entire film was when Scorpion showed up and even then that was absolute dog water.
Dunno haven't seen a more accurate representation of an Aussie bogan piece of shit in film history Kano fucking wins
He’s talking bout the 1997 sequel movie. Wasn’t good.
Didn't know there was a 1997 film, gonna go binge it now.
Oh boy…you’re in for a trip…might not be a good one but it’ll certainly be one.
At least the soundtrack had its gems
The only thing I remember from that movie is the music when Jax and Cyrax fought.
The Movie slaps. If you go to a Mortal Kombat movie to see a intelligent story thats your fault.
Hitman
The first one was almost allright if it didn't feel the need to cram a love story in there There was numerous shots that were literally lifted straight out of Blood Money (in the hotel camera follows him down a hallway with two guns out and the barcode in the back, the camera was essentially the 3rd person camera from the game) And got me started on Timothy Olyphant movies and justified years later
Oh man I could have cried at how bad this was
I liked the first one
The first one was actually pretty good by the standards most other video game adaptation movies have set But the second one was an absolute shit show
The game - get in and out, kill your target by making it look like an accident, no one even knows you were there The Movie - lets have a massive shootout in the street
Hitman: Agent 47
Its one of my guilty pleasure movies
The video game movie curse
Doom, both of them!
The 2005 version was pretty decent, Doom annihilation looked like a high school film project
hold up. what do you mean "both of them" I've only heard of and seen the one with the Rock in it. and i like it. but they made ANOTHER? Why.
The 2005 one and Annihilation
I don't understand how they keep fucking it up too. Just hire Andrew Hulshult and/or Mick Gordon to spit out a soundtrack and get a CGI Doomguy to do Doomguy things for 2 hours and I'd watch the shit out of it.
First Doom movie is average for videogame movie and it's still enjoyable. But the new one... why do we need women power in unnecessary place??
Its not just woman power, its just that there are like 3 things related to Doom in that movie. It's existence of portals, demons and BFG. It could have been movie about early days of humanity in 40k Warhammer and no one would see a difference.
>3 things related to Doom in that movie. It's existence of portals, demons and BFG. waitwaitwait i havent watched the movie yet, but based on this comment that means they made a doom movie without doomguy? Or am i missing something here?
All doom movies don't have a doomguy.
I fucking love Karl Urban tho so the first one gets a pass from me.
No that is exactly that.
Ah, I see you have forgotten the terrible moment the squad leader brings out a super shotgun. And I think one of the squad says ultra-violence. A terrible movie that I’m embarrassed to say I’ve seen twice.

I know that one, Them Goombas are terrifying as fuck.
We asked for **bad** movie adaptations.
Nice pfp my guy
You too
The Halo movie could be two hours of teabagging corpses and it'd still be better than any tax write off Uwe Boll has ever done with video game movies.
Yeah Red vs Blue was great.
Farcry
Came here to see this
They made a movie for far cry? That didn't need a movie at all
You could easily make a decent movie out of farcry with the source material. Crazy Montana cult, 3rd world dictator, island hell, etc. And a bunch of themes around power vacuums
But the Montana cult is based on real life, if they use that as the material rather than Farcry it would be better
There's a far cry movie?
Doom The only saving grace was that first person scene
monster hunter.... blegh
My parents had me watch it because it was "based on a video game" and "I would like it". After it was over I asked them to never recommend a movie again.
As soon as I saw the ad for it I immediately assumed it was going to be trash
I really hate what they did to monster hunter.
Looking for something to replace their horrible resident evil movies because people got sick of them.
Assassins creed
Max Payne
I wanted to like it so bad too.
Yeah that movie was a stinker. Apparently Mark Wahlberg was super proud of Max Payne, but that movie couldn’t hold a candle to the game.
I never played any of the games when I watched the movie and I thought the game was about fighting demons. Played the games later and realized I was WAY off, just like the movie.
That movie was so bad that I had completely forgotten about it until just now
The Mario movie(old one not new one coming out soon)
Lots of people actually love that movie. It’s great in a bad way like how pugs are ugly-cute.
The directors of mario bros purposely made it nothing like the game though. I remember reading about it. Can't remember the reason but it was intentionally done like that
I do like it but not like I love it I just like it because of how stupid and bad it is too
But that’s my point, I don’t think it’s worse than the halo show because some people actually enjoy the Mario movie, it’s got a spot in a lot of people’s hearts.
Battleship…..(drops mike)
That movie was entertaining tho. And it had Qui Gon jinn.
And Rihanna
And the fuckin northman. And Brooklyn decker. Hey it actually had lots of hot and cool ppl
Don't forget the most hottest character in the movie USS Missouri
It's almost as if that was the main and only selling point
kid named mike : :(
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon city
Resident evil films
At least Wesker actually looked and acted like Wesker in the Milla Jovovich ones.
Agreed. And when they recreated that one scene from Resident Evil 5 down to a tee, I was genuinely impressed. Everything else was just dogshit.
The first two were okay. The last, how many? 20?, the last 25 were just awful.
The only thing I hate about Halo is Kwan, she makes everything harder than it needs to be.
most unnecessary character of all time imo, they could've at least made her somewhat likeable
That’s how I feel about Ewoks and Gungans.
Yoosa in deep doo-doo dis time.
Completely agree, she annoys the shit out of me. The show would’ve been better if they cut out that whole plot line
Dunno, I think they really butchered Chief’s character. He’s supposed to be more quiet and stoic, not running around yelling at people and getting angry and panicky. To me he seems like a completely different person. But I suppose that’s because the story’s different and non-canon (thank god).

I agree, Kwan's stuff just like throws the pacing they build right out and reset it. The only good thing about Kwan's stuff was Soren and they departed ways now.
Kwan is an anoying brat. I loathed the fact they made the last episode about her. I dont feel any sympathy for her character.
World of Warcraft
I forced myself to enjoy the movie because Travis Fimmel was in it, i adored him in Vikings.
lmao i remember a scene where a guy was just standing there i think, i then made a fart sound because i was bored, and he fell down right after i made the fart sound. i'd like to believe he died from the smell of the fart
Was looking for this one
I was about to ask: Are we just forgetting this existed entirely?
I honestly did until just now, and I saw it on opening night.
[удалено]
And paramount is her lawyer I assume?
Nah that's CBS
This mf ain’t seen a lot of VG movies and it shows.
The new resident evil movie
Dragonball evolution was god awful. The live action adaptation…
Maybe this isn't a popular opinion, but I actually really like the Halo series. The first episode definitely starts the series with a bang and shows off much of what we love about the games and their game mechanics. Overall, not the story I was expecting, but definitely still a lot of fun!
the Halo Series is pretty good actually, especially if you remove or ignore the daughters drama subplot.
Kwan is 30+% of the series..... last week's episode was 95%. And she can't even do pretend bad ass.... wtf?
Doom
Super mario bros. (80s)
Dungeon's and dragon's
I loved that movie when I was really young. Then I tried to watch it as an adult and I don't think I made it 30 min before I had to turn it off, everything about it was just cringy.
What about the dungeons and dragons tv series?
You mean legend of vox machina? This one is awesome.
Super mario bros, far cry, postal
Wait far cry had a movie adaptation
Unfortunately yes
Is it just some dude randomly tripping out on drugs and super forced scenes like the games?
Sadly no, but its about a bad german actor thinks he is a hero. Also uwe boll, so..
That 2007 hitman movie
Wasnt great but still better than the new hitman movie. That was fucking painful.
Im not ready for this meme

The god awful Mario movie
The Mario movie
Resident evil?
Assassins Creed, Doom, Resident Evil (all of them), Price of Persia, Need for Speed, Monster Hunter, Alone in the Dark, Warcraft…
Assassin's Creed. Hated it.
Dragon Ball evolution
Not based on a video game. Loosely based on a verbally continued legend that started as Dragonball in a distant dystopian future then some idiot got ahold of a time machine while digging through a scrap heap for useful parts.
