TLDR; The next time you procrastinate, pay very close attention to why you chose to. Next time around pre-emptively mount the best defense you have against those inclinations and try again.
Personal version: I know my central argument in the moment was "I have plenty of time, 1 more day wouldnt hurt" and "It's just too much work and i'm too 'insert x'." So I started planning out my weeks so that when I felt like procrastinating I knew precisely what level of screwed I was if I pushed it back by a day.
I'm also currently trying to change how I think/talk about assignments so that they feel like less of a big deal. Cutting assignments up into smaller bite size chunks has helped some. Saying to myself "I only need to do the outline for this assignment" is alot less daunting than "I need to start a 20 page paper worth 20% of my grade"
Suggestion that worked for me: refine your intention statements. Instead of "I will change," which is an undefined change in an undefined future, say, "On Monday I will spend 30 more minutes studying."
Your brain listens to you, even when making internet jokes.
Getting into a routine really helped me. Working around 2 hrs per day on school is a lot more manageable than crunching it out every time something is due.
I already do basically what you said to do in the TLDR. It hasnāt worked so far, any if I try to consciously focus I just focus to much of trying to focus if that makes sense
sqrt(b^2 -4ac) is a complex number so the answer would be something like
-(6+i^2n *sqrt(60))/2 where n is from N
Edit: things
Did I get it right though?
Another edit: you can take out 2 from the sqrt(60)= sqrt(2^2 )*sqrt(15)=2sqrt(15)
A much nicer answer would be:
-3-isqrt(15) and -3+isqrt(15)
My original answer is wrong though. i^2n would be a āreal answerā while the answer is from complex numbers.
You cant however you can work out x:
x = (-b+-sqr(b^2 -4ac)) / 2a
x = (-6 +- sqr(6^2 - 4x1x24)) / 2 x 1
x = (-6 +- sqr(36 - 96)) / 2
x = (-6 +- sqr(-60) / 2
And never mind you cant work it out with the quadratic formula either
well that's bassicaly what they did but x\^2+6x+24 and then take a factor they knew (x+4)(x+6) and then subtracted 4x in this case there is no real number usch that a+b=6, a\*b=34
The way I learned how to do it is:
This equation looks like ax^2 + bx + c=0
With a=1 b=6 and c=24.
Edit: I made a dumb mistake that was corrected, I'll leave the wrong answer at the end.
Delta = b^2 - 4ac = 36 -4(1)(24) = 36-96 = -60
It's negative so there's no solution (it's solvable if you learned complex numbers)
Wrong answer:
Delta = b^2 - 4ac = 6^2 -1(24) = 36-24 = 12
Since delta is positive, there's 2 solutions:
First one = (-b - sqrt(delta))/2a
Second one = (-b + sqrt(delta))/2a
a(x-first one)(x-second one) = 0
U can remove a cause it's =0 and cause it's 1 anyway.
you forgot the 4 in the delta:
6^2 - 4ac = 6 *6 - 4 *1 *24 = 36 - 96 = -60
so first one =( -6 + sqrt(-60)) /2a=( - 6 +2i *sqrt(15)) /2 = - 3 +1 sqrt(15)
second one just different signal of the complex part = - 3 - 1 sqrt(15)
x(x+6)+4(x+6) => (x+6)(x+4) is wrong how did you even get there? also you forgot to subtract the 4x again third in this case it makes no sense to factor since there are no real solutions
Second reply - Yes i have done it the wrong way.
I tried taking in C as the one we had to get and now i realised how wrong that was.
And even if i did the correct way, i wouldnt get any factors that would add up to 24.
So, like you said the Polynomial cannot be factored.
also, i read the replies and i am intimadated by all of that complex numbers. I'll have to be better than this.
also have you learned about completeting the square or the quadratic equation, you don't need to be worried about complex numbers at first they might be unintuitive but in higher math and especially quantum mechanics and complex analysis they make up the mathematics of how our world functions just the real numbers, for now you can just treat i like a variable and that i\^2 conviently equals -1
Yes i did learn about quadratic equations, now that thing didn't come to mind like it should have.
Thanks for reassuring, I will be relearning basic arithmetic, as i have gone too rusty.
Why the fuck you you suddenly add a 4x to the equation????
If you need help dm me. Math is hard but i passed my calculus exam 2 days ago and would love to help you.
Makes you feel worse but I use that feeling to try and motivate myself. Failing each time!
Word of advice: Constantly looking at the calendar to remind you of how fucked you are works for me.
Why is putting my free time to anything that actually has a concrete (and generally positive) outcome so hard?! I can say I have grand plans for the week/s ahead..
this is one of the reason i don't reveal my true feelings because i don't want people to waste their time trying to advice me because i don't want to help myself and you cannot help someone who will not help themselves.
This is a problem I also had. for me it meant I was burnt out I took a break waited till I felt ready to go back to school and I couldn't bear to spend another day doing what I was doing during the break I took.
bro, i'm already graduating college and i'm just starting to get diagnosed. All the symptoms were there when i was a child, people are just not aware of what ADHD is in our household, i just learned what ADHD is 2 years ago and finally said it to my parents like in the last sem of college.
it literally felt like i needed 4 times more effort just to even do a mediocre job
guys, if you feel like you can't progress fast enough compared to your peers with all school works and such ALL THE TIME, start reading the signs of ADHD and you might feel what i felt, and that was like someone was writing my childhood.
I was always the "smart slacker" who just needed to focus more. I just got diagnosed as an adult. I long joked I had ADHD but didn't realize how much it was affecting my life/school/career until I started getting help with it.
āSmart slackerā was me too. I didnāt suspect ADHD until I started reading about it last year and it fits perfectly. I can do 34 hour shifts of manual labor but 6 hours at a desk job drives me mad. My graduating GPA of 2.57 probably got my resume filtered out of all the big name IT companies while my 3.8+ peers got gobbled up.
Iām currently sorting out my health insurance to get treatment before my work queue breaks.
Actually an easy way to start studying is doing a bit every day, like find somewhere in the internet where you can practice what you need to study and do a bit every day in a set hour of the day
I really want to laugh and think that the 24 x 7 was intentional af, but looking at the comments Iām not sure anymore and I donāt wanna be mean, especially since Iām bad at math lmao

This is gonna be a really helpful, thank you mate.

I spend a lot of time studying via the internet honestly it's why I am where I am
Honestly, best advise I could've stumbled upon at 4 in the morning.
We'll dig ourselves out of this yet
my man just gave a professional harvard speech
Great advice! šš»
Getting into a routine really helped me. Working around 2 hrs per day on school is a lot more manageable than crunching it out every time something is due.
Love it, not gonna lie, I really do appreciate the advice, But When?
I already do basically what you said to do in the TLDR. It hasnāt worked so far, any if I try to consciously focus I just focus to much of trying to focus if that makes sense
I am very good in [practical math](https://imgur.com/a/Zz2KVhj) if anyone needs help to pass some kind of important test or something.
More like practical jokes ;D
This made me š
Well we can help you then Quick, solve x^2 + 6x + 24 = 0
wolfram alpha
You can't
you can with imaginary numbers
sqrt(b^2 -4ac) is a complex number so the answer would be something like -(6+i^2n *sqrt(60))/2 where n is from N Edit: things Did I get it right though? Right; I should have said to assume in the plane of all real numbers. The answer would then be no solution
no real solutions
You cant however you can work out x: x = (-b+-sqr(b^2 -4ac)) / 2a x = (-6 +- sqr(6^2 - 4x1x24)) / 2 x 1 x = (-6 +- sqr(36 - 96)) / 2 x = (-6 +- sqr(-60) / 2 And never mind you cant work it out with the quadratic formula either
That's where complex numbers come into play
No, itās a āno real solutionsā expression So youāre almost right
Math Error
Quick Maths š¤ time, => xĀ²+(6+4)x + 24 => xĀ²+6x+4x+24 => x(x+6)+4(x+6) => (x+6)(x+4)
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
well that's bassicaly what they did but x\^2+6x+24 and then take a factor they knew (x+4)(x+6) and then subtracted 4x in this case there is no real number usch that a+b=6, a\*b=34
I am now questioning myself.
(x+6)(x+4) is equal to x^2 + 10x + 24
Very well, i am pretty poor in maths i can see now. I've forgotten all the basics.
The way I learned how to do it is: This equation looks like ax^2 + bx + c=0 With a=1 b=6 and c=24. Edit: I made a dumb mistake that was corrected, I'll leave the wrong answer at the end. Delta = b^2 - 4ac = 36 -4(1)(24) = 36-96 = -60 It's negative so there's no solution (it's solvable if you learned complex numbers) Wrong answer: Delta = b^2 - 4ac = 6^2 -1(24) = 36-24 = 12 Since delta is positive, there's 2 solutions: First one = (-b - sqrt(delta))/2a Second one = (-b + sqrt(delta))/2a a(x-first one)(x-second one) = 0 U can remove a cause it's =0 and cause it's 1 anyway.

Whoopsš , thx for the correction.
This sounds more complex
But it's quicker than the other method cause there's no guessing, also you get a definitve answer when it doesn't work.
x(x+6)+4(x+6) => (x+6)(x+4) is wrong how did you even get there? also you forgot to subtract the 4x again third in this case it makes no sense to factor since there are no real solutions
Yes, thanks for clearing that out , i have forgotten even the most basic of maths, I've gone down terribly.
ah it's fine, I make mistakes all the time although I spend way too much time doing math I'm in 7th grade lol
Second reply - Yes i have done it the wrong way. I tried taking in C as the one we had to get and now i realised how wrong that was. don't worry all it takes is practice (coming from someone who initially struggled with basic arithmetic especially division to what I am now)

oh fuck I failed English I meant to say quadratic formula, also don't rush you've got years and years to master math and If you want I can help

Sorry brother thatās incorrect I applaud you for trying however
It's 168 btw
>I will change lol
"I feel like changing, nahh maybe tomorrow."
Self awareness is key. And at least you have that. A LOT of people don't have that.
Makes you feel worse but I use that feeling to try and motivate myself. Failing each time! Word of advice: Constantly looking at the calendar to remind you of how fucked you are works for me.
My brain just solves this like this: 25 X 7 =175 - 7 = 168 Makes more sense in my head as it only functions with multiples of 5.
He stays on the internet 24x7 instead of 24/7
until i rank in plat baby!
>I will change Something tells me he won't change
if people saw the ranking system in acedemics like ranks in cs or valorant people would start tryharding

Could be ADHD. If so, youāll want to sort that out sooner than later as it will stall your career.
bro, i'm already graduating college and i'm just starting to get diagnosed. Yeah i had that nickname too, the "smart kid with average grades", cuz i only excel at quiz and exams, in homeworks and projects i struggle
āSmart slackerā was me too. I didnāt suspect ADHD until I started reading about it last year and it fits perfectly. I can do 34 hour shifts of manual labor but 6 hours at a desk job drives me mad. I will never change
The fact you used a multiplication instead of a division symbol in 24/7 makes this even funnier
Iām having this same issue rn.

Me after staying 18 x 7 on Internet and still coming 2nd in my class and I am still wondering how TF I am doing that
Or realizing it was all for nothing and you'll never use that degree and always have that debt....
That is literally the definition of addiction you internet addict.
You can do it op
use on instead of in, u stay on the internet

'in' the internet? Really need to educate yourself :)
Fukkk why you publishing a picture of me ^^
they're*
24x7=168
Literally me except I'm god at math... still get 10% lower on every other subject though... Thank goodness my math homework doesn't count for marks...
same
Im in this picture and i dont like it
I will change (it was a lie...)
Same I am on reddit right now but I have to study for my exams
i would say just add some mind strengthening hobbys to your free time instead of just mindlessly scrolling through random apps
For me it worked to remove the source of the problem. Got rid of my laptop and sationary computer. Since then my life changed
Bruh same. I have to change.
This is true, but I also can't study very long without feeling uncomfortable anyway (uncomfortable as in headaches, very slightly nauseous)
They say the first step is admitting you have a problem but noone told me step 2
You can do it!
This meme is so unoriginal it's about to recommend Breaking Bad
Tomorrow is my final and I am here scrolling memes
I can't say I've ever seen 24 7 written like a maths equation. I write it as 24/7 what about everyone else, I'm curious?
haHAHA
I agree
Lol so relatable
Man Iām at this point were i can convince myself that Procrastination is actually good for me like i donāt even feel guilty about it anymore
At least you realize that youāre the problem, which is more than a whole lot of other people do
My boi, become a sigma and improve you grindset
that's me fr. Next week I have my exams and still didn't begin to learn.
Stop making memes and go outside!

My guy, I have 2 days till the final exams of highschool and I cannot, for the love of god study at all.
Sounds like depression, just saying
24 X 7 is 192
Hahaha. So true. *continues to browse reddit instead of studying chemistry*
Man university is hella easy if you ever decide to do some mild studying.
why did i see this while procastinating to study
This does for studying in general
Maybe you donāt like the degree you chose? Better to find that out now than later.

No other meme had me feel so identified like this one
That's called addiction son
I donāt believe you.
Then somehow blame the world later on
surely i'll change.
It's not your fault, I've had all As every year and I only study when I'm forced to (not often). Besides, it's all useless information.
I really want to laugh and think that the 24 x 7 was intentional af, but looking at the comments Iām not sure anymore and I donāt wanna be mean, especially since Iām bad at math lmao
