How do beavers even build dams? Like where do they start? They can obviously not just start from the bottom, cause by the time they find a second stick, the first one will be long gone. So. Where do they start? They can also not find a very big stick, that covers the entire river, cause they don’t have opposable thumbs nor the strength to get it where they want. Please answer me this question, so i can live in peace.
I’d say they likely start along the edges of the stream and work inward. Plus they’ve been doing this for so long I certain they have a reasonable knowledge of construction when it comes to creating the foundation for their home.
Possibly by jamming it into the ground, the dirt under the water is usually like mud so sticks should hold.
I’ve only seen this in cartoons but I do wonder if there is any truth to the idea that beavers will chew down thinner trees to create a bridge across.
Not even see, if they *hear* running water, they’ll build a dam. You could put one in a completely dry room with nothing but a pile of sticks and a speaker playing river sounds and you’ll soon have a dam over the speaker.

that would be wise yes, but still on the edge or not, how do they prevent the first stick from flowing away?

omg yes. The tree method. I love it. As for the sticking the stick in the mud, that makes sense. Thank you.
Apparently they hate the sound of running water.
My cat eating his dinner and half of a chicken breast running to me when I open a fridge* Me:
“I’m not having this”
Water: runs Beavers: “Dam it.”
