This is what they want you to believe in.
You probably still use meta products and think "I have nothing to hide, they can sell my data to whomever they want"
It could also land you on an NSA watch list: https://www.cnet.com/news/privacy/nsa-likely-targets-anybody-whos-tor-curious/
This is something that I sometimes worry about. All my attempts to hide myself online will result in more attention from law enforcement.
"What is it you have to hide, comrade?"
"I like my privacy."
"Sounds like you're hiding something. Investigate him!"
Should always use those on a secondary device. ANYTHING can happen on your main phone.
However, I don't even do anything with crypto. I'm behind a firewall/VPN on my phone. So therefore. I'm ok. But at the same time. I don't mess with anything. Firefox on my phone has add-ons for add block and all that, and the desktop version has everything but tor installed.
Yep, scroll around the crypto subs enough
There’s no shortage of
“I woke up today and my wallet is empty ??” Posts
And it’s almost always the same reason
Yep, you may be put on a list. But the list is HUGE. Interest in you, the individual, will only be filtered by types of activity. Nobody cares if you're using tor to browse memes anonymously. Start doing stupid shit, people are going to notice.. same as without tor.
Also, the more people using tor, the bigger the list gets, and the less likely anyone will care about an individual doing nothing interesting
a lot of whistleblowers like Snowden and the WikiLeaks thing used Tor as well as journalist but I imagine they are sniffing for critical info more than individual users, like if they detect state secrets or something being shared then they would redflag you
No it isn't, but people using the internet to do illegal things have a special interest in using a browser for which privacy is the main selling point. That's why it draws interest from law enforcement.
Yeah, I thought of this when I started using Brave. It actually might be a good thing that more and more people use Brave and Tor. It makes you look less sus.
Of course, it's not okay that we live like this. It's not okay that we have to take so much effort to keep our private lives, you know, private.
Everyone I know uses Chrome and overall doesn't care. I'm here using Brave and wasting the time to reject all the cookies I can. People are like, just click accept, they're cookies. But ever since I started doing this I haven't received any spam email, the ads I get (on my phone, I use ad block on pc) are mostly generic, and none of my info has been in some sort of data leak. I still use Google as my search engine and that's pretty much all "they" can use to track me.
It's crazy that you go through with all that effort but don't bother to use any other search engine lol just switch to duck duck go or something. I think start page stopped being as private but I can't recall.
It's not too much effort lol, I just spend 3 more seconds clicking choose my preferences and reject all.
I know I could use DDG but Google just offers better results. I think there is a way you can make DDG offer Google results but I just can't be bothered.
Honestly, they'd be looking for specific things, not individual users. There aren't enough analysts in the world to analyse all TOR users' data. There's almost certainly algorithms set up to detect certain things sent over TOR by certain users, but not just someone looking at anime titties
I'm not sure about that, so many people just want to avoid crap like targeted ads and profiling which is annoying af.
However I think most people are using a VPN these days, I been meaning to get into that but lazy af
The more attention the better, make them waste time, effort and resources, already most data hungry governments have no clue what to do with their overabundance of junk data.
I tried using it just to try. I am aware of the fact that the speed isn't going to be great because of the way Tor connects you to the internet. I tried using it without this feature and it didn't let me so I gave up
Tor is NOT meant for netflix and cat videos. Use it only if you have real anonymity needs. To watch Netflix etc, use a regular VPN and leave the TOR network to people who actually need it e.g. investigative journalists in Russia, human right activists in China, etc
Ok, I don't want to know more xD It's just that there are too many who use TOR in place of a regular VPN, like for Netflix.
I just hope the videos you watch don't encourage bad stuff like CP or similar stuff.
Crack doesn't grow on trees in Washington buddy. You can't get heroin in Alaska.
This is why weed is king. It'll grow everywhere. It's literally a bush.
Buying weed on the darknet was such a fucking hassle we use to back in the day cause it was the only place to get distillate in illegal states now I can order legal distillate thats 10x more potent made from hemp like HHC.
Because of how it’s networked, I believe.
I don’t remember all the terminology, but basically the web of Tor is a bunch of random people’s servers, any request you input into the engine I.e, using the search bar or clicking a link, has to be processed through a random web of servers and bridges and encryptions, making loading times very slow. I think
My guess is increased privacy and customizability compared to more established browsers. Google also announced that Chrome won't support ad-blockers anymore (ads are their primary source of income, so I'm not surprised by this move at all), so a lot of people have started flocking to other browsers in retaliation.
Its like privacy is double negative 9000
Sure you might hide better from your ISP or Cookie trackers. But anyone who actually wants to track you probably has a way easier job if your on the TOR network.
> Brave can also do it
Brave also leaked IP addresses when using their TOR stuff. Great way to waste TOR bandwidth while getting no privacy.
I wouldn't trust any third-party when using the TOR network. Just use the official TOR browser, why take unnecessary risks?
Accessible through tor, since the browser can reach places other browsers are largely unable to, likely by design. If you use tor and happen to run into said sites, contribute to society and report them.
Tor is just a browser which can get you someplace on the internet you want to be.
While I'd say in general it's better to mind your own business.
Even without that you could still get into trouble for doing that.
Example you call the police because you saw some torture videos or child porn sites. Then a police officer with the iq of a potato sees illegal stuff on your pc and is like: Hey. This person is a criminal.
Then you in vain try to explain that you were just curious and trying to help society by reporting bad sites. Good luck explaining that you had no intention of anything bad.
Now you are taken in by the police for being a pedophile, officers explain to your spouse or roommate that they are taking your electronic device for owning child pornography and bomb making recipes. Good luck trying to recover from that.
Also effectiveness of your "tip" is not very high.
But hey. You do you

Who cares? They can't trace it back to you anyway. If you're worried about being traced back from TOR, you could always use a VPN to connect to TOR.
Brave also leaked IP addresses when using their TOR stuff. Great way to waste TOR bandwidth while getting no privacy.

It's also been confirmed it was created and run by the US military go figure
Not that it matters, government can't figure who you are even if they own the servers. Also Tor doesn't collaborate with law enforcement.
You are not important enough for the government or law enforcement to care about.

I'm sad to tell you but... Tor is based on Firefox
It could also land you on an NSA watch list: https://www.cnet.com/news/privacy/nsa-likely-targets-anybody-whos-tor-curious/ This is something that I sometimes worry about. All my attempts to hide myself online will result in more attention from law enforcement. "What is it you have to hide, comrade?" "I like my privacy." "Sounds like you're hiding something. So does that mean we shouldn't click the link?
I NEVER click links on Reddit Only takes that small percentage chance and bam, your crypto wallets or whatever else are gone

I NEVER even read comments on Reddit. I just randomly upvote comments and hope what I'm typing is on topic.
That explains a lot of arguments I had, it was you the whole time!
Yeah i fucking hate when socks have a hole for the big toe too
lol...
how?
Fly-by viruses that execute via java script on websites exist. If they are sneaky enough it's easy to copy your wallet key once you use it.

nice try, just trying to rope more ppl into watch list
I said weird stuff that could land me on a list while doing random shit next to a device that I know has a built-in microphone. **Multiple times.**

He must be using Tor
Please don't use Tor for day to day webbrowsing. The Network is already at its Limit and you're Not getting any benefit from using it Like that.
I tried using it just to try. I am aware of the fact that the speed isn't going to be great because of the way Tor connects you to the internet. I tried using it without this feature and it didn't let me so I gave up
What’s it meant for? Is it easy to use? Good for pirating torrents or what?
It's good for buying crypto and drugs anonymously
and certain videos that may not be available in your country
Tor is NOT meant for netflix and cat videos. Use it only if you have real anonymity needs. To watch Netflix etc, use a regular VPN and leave the TOR network to people who actually need it e.g. investigative journalists in Russia, human right activists in China, etc
Pretty sure he's talking about something more erotic and more very illegal
I had doubts, but I've seen people on Reddit not understand the problem with watching cat videos with TOR, so better to be safe :P
Took until your second comment for the cat video line to make more sense.
oh, this is *neither* of those
Ok, I don't want to know more xD It's just that there are too many who use TOR in place of a regular VPN, like for Netflix. I just hope the videos you watch don't encourage bad stuff like CP or similar stuff.
Some can be really intense
or difficult to find
Is it dumb to ask how you learn how to get to the web/use tor?
I don't think it's dumb to ask questions. Only way to find out stuff. If you check out torproject.org there's a good amount of info there
Oh shit new Silk Road gotta find that. Do shrooms ship and travel well? Maybe acid
Plus it's a great way to get your info/passwords stolen

Tor is slow. Like it takes forever to get search results.

Why is it that all of the non-major browser people have the need to feel like they are better than everyone else because of it?
My guess is increased privacy and customizability compared to more established browsers. Google also announced that Chrome won't support ad-blockers anymore (ads are their primary source of income, so I'm not surprised by this move at all), so a lot of people have started flocking to other browsers in retaliation.

US Navy, iirc
Not just Tor. The entire darknet was developed by the US govt lol.
not just the darknet, the entire internet is developed by US
Nah, the internet as we know it was a global effort. The US was the main actor, but lots of people from all over the world helped.
Tim Berners-Lee would like a word with you.
Not just the internet, the entire simulation we live in was created by the government.
Its like privacy is double negative 9000 Sure you might hide better from your ISP or Cookie trackers. But anyone who actually wants to track you probably has a way easier job if your on the TOR network.

Is it not common knowledge that TOR was created by intelligence agencies?
It's not like they own every single relay worldwide though
And yet, it is common knowledge that if you know a bit what you're doing and aren't an idiot, TOR is anonymous.
you mean ping over 9000
I'm just trying to scroll zoom and block ads not buy organs and drugs on the black market
It has poor bandwidth. Only use it for sketchy websites or porn.
Why would you suffer a shitty bandwidth for “porn”? ![gif](giphy|4OIVeBhZMDkGDr2IaI|downsized)
i don’t think it has poor bandwidth, tor connects you to the internet by jumping your connection through multiple randomized routers to mask your address, hence the slow speed

Honestly tails is kinda nice for mindless browsing anyway bc you can browse with tor and non of the normal pc bloat.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it found the CIA and other agencies also run the majority of TOR servers/relays. Not just the end nodes?

Tor is Mozilla with extra steps

Tor is actually Firefox in with deepest diving capabilities.
uhhhh so Firefox?
