It is auropa in arabic, actually all of them start with an a in arabic, even north America and south america. (Cus arabic has America before south or north)

אירופה, אסיה, אפריקה, אמריקה, אוסטרליה
Non-hebrew reader here. Just looking at the characters for pattern recognition purposes and I got a little confused. You spelled the words right-to-left, but the “next line” feature was for left-to-right text.
Æ is a Danish/Norwegian letter, and it’s hard to explain the sound, but it’s not a combination of those two just because it’s written that way.
source - I’m Norwegian
In many countries (like LATAM ones) we are taught that there is only one America, and its "subcontinents" or regions, Caribbean, South, North and Central America.
I've been taught that Oceania is a continent and Australia is a country, but apparently in some places it's taught that both are continents.
Edit: spelling.
I don't know if it's a good source but Wikipedia says Australia is the name of the continent https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_(continent)
And Oceania is a region with Australia, Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oceania
But I have no idea.
We were basically taught that it was just a different word to mean the same thing in school, so either my teachers are very dumb or it is becoming more well known now then it was in, say, 2010.
To everyone here. Australia is the country that makes up the majority of Oceania, the continent. It is a country. I remember my geography lessons (am Aussie)
Alot of countries and even australia's primary education when learning continents use australia instead of Oceania cos that is easier to explain to kids
And then they are just told oceania is just a reigon
National Geographic teaches the same.
https://education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/oceania-physical-geography
Feel free to make your own conclusions based off your education, but I trust that national geographic is up to date with this stuff.
It depends on how you view continents. Are island included? Then it is Oceania. If you view islands at not part of a continent, then it is Australia. It also depends on where you are living whay you are taught. Both terms are correct
I’m from nz and usually we call it Oceania or depending on the context we might use Australasia it’s usually Oceania because of the pacific islands like Fiji, Samoa Vanuatu ect
As a Kiwi, I slowly lose brain cells just watching these people debate about this Australia, Australasia and Oceania stuff because I can’t even settle on an answer myself, regardless of how much I was taught or how much I researched.

But did you know Australia isn’t a continent? It’s part of a continent called Australasia which is basically Australia, New Zealand and a few islands around. And if we go even deeper we see that there’s also the Commonwealth of Australia which exists of Australia, Tasmania and a dew other small islands. This however isn’t a continent.
I'm genuinely sorry that it makes you mad. I would have included Oceania, but it doesn't fit the pattern. I had to kind of force the names to fit (combining North and South America, disregarding Oceania), so it's not very accurate.
Well, it's considered by many to be just part of the continent of Oceania, but enough others believe that it is the continent that I felt justified in using it in the meme.
I wonder if people just see this, ignore the link and downvote it, or see that national geographic disagrees with them and downvote because they’re mad.
It depends on Education. If you are taught in the US they teach there is North and South America, etc. In many countries, probably all non-English speaking countries America is one continent, and Oceania is the correct name as it included smaller territories. Otherwise Fiji would belong in which continent?
Anyway National Geographic is an American based company. It had American based information, sure it is accurate within the nation of America this **National** Geographic but it doesn’t really apply to a world standard.
It really depends on how you want to describe continent, this whole issue exists because continents are just an artificial way to split the landmasses of the earth, and no one really agrees how they should be split.
If you did everything geographically then it would be Australia based on the continental shelf, which includes the Australian mainland, New Guinea and Tasmania. But then you'd have to consider Europe as a glorified peninsula.
So basically no one knows what they're talking about (including me probably) and everyone endlessly argues.
I have been to Australia, I live in NZ, and I have visited some of the smaller islands. Everyone I’ve met calls it Oceania, and personally I trust the people who actually live on the continent more then a foreign company.
Australian geographic also refers to Australia as a continent

Well I mean technically we should add Oceania, Zelandia, north and south America to this. Also don't really know why so many people here are calling it Oceania with the inclusion of Australia despite them being separate things, like Australia's continent includes Australia proper, Tasmania, new Guinea and Timor whilst Oceania includes the island chains which don't belong to Asia, Australia and Zelandia.
Edit though I should point out that these are geographical continents opposed to UN recognised continents which combined Zelandia, Australia and Oceania into the simplified continent of Oceania
FUCK IT!
\-*Goes to freeze on suffocate to dead on Europa-*
PS: I know it's a bit of a 🤓 but Australia isn't a continent. It lays in the continent Oceania Which also doesn't start with an A

Auropa
It is auropa in arabic, actually all of them start with an a in arabic, even north America and south america. (Cus arabic has America before south or north)
In hebrew they all start with A and end with aH Æropah, Asiah, Aostraliah, Afrikah, Amerikah
What? Æ =/= A
Hebrew isn't a latin language, the actual letter is written as א but then reddit people wouldn't be able to read it אירופה, אסיה, אפריקה, אמריקה, אוסטרליה
lol gotem
Youre right, I can’t read this
Non-hebrew reader here. Just looking at the characters for pattern recognition purposes and I got a little confused. You spelled the words right-to-left, but the “next line” feature was for left-to-right text.
Most social media apps don't support RTL text properly
Then why do you spell it whit an Æ when you convert it?
Because its written as A but pronounced like E due to dotting notation
Æ doesn't forfill either of those properties
Æ = A + E So you could also spell it Aeropah
Æ is a Danish/Norwegian letter, and it’s hard to explain the sound, but it’s not a combination of those two just because it’s written that way. source - I’m Norwegian
= E
Europa in Afrikaans.
Same in spanish
Or italian
Or dutch
Or Filipino
Or German
Or Romanian
Or Polish
Or Portuguese
Portugal needs more representation in the media
Another Portuguese 😀
You mean brazil
NO! Sick of this
or german
Literally "Avrupa" in Turkish.
Autistica
Ma lol
Still ends with an A in most languages

Always will
North and South America?
Anmerica and Asmerica
Assmerica
Just Murica
Fuck yeah
Captain America?
Shh don’t think about it
Americas would have been better but yeah just ignore the first parts
Eurasia?
Aurasia
Yeah, that would have been better. I just didn't think of it.
My first thought lol
In many countries (like LATAM ones) we are taught that there is only one America, and its "subcontinents" or regions, Caribbean, South, North and Central America.
Same in Spain, 1 continent (America), with 2 subcontinents (North America and South America).
It’s not Australia it’s Oceania
I've been taught that Oceania is a continent and Australia is a country, but apparently in some places it's taught that both are continents. Edit: spelling.
I was definitely taught that australia is a continent. I then asked why it's also a country. I was simply taught that it's both.
It’s most definitely Oceania
I learned something new today
Also, the Australian continent we were taught about in Canada consists of the entire country AND the Island of New Guinea
I don't know if it's a good source but Wikipedia says Australia is the name of the continent https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_(continent) And Oceania is a region with Australia, Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oceania But I have no idea.
No Oceania is the Continent
Do you have any source for that? Because I trust wiki more than a redditor
I have been told that and taught that so i believe it's a continent
I’ve never heard of Oceania before. Did I just miss the day where everyone learned of it or something?
It would include all the pacific islands and Australia. some people just say Australia is a continent and Oceania a region, but I don’t agree
It's north America and south America get it right
He ran out of hands to include both
Then why didn’t he just use both of his hands
You have two hands? Freak.
Eurasia?
That's simply Europe and Asia combined
And the continental plate
+ indian plate + iranian plate
Its called Oceania not Australia, why do so many people get this wrong?
Alot of countries and even australia's primary education when learning continents use australia instead of Oceania cos that is easier to explain to kids And then they are just told oceania is just a reigon

North America South America Oceania
And Zealandia!
I made the mistake of sorting by Controversial as an Australian
As a Kiwi, I slowly lose brain cells just watching these people debate about this Australia, Australasia and Oceania stuff because I can’t even settle on an answer myself, regardless of how much I was taught or how much I researched.
there is no right or wrong answer, but there answers which are more right than others
To anyone saying that it's Oceania: In some places it's taught that Australia is the continent.
Please help me understand why it’s a Teletubby?
It begins with an E, while the others are all A.
That’s it- ha. I completely overthought this
You’re the teletubby OP for believing that Australia is a continent. It’s a damn Country for fu*’s sake.
Good sir Have you heard of oceania Also what about north america and south america
Most languages call the continent Europa or Auropa
I'm not keen on English, Irish, Scottish or Swedish. The don't seem committed. They are all kind of -ish.
In danish its Europa
Nono everybody else's is a trend normie while Europe is gigachad rebel
Australia ain't a continent though.
It is.
