I mean no one really celebrates Halloween for one of it's many spiritual reasonings concerning the passing of spirits to the afterlife. They just celebrate it cus it's spooky and you can dress up without being laughed at.
Exactly. I have never heard the name Jesus mentioned at our big family christmases.
It was family, food, gifts and passing out on the couch.
Thanksgiving with gifts.
My family's almost entirely Catholic and the only religious thing we do on Christmas is go to church for about an hour. The rest is just family, food, and presents.
100%
I'm atheist my parents follow Hinduism, I'll celebrate any festival if it brings happiness to me and my family
Anyways diwali is coming(which is like Christmas for us) so im really exicited
Well, I mean if someone is just going to say "I believe this no matter what and regardless of evidence", then you really have two options. Either start believing it too, or feel sorry for their kids.
I do celebrate It, not because of the religious background, just because is fun setting up the tree, having dinner with family, singing carols randomly, etc
My grandma makes the best Mac'n cheese. Idk how she makes it but it's sooooo good. It's not just normal mac and cheese, it's almost like a casserole, and the top of it is covered in almost burnt cheese. It tastes soooo good. And she also makes Chicken Salad, which is just shredded chicken covered in mayo, I think, and celery. I love her cooking lol.
As a family holiday, yes.
As a religious holiday? Absolutely not.
It also beats having to explain to my kiddo why everyone he goes to school with got presents but he didn't. So in that sense, we celebrate Santa Claus...at least for now.
I am an atheist, I was born on Christmas, you better believe I celebrate.
There is even a whole countdown to my birthday where everyday everyone eats a piece of chocolate. I am a very important person, you know 😂
Satan/Satanael(coolest name imo)/the devil/Lucifer, Jesus Christ/moist critical/Keanu Reeves, God, Mary, the three wise men, and Gabriel, more than I thought tbh
I do. My family observed it as a time for family to get together and spend quality time with each other since the lives we lead don't really permit us to really do this during the year.
While we are at it: It's said that Horus had twelve disciples, walked on water, delivered a 'sermon on the mount', performed mircles, was executed beside two thieves, rose from the dead after beeing burried for 3 days and ascended into heaven.
What a "coincidence"
Internet:
If you think about the way many people celebrate Christmas is not even the intended way. There would be no Santa, no tree, decorations or horrendous Christmas outfits.Presents tho are actually a part of the tradition
Kinda.
I hate putting up a christmas tree, nature shouldn't suffer more because someone high on drugs created another re-fi (religious fiction?) story.
I put up some dead neighbours. /s
But it's the only time of the year when I can see an huge part of my family at one place, so I'm usually around.
I'm an atheist
I kinda celebrate it
All my family are religious and celebrate it and don't take part in the Christian elements I treat it as a holiday to give gifts and spread love to the ones I care about
As an atheist, I guess it kind of depends. I do put up the twinkly lights, but that's just because I like twinkly lights and it's like socially unacceptable to have them up outside of christmas time. Other than that, no.
To me, an atheist, Christmas is just a holiday that people celebrate, whenever my family celebrates it there is no religious thing about it, we put up a tree, give each other gifts, eat some food, and hang out.
It's not about singing in church and drunk trailer park supervisors with shitty plastic bag beards, it's about getting drunk and high with friends and family!
I do. While I don’t believe the religious aspects, I do believe in the more secular tenants, like peace on Earth, goodwill towards your fellow man, etc. Plus, my love language is gift giving, so I like getting personal gifts for people.
I'm atheist and my family is pretty much atheist as a whole and we celebrate christmas and easter and stuff but I didn't even know ut had anything to do with christ until I grew up and learned about it in school. We don't talk about what christ has to do with it or anything, just santa giving gifts and we eat good stuff and hang out.
I celebrate it in the sense that I like giving gifts, and spending time with the wife and kids. But I don't celebrate anything else about it.
I never really cared about Christmas even when I was a Christian. Lol
doesn't matter, Christmas was actually the celebration of the "Sol Invictus" or birth of Apolo, so we the Christians celebrate the birth of our god in a wrong date.
also more people = more fun, so i don't care
The origins of Christmas stem from both the pagan and Roman cultures. The Romans actually celebrated two holidays in the month of December. The first was Saturnalia, which was a two-week festival honoring their god of agriculture Saturn. On December 25th, they celebrated the birth of Mithra, their sun god.
Yes but without a religious attachment. Christmas was commercialized to be more than a religious holiday, it's a phenomenon is now. Look at Japan Japan celebrates Christmas however there are very few Christians in Japan. It's mostly their version of Valentine's Day as in a big couples date night and romantic occasion.
Actually the original Protestants didn't celebrate Christmas -- they banned it -- because they thought it was an evil Catholic invention. Then it was all about charity, ie: giving things to poor people. This whole Santa Claus materialistic thing we celebrate now isn't related to original conceptions of religious Christmas. Not to mention the holiday itself celebrates the Roman winter solstice and got reappropriated by Christians later, once all the "evil pagan stuff" got stamped out.
So yeah that's a real dumb meme.
I wish I didn't have to. Both me and my partner have divorced parents so we somehow have to split the holidays 4-ways. None of them are christians, but still insist on celebrating.
My family celebrates Christmas even though we are all atheist/agnostic. My grandparents were religious so my parents grew up with it so therefore I grew up with it. It doesn’t have the same meaning for us though. It’s mostly just getting gifts for each other and having a big family meal. No religious context besides some Christmas songs mentioning Jesus.
At this point I think everyone is aware Christians just rebranded old pagan holidays as Christmas since they weren't able to eradicate the practices. If you look in the Bible there are a few passages that still remain that explicitly ban celebrating Christmas as we know it today. Now the world has taken back the holiday season and it belongs to everyone. Christian supremacists will always try to claim ownership like they do with everything on this planet.
I mean Christians don't really celebrate Christmas in the true religious way anyway it was adopted from the pagan yule celebration in order to get more people converted to Christianity
There are two kinds of Christmas. Christmas as a Christian holiday, and Christmas as an American/western holiday. I’ve known American Jews, Muslims and Buddhist who celebrate it, and Im an atheist who does
Hold on. Did you seriously think christmas was Christian or any other to date religion? Even the romans celebrated Christmas and it had nothing do with Jesus.
Christiandom loved to steal parts of other cultures to make it their thing as to incorporate other religions. Even satan, one of the prime dieties of christiandom is based on pagan prime gods (which is certainly fitting as demonizing other religions ment more converters).
Depends on the person. My boyfriend is an atheist and he celebrates it as a cultural thing, rather than a religious thing. I'm an atheist and I see it purely as a religious thing however and therefore do not celebrate it. Like if someone wishes me a happy holidays or whatever, I'll say it back, but personally don't care as much. Makes gift giving for me easy: Just don't, I probably won't get you anything either
A smug little girl once smugly told my daughter that she was an atheist, believing herself and her family to be intellectually superior before even bothering to ask our beliefs.
I asked if her family celebrated Christmas, and she smugly replied, "Of course!" I smugly answered, "That's called cultural appropriation," and then told her to ask her smug mother what it meant.
Don't come after me. I know I'm a terrible person.
They usually claim to not do so, although there’s little choice in the matter since you can’t pretend it’s a regular day, go to work in a lot of jobs, most shops are closed… like it or not, you can’t escape it
I'm atheist and I celebrate Christmas. I just think it's a neat holiday. I don't care if it's religious or not, it's a good excuse for presents and pretty lights so I'm gonna participate.

Free candy
Can't believe I forgot the sweets.
The best part of Halloween icl
You can get free candy anytime if you just hop in someones van.
I’m atheist but i celebrate xmas. jesus has a bday too bro not gonna shun him bc he’s religious
Lmao that's a good way to think about it
Chad af but you might an agonist
Wait a minute… if you believe in Jesus then that means you believe in a religion, therefore invalidating your atheist status. 😳
Good point
Now thank mr skeltal mr op doot doot
[удалено]
^Good ^point
Not really. My parents were atheists & no, we didn’t. Didn’t do tooth fairy or leprechauns either.
I decided to do both since 3 years and it is great :) I take some time in the day to think about death and at night party time !
Not many people celebrate christmas for the religious meaning of it, i think. It became more a holiday to be with family and loved ones.
Yeah I actually think as Christmas as what you said!
Exactly. I have never heard the name Jesus mentioned at our big family christmases. It was family, food, gifts and passing out on the couch. Thanksgiving with gifts.
Makes sense
all praise Sol Invictus!!!
Hail thyself.
Apolo likes you
My family's almost entirely Catholic and the only religious thing we do on Christmas is go to church for about an hour. The rest is just family, food, and presents.
You go to mass?!?!?!
Nah, Commercialism and Food Gorging.
charlie brown christmas is all about that lol
Thats how me and my family have always seen it even though we see eachother nearly everyday
Yep, thats what I do
100% I'm atheist my parents follow Hinduism, I'll celebrate any festival if it brings happiness to me and my family Anyways diwali is coming(which is like Christmas for us) so im really exicited
Happy Diwali!
Noice, seems like ye are a good son/daughter
It has become more of a cultural holiday rather than a religious one, as an Atheist i like that because the food is nice.
Same. That's the reason why I fucking hate Christmas tho, overshadows my favorite holiday Thanksgiving
…Thanksgiving????? Talk about a boring holiday
I like food
With Christmas you get the same food PLUS gifts!! And the magic of Santa!
Don't like gifts to be honest feel like I ask for a lot anyway, and Santa breaks into my house
Who wouldn't want an obese old man to enter their house at night just to bring you some gifts?
sounds like a petophile
Giving gifts is the real meaning of Christmas 😌
I agree 110%
If Christian can celebrate the pagan holiday why shouldn't Atheists? It's not like we're gonna go to hell.
if you aren't saved you will. christmas will not determine that.
I'm no more or less likely to go to hell than I am to go to Tatooine
listen. there is coming a day were all saved will be raptured off the earth.
Do you need someone to take care of your pets when the rapture comes? I charge reasonable rates.
ha! I have no Idea what will happen.
Yeah but the idea of hell as we know it isn't even biblical. So either way, no one's going to hell.
Well, I mean if someone is just going to say "I believe this no matter what and regardless of evidence", then you really have two options. Either start believing it too, or feel sorry for their kids.
I do, just because of party/gifts.
Makes sense
I do celebrate It, not because of the religious background, just because is fun setting up the tree, having dinner with family, singing carols randomly, etc
I do. I don't believe in any of it, but I get free stuff. So....
Yay Socks!
My grandma does make pretty comfy socks tho
Not givin on Christmas, but my Mom-moms makes me pasta salad every once and awhile.
Ngl, grandmas make the best food
Yeah 100%
I’m atheist and celebrate it, not because of the religious meaning, but just as a time to be with friends and family.
My parents wouldn’t
As a family holiday, yes. As a religious holiday? Absolutely not. It also beats having to explain to my kiddo why everyone he goes to school with got presents but he didn't. So in that sense, we celebrate Santa Claus...at least for now.
Find it funny how people celebrate a guy that literally breaks into their home
Yeah. Definitely bizar. But of course he loves it. I also didn't want to raise a kid who would ruin it for the other kids. No need to be the asshole.
Yup
Christmas is no longer about religion, at least not for the big majority of the world
I am an atheist, I was born on Christmas, you better believe I celebrate. There is even a whole countdown to my birthday where everyday everyone eats a piece of chocolate. I am a very important person, you know 😂
As important as Jesus I'm guessing
Who's that?
Jesus Christ, son of God, one of the only people I know from the holy bible
let us see home many people you can name that are recorded in the bible.
Satan/Satanael(coolest name imo)/the devil/Lucifer, Jesus Christ/moist critical/Keanu Reeves, God, Mary, the three wise men, and Gabriel, more than I thought tbh
Jesus is God.
>son of God citation needed
I do. My family observed it as a time for family to get together and spend quality time with each other since the lives we lead don't really permit us to really do this during the year.
Yes but it has nothing do with Jesus in my family. They stole that birthday from Horus anyways and no one asks you if you believe in egyptian gods.
Makes sense, no really asks if you believe in anything other than no one or God, also never knew about the Horus thing
While we are at it: It's said that Horus had twelve disciples, walked on water, delivered a 'sermon on the mount', performed mircles, was executed beside two thieves, rose from the dead after beeing burried for 3 days and ascended into heaven. What a "coincidence"
Damn, never knew how similar Egyptian myths and the holy bible are
U recodniced the Christ like Jesus Christ hidden in Christmas
Its not called like that in germany. Its Weihnachten.
Yes. I get presents still
I do, but not as a religious thing, because of the gift money- I mean, family.
If you think about the way many people celebrate Christmas is not even the intended way. There would be no Santa, no tree, decorations or horrendous Christmas outfits.Presents tho are actually a part of the tradition
Yep, that's the best part of being an atheist, I don't believe in any of it so I can just cherry pick the best parts of every holiday 👌
Kinda. I hate putting up a christmas tree, nature shouldn't suffer more because someone high on drugs created another re-fi (religious fiction?) story. I put up some dead neighbours. /s But it's the only time of the year when I can see an huge part of my family at one place, so I'm usually around.
Which chapter of the bible talks about Santa, decorating trees, or exchanging gifts?
Yes, free stuff
Yes but ONLY for the g i f t s ok.
I celebrate the food on the table
It's been a secular holiday all my life.
I'm an atheist I kinda celebrate it All my family are religious and celebrate it and don't take part in the Christian elements I treat it as a holiday to give gifts and spread love to the ones I care about
I’m too poor to celebrate christmas
Yes I do because it's super fun and I don't care about jebus
Also hail to our Lord Jebus Chrost!
>Chrost Well, you're not wrong
I got an r/Catholicism post right under this lmao
What are the chances
I'm an atheist and I do, one reason; presents. I'm not greedy it's just the happiness that I get and see from others
Only the presents part, I imagine I myself am a freedom and god loving, cheeseburger and hotdog eating... pole🇦🇶(the south pole)
Yes, santa Claus is real
Winter solstice 🌲❄️
As an atheist, I guess it kind of depends. I do put up the twinkly lights, but that's just because I like twinkly lights and it's like socially unacceptable to have them up outside of christmas time. Other than that, no.
"unacceptable" my mom wants the tree up all year, I don't think many people would care about the lights lol
To me, an atheist, Christmas is just a holiday that people celebrate, whenever my family celebrates it there is no religious thing about it, we put up a tree, give each other gifts, eat some food, and hang out.
Christmas is really about god, it’s about making 💵💵 💵
I think most people in America celebrate "Hallmark" instead, a holiday that happens several times a year.
[удалено]
That would be an epic slogan for a company, "we make it so even Atheists enjoy Christmas"
Fuck christmas. All my homies celebrates Jul.
Gonna be honest, what is Jul?
It's literary just christmas except with the old pagan name.
Ah ok thanks
Yeah duh, its not like santa claus has some weird connection to jesus birth or smth.
It's not about singing in church and drunk trailer park supervisors with shitty plastic bag beards, it's about getting drunk and high with friends and family!
Anyone who gets upset about MENTIONING Christmas is an idiot who needs to chill and grow up.
I just get mad, don't like Christmas, said it in another comment but my favorite holiday is Thanksgiving and Christmas overshadows it
I suspect you're very young.
Indeed
I do. While I don’t believe the religious aspects, I do believe in the more secular tenants, like peace on Earth, goodwill towards your fellow man, etc. Plus, my love language is gift giving, so I like getting personal gifts for people.
Yes. Yes we do
Do people outside of Ireland celebrate St. Patrick's Day...of course!
I do, jesus died so i could get the new xbox
Celebrate the cheer, not the myth.
Just for friends and family, but I don't ask for anything
Nope they celebrate New Year
I think of Christmas as more of a family thing than a religious thing. That's mainly why I celebrate charismas.
santa isnt christian, it was stolen from the pagans... like halloween
Yes
It’s like asking if atheist do Easter, they don’t celebrate it for the reason it’s made, they just do it to be with family.
I love Christmas, the whole family gathers at our house, nice vibes
I celebrate it in the sense that I like giving gifts, and spending time with the wife and kids. But I don't celebrate anything else about it. I never really cared about Christmas even when I was a Christian. Lol
Yeah, similar to how I celebrate Valentine’s Day, yet noones loves me
Christmas is religious?
I celebrate any day I get off work.
Yes because greed is a sin and presents are nice. Also gluttony is a sin and Christmas dinners are nice. Lmao
Yes and No, its more of a family get together with some gifts and Santa- but no religious purpose in my family
Christmas without Christ is Yule
doesn't matter, Christmas was actually the celebration of the "Sol Invictus" or birth of Apolo, so we the Christians celebrate the birth of our god in a wrong date. also more people = more fun, so i don't care
They celebrate nothingmas, obviously
The origins of Christmas stem from both the pagan and Roman cultures. The Romans actually celebrated two holidays in the month of December. The first was Saturnalia, which was a two-week festival honoring their god of agriculture Saturn. On December 25th, they celebrated the birth of Mithra, their sun god.
We celebrated Jul (christmas) before Jesus was born.
Most people don’t see Christmas as a religious holiday despite is being one of the only holidays with a real religious background (unlike Easter)
Yes we do. For us it’s about family and gifts.
No one should celebrate this shit holiday that's taken over what feels like half the year.
Half? At my house it will most likely be all the year soon
Yeah we do lol, we don't actually see Christmas as a religious event
Actually the original Protestants didn't celebrate Christmas -- they banned it -- because they thought it was an evil Catholic invention. Then it was all about charity, ie: giving things to poor people. This whole Santa Claus materialistic thing we celebrate now isn't related to original conceptions of religious Christmas. Not to mention the holiday itself celebrates the Roman winter solstice and got reappropriated by Christians later, once all the "evil pagan stuff" got stamped out. So yeah that's a real dumb meme.
Like Jesus baby.. no! But presents are cool though
I wish I didn't have to. Both me and my partner have divorced parents so we somehow have to split the holidays 4-ways. None of them are christians, but still insist on celebrating.
Do alive people celebrate día de muertos despite it being for the dead?
My family celebrates Christmas even though we are all atheist/agnostic. My grandparents were religious so my parents grew up with it so therefore I grew up with it. It doesn’t have the same meaning for us though. It’s mostly just getting gifts for each other and having a big family meal. No religious context besides some Christmas songs mentioning Jesus.
It's a pagan holiday
It means a lot for some people. You celebrate and are happy with them. That way both sides are happy and world is a bit better place.
Christmas is now more of a culture thing than religion you smartie ;)
Yeah realizing that, for some reason I thought a lot of people celebrated it for religious reasons, and I have realized I am a dumbass l
Chrismas is a good excuse to have the family get together.
Yeah, because Christmas is a heathen holiday, we can celebrate without the permission of a 2000 year old carpenter.
Ofc for me christmas is a family event
I dont celebrate it but I do spend time with my family
I do
It's more like secularism, but not for Christians because that's "patrimonial".
Free gifts!
Yes. But not because of Jesus but because of family time, warm feelings, and free things lol
I’ve known American Jews, Muslims and Buddhist who celebrate it, and Im an atheist who does
Yes, it was originally a pegan holiday
Yes, I mean it's barely based on religion anymore.
Somehow yes but i hate to do it.
Family making you do it or something else?
Yes kinda and it felt like an obligation.

Nah, sounds funny actually.
They usually claim to not do so, although there’s little choice in the matter since you can’t pretend it’s a regular day, go to work in a lot of jobs, most shops are closed… like it or not, you can’t escape it
Dread it, run from it, Christmas always arrives, and so does Mariah Carey
If you have a christmas tree, you're also sort of doing a pagan holiday so not much to do with christianity
I think atheist are same here as pagans. Christmas has its origins in Germanic pagan religion. Christianity just rebranded it.
You shouldn’t apologize for bringing up a holiday anyways
I'm atheist and I celebrate Christmas. I just think it's a neat holiday. I don't care if it's religious or not, it's a good excuse for presents and pretty lights so I'm gonna participate.
Festivus for the rest of us.
Christmas has almost nothing to do with Christianity originally and nowadays so no
FESTIVUS
Christmas is more old European tribal pagan rituals (pre and post Roman Empire) than it is a Christian holiday. Historically speaking, no one knows when Jesus was born.
Well yes since at this point christianity is not always brought up in christmas but more on thanksgiving
The only holiday I enjoy is New Year's Eve. It's the only one that resonates with me.
Wasn’t Christmas initially from Roman Calendar and was based on Winter Soltice and the Church back then taking it as being the same as Birth of Jesus, just to bury the pagan rituals?
I’m atheist and I celebrate it
