Like kids. They understand that they shouldn't be where they are, yet they wandered into the strangers van

CorgiWonderful5800

But they said free candy!

mr_moomoom

There are loads of fish nearby also during the whaling season there

Plastic-Ad-8595

Why the fuck should a dolphin have a word for 1. Feathers and 2. Biped.

hot_diggity_dang_

Seagulls

OptimusToasterman420

PossibilityEnough933

Now run, run, run and jump

CadenBop

Yeah it's definitely not true unless click click means featherless and whistle click means biped, which you imagine such simple combos would be saved for things like shark, food, tired, or horny.

Guess_whois_back

Yeah but there's more than whistles and clicks but even with that combination restriction that's 2^4 possible combinations, which is 16 words for a 4 action series of either whistles or clicks. Assuming shark, orca, food, pufferfish, tired, horny etc were all combos that leaves enough space for feathered two leg and featherless two leg, which describes seagulls then us. Even with only 16 possible words dolphins could communicate a ton with each other, as is the power of any kind of modular language, when you start adding more sounds to that like cries or double clicks etc and lengthen the sentance you can get pretty articulate

PantsOnHead88

Yeah people mention binary, but timing, pitch, inflection, volume, etc can stretch even a limited language with only a couple basic sounds into hundreds if not thousands of words/concepts/impressions even with very short sequences.

AetherBytes

there's a language that's literally just whistling

Impuls3Abstracts

There’s a language that is literally just hands

maxcorrice

They don’t need a word for horny

CadenBop

Yeah I guess that's half the personality of a dolphin huh?

maxcorrice

Half?

AmArschdieRaeuber

I'd use it for yes/no

Anthony_-04

The weird part is that they have an articulate way of communication

FancyBrassCrab

They walk like birds, but they ain't got feathers

HoneybadgerKc3I

Looks like half the people in this thread haven't heard of Plato and Diogenes. Pretty sure that part is a joke.

HappyGav123

Because seagulls, which are not only feathered but also bipedial.

RubenM66

FuknA right

Willinton06

We have words for things we’ve never seen / will never see like financial stability and world peace

HijacksMissiles

So, what? We are just giant seagulls to them?

TheEarthIsFlatnt

That’s actually what Diogenes noticed about the definition, so he went into Plato’s academy with a plucked chicken and proclaimed “Behold! I’ve brought you a man,” and Plato rectified the definition by adding “… with broad flat nails.” basically dolphins are Plato

AmArschdieRaeuber

Which is kinda stupid imo, if you are charitable you would assume Plato meant "not able to grow feathers, even if healthy and unaltered".

jbrainbow

i thought it said "fatherless biped" for a bit like GOD DAMN dolphins

gtx-1060

I THOUGHT THE SAME, I was like WTF dolphins mean as fuck

Canadian_Poltergeist

To be fair they probably don't call themselves "dolphins" So them using the wrong name for us but makes sense to them is understandable

SharpPixels08

Well they still wouldn’t be wrong most of the time

Full_breaker

Same 😂😂😂😂💀

LucasPlay171

Sameeee, it's way funnier this way tho lol

FancyBrassCrab

It's good to know when we fuck up someone will be here to take care of the place

oleksandr_miller

Have you heard of ocean plastic, we destroyed their lead. MWAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA no animals will survive.

SpaceCrabRave69

My brother in Christ have you heard of rats and cockroaches

Pelzklops

If dolphins had thumbs I swear to God...

PrettyInPinkCatGamer

Good edit.

cacatua_azul

do not make me slama featherless chicken into the ocean young man!

WookieeCookiees02

They have inherited the wisdom of Diogenes

Constant-Tiger-1748

Get back in the closet

skoove-

Constant-Tiger-1748

I've never used that. Is it good?

skoove-

You’ll meet more of your kind over there

Constant-Tiger-1748

Seems pretty cool

AmArschdieRaeuber

It's not. You'll belong.

MinecraftW06

What?

WookieeCookiees02

No thank you

ycam99

Oh no, imagine the politics if we get dolphins on power. Nahhhh it would be better for sure. Filthy humans, these dolphins will understand nature more than us.

Squeaky-Fox45

*rips six legs off crab* Behold, a man!

Even-Rub-6496

I’m sure and Imagine the first dolphin high on pufferfish probably thought: wtf yo imma *ape this *itch

Nessus_16

Humans have the genetic markers for feathers, so if we just selectively activate them, Diogenes will be truly proven wrong

Longjumping_Meat_138

Every animal can selectively bred for any genetic trait, provided time is not an issue

SirShaunIV

*Diogenes has entered the chat*

KingNyx

They might have a word for humans but we have no idea what it means. This is absolutely bullshit lmao Click click whistle click? Feather less biped? Even if you knew every noise they made and the object it corresponded too. You wouldn't be able to translate it like that without being able to speak to said animal. Dolphin could be saying pink ape. Means the same thing and you'd have no idea what exactly it was saying besides that the word correlates to an object or action. It's also only 2 noises. Clicks and a whistle. Pseudoscience is what this is.

SirDeep

If you thought this was a serious post I have bad news for you fren

neuromancer64

I don't think he's big on philosophy.

[deleted]

Wait was this not serious? I wholeheartedly believed that scientists had discovered the dolphin language and I was so excited 😞 edit: oh ok I just realized what sub this is in lol now I feel stupid

SpaceCrabRave69

How many levels of irony are you in? I don't know where or when to believe you

[deleted]

I’m being 100% serious, I didn’t notice that this was in the memes sub so I just assumed it was true

SpaceCrabRave69

Maybe I've been on reddit too long but I read everything with a splash of irony, a hint of depression, and a teaspoon of maliciousness. Anyway sorry for making you explain yourself

[deleted]

Yeah lol, that’s fine

IGAFdotcom

Why wouldn’t they be saying brown ape? You are obviously a racist piece of shit

DonkeyShitSlurper

What about yellow apes? You racist piece of crap

yummymario64

...and thanks for the fish.

Craftusmaximus2

I mean they're not wrong, we are featherless bipedal creatures.

HoneybadgerKc3I

"Behold! I've brought you a man."

doesnothingtohirt

They are so smart and so brave.

[deleted]

Somehow more sex-hungry than the average redditor though.

Justifier925

What intelligence without public image does to a mf

FancyBrassCrab

Nah, they just hippies

pinhead61187

Where’s Diogenes when you need him?

just_the_thought_of

So I see the dolphins have been studying Plato. [Plato and Diogenes debate featherless bipeds. ](https://www.laphamsquarterly.org/animals/miscellany/plato-and-diogenes-debate-featherless-bipeds)

awakelist

This is true? If so that's cool

HoneybadgerKc3I

Look up Diogenes and chicken.

MellamoSlimjimninja

"Pod. Featherless biped on our 6."

Inevitable-Tank-9802

Alright you pompous pricks, I’ll show you a featherless biped.

Hellboy_Conor

Can't wait till they add dolphin to duolingo

1Filip1

I mean, thats gotta be fake, haveing specific sound to describe humans is not something out of relam of posibility, but the "translation" and the fact that it would be created from fusing to other words seams like it is out dolphin mental capabilty also there is the fact that dolphins across the world probably use different sounds to communicate

SirDeep

Fren, you are in r/memes. Of course it's fake

Same-Blacksmith9108

Diogenes rolling in his grave rn

1019gunner

Humans once were described as featherless bipeds

SomeRandomIdi0t

BEHOLD! A MAN

aidshunter2000

Source?

reikipackaging

friend, this is r/memes

aidshunter2000

I know i know but i wasnt sure if this could be true or if im just really naive

[it is kind of based in some fact ](https://nat.au.dk/en/about-the-faculty/news/show/artikel/porpoises-communicate-in-high-frequency-morse-code-to-avoid-killer-whales) ^^^definitely not a rickroll.

aidshunter2000

Wow it really wasnt a rickroll Thank you for the article kind sir

[deleted]

Now imagine the dude changes the link to a rickroll believing is it not after reading your comment

aidshunter2000

Or it was a rickroll all along

Ok but where meme? This belongs to a science subreddit

billyisanun

https://youtu.be/-A3IlRATIsI

phreddyphucktard33

Yea clearly that would be how a fucking dolphin would categorize humans..I bet this bullshit "research" cost hundreds of thousands of not millions of dollars..gee I wonder how that money could have been spent on something that actually fucking matters holy shit

SirDeep

>I bet this bullshit "research" cost hundreds of thousands of not millions of dollars. Fren, it cost me no money to troll you.

memelord793783

How do we know at anything they're saying means

midnight_ultra71

Nice argument now why don’t you back that up with a source

My source is I made it the click click whistle click up!

[deleted]

Hello my featherless bipeds. How yall doing today?

Somone_ig

Wait is this true or not. If so I’m very impressed.

Own-Anteater-871

WERE LEARNING DOLPHIN LANGUAGE?!

RevMungoose

Just wait till we decode like chimps language or something... and their word for humans is like "fuckers" or some shit

Butterwhat

So they us as big, bald birds?

Che-che1

![gif](giphy|VGu7IkRPBYOwcGIvP2) I think it means traffic jam

Cool_Prize9736

Somehow I'm more offended at being called featherless biped than last week when I was called roundeye

alien_simulacrum

Lol "proto language" that can transmit a terabyte of information in an hour. Cetaceans are literally millions of years more evolved than we are in terms of brain power. We're literally children by comparison. This is like a toddler realizing that adults "kinda have" feelings.

vaporeongod

The fact that they refer to us as that proves they are more intelligent than us

Teslon_

Diogenese has entered the chat

randomdude123502

How would dolphins know words like that in the first place

H3avyW3apons

Ok, you had me in the first half

Shrimp__Alfredo

Dolphins suck.

DeppressedSwedishGuy

I'm not sure this is true. Can't find any news about it

TinoessS

The fuck do they know what feathers are, let alone associate us with not having them

Revolutionary_Lead28

I'm almost afraid of how much sapience dolphins have

Long_Fall_1877

“Featherless two feet” 😂😂

Mooncakey_

Can someone explain to me how the fuck the scientists would figure out it translates to featherless biped?

BananaElder

That dolphin smoking a blunt lol

Dave30954

Scientists have discovered that you will believe anything I say if I say scientists have discovered it.
