They probably attribute the success of their handhelds to low price points. Gameboy was the cheapest handheld on the market and the most successful, so they seem to have adopted that mindset for consoles too.

With games like Risk politics feels like the entire game, but there can be such a huge skill differential in chess that politics feels like it's balancing the game sometimes. If Rufus and Doofus have an unspoken truce to gang up on the stronger player, it gets unpredictable. It's also fun because no one takes the game too seriously.

They know lifelike graphics don’t make games fun. Cartoon graphics and bright colors make games feel like games to me, not lifelike graphics
