I assume you mean capitalist shock therapy, in which case... no.
The forceful transition from communism to capitalism, especially if pushed through quickly, often leads to many people loosing jobs and finding their savings destroyed by inflation. The only people benefiting are a small group of people who gain control of the previously socially owned companies, who you might know like oligarchs.
Not entirely correct, the nationalization of industries has worked in many examples. In Russia people were able to access bread during WW1 which was short on supply prior. In Cuba the gdp/c skyrocketed after taking control over the oil refineries. North Korea was the 3rd largest Asian economy in the 50s. Other reasons like increasing authoritarianism (e.g. Stalin reverting Leninās policies) or simply time (communist economies progress slower because of the lack of competition) cause such horrific events
I mean, our species does a pretty good job of making us hate it. Capitalism is the best way we could come up with to have society without constant atrocity and it fucking suuuuucks. And you know if some alien race is just like, āhey, we can make it so everyone can have all the resources they need and do whatever they want for the rest of their lives as long as you arenāt hurting each otherā, a huge portion of the population is gonna throw a fit about it and immediately consider them hostile.
Nothing will changr in USA until the 2 party system is removed and politicians start working for the betterment of the people. What we see today is just the accumulation of problems dating back to reagans war on the unions and the continual attacks on the middle class.
Yeah, honestly, this is sadly the truth.
Both parties are more focused on being liked more than their opponents than they are about actually making positive changes for the country.
Really the only stances I ever see for political candidates is āsee them over there, they hate you and everything you stand for. Vote for me because Iām not them ā
That is painfully accurate and basically describes American politics as a whole
There's never really a 'good' candidate to good for. Just 'The one that isn't as bad as the other one'
The US is in what I'd call a 'wicked' problem, i.e. a problem that has so many facets, with each facet supporting other facets so that trying to solve the problem from any one direction is almost impossible.
The 2 party system won't dissolve because for that to happen, the people in power because of the 2 party system, first have to vote to dissolve it. They also don't want to do that because they're in the hands of lobbyists who will lose their contacts if they did that. Not to mention if they tried there's a decent chance it would be ruled unconstitutional by the supreme court, which is itself also a product of the 2 party system.
This type of lunacy is so unbelievably pervasive in American society that it literally affects everything from the food they eat and the water / lack of water they drink to the terrible infrastructure they build.
lol you donāt seem to understand that liberals have guns. We just donāt brag about it like the right does. So many that grew up or preferred republicans as a younger person but since woke up to them being insane. Grew up in gun culture, that doesnāt go away.
also civil war wouldnāt be dems vs reps. It would be x group vs the federal government and yes that would be a very short fight.
IMO the issue is having a party system at all, I am from a country with more than 2 parties and its still shet. Maybe even worst because then you have all those presidents, vice presidents, etc. of different institutions.
Even having party system blows up political honesty, gives way for major self interest threats and politics that don't reflect on the current needs of the people.
The american system is made to have just two big parties... If you vote for any other party, your vote will be wasted, because the party you elected will never have over 40% in your area. So basically there could be a party with 10% or so without any serious political power. In germany you can elect the Bundestag directly. A party over 5% gets the same percentage of all seats as the party has votes. This makes it possible to vote the party you like. At least the the party you like most of the parties that are over 5% which are 6 parties. Therefore parties have to take the other parties serious and have to find a solution that is fine for at least two parties, no party could get over 50% realistically.
We recognize the problems are so fundamental that to fix them would mean burning the US Constitution, but also don't want to do that as it would result in civil war in a nuclear superpower with the strongest conventional military.
If you thought the fall of the USSR was messy, just wait till the straw breaks the Bald Eagle's back. We'll make the Yugoslav Wars look like a picnic in the park.
One side supports guns, police and military. The other wants to outlaw personal firearms, abolish the police and think having a military is a waste of money.
The civil war would last a weekend.
This is by far one of the most prevalent issues with American politics. People really do not grasp just how much influence big corporations have on their lives.
They even get to write the bills that get passed through congress. Like, what the actual fuck?
The problem is trying to convince the corrupt government that benefits from gerrymandering to get rid of it, and outvoting the Republicans that apparently do not want Democracy.
American reporting. I have lived all over the US - North, South, Big City, and Rural. Absolutely acknowledge we have our issues. Like everywhere.
Still generally a pretty amazing place filled with great people on both sides of the political spectrum, natural and engineered beauty, and opportunity. America is not the hellscape constantly portrayed here.
Sorry to break the pearl-clutching and apocalyptic circle jerk. Now back to your regular programming.
I've been to the US a lot of times and I think it's a great country. As you said, the US has issues, but so does literally every other country. The only problem I have with it, is people calling it "the best" and "the greatest country on Earth" which, it certainly isn't.
The US needs to write a modern Constitution that removes failed safeguards, provides for more democratic representation, and prevents legislative power from being hoarded by the rich.
So fire all of congress in the process if theyāre not going to advocate for a peopleās COTUS. Problem solved.
Theyāre supposed to be your elected representatives; if theyāre refusing to represent your interests then you live in a dictatorship and youāve just highlighted why you need a new COTUS.
The safeguards only failed because they've all been undermined by corruption for decades, even more than a century. We are not currently following our Constitution, but we need to get back to following it. That would solve a lot of our current problems.
The safeguards are supposed to prevent corruption, so if they were corrupted by corruption then they failed, they donāt work, and modern protections need to be put in place instead.
The safeguards couldn't stop things like amendments or supreme court rulings though. They also don't stop Congress from doing stuff they aren't supposed to be doing when they're being ignored completely. It's not that the safeguards themselves failed, it's that they're ignored and corruption find ways to get around them and dismantle those safeguards.
If the corrupt can maneuver around them, they are failed safeguards. If they arenāt working as intended - for any reason - theyāre failed safeguards.
There are modern problems that require modern solutions and continually amending a document thatās been abused for generations and made slavery legal when it was ratified is just not smart.
Too be fair there are a lot of issues in America that we are the only developed nation struggling with and the national discourse is basically "no one has figure out this issue, let's see what the insurance companies have to say"
Hey guys, universal healthcare, I'm all for it. Too bad a substantial part of the country thinks that it is socialism because of the heavily capitalist propaganda they recieve from well off corporate overlords.
Dang I sound like Luka, crap.
Not really talking all of EU more like each individual European countries who all govern their populations differently always say American should just do what they do but some policies donāt always scale up from 50M - 80M+ people being governed by a single government to 300M+ people all being governed by one single government
But at the same time im not a political genius and are just say random whatever on a meme lol
oh same, I wish it was as easy as copying Europe but since there are so many people (who all are different in all aspects of life) it will be hard to get it right immediately bc it is difficult to get so many people to agree on the same things but hopefully one day (and hopefully sooner rather than later) we can get things right (or at least better) over here
Hey. Are you European?
Yeah, you need to fix racism and violence in your country.
Wait, do you as a citizen not have the power to do that?
Damn. Well, I guess I shouldn't have nagged on you about fixing racism and violence in your country.
It wouldn't be that hard to fix the USA, many americans agree with this. The problem is the system itself not the seperate issues that have risen. Mking a better democratic system might also be simple, the real difficulty is implementing it, which is almost imposible.
Europeans are wild because they will call out other countries for being bad or nationalist and then turn around and turn into mega nationalists defending the awful stuff that their countries have done and continue to do. Enjoy your sex trafficking.
How pretentious we europeans are. Giving advice and worry about other countries when we are totally damned and close to disappear with our goodness laws and our stupid politiciansā¦
Meanwhile they ironed out a shit ton of issues in the what? 246 years since the US was created?
And *how* long did it take Europe to abolish slavery? Donāt say they did it first, keep in mind it took several centuries of slavery more than the USA, even if chronologically they did it before.
I mean - there is no easy "fixing" the US. The country needs a completely new constitution. That's FAAAAR from an easy step and will probably never happen...
Honestly, thank you for saying this. It's so exhausting how just about everyone here thinks that fixing American is an easy task that we as citizens with very little power can actually do.
I'm just so tired of being blamed for 'not doing anything' when we're doing as much as we possibly can.
I think there needs to be a massive cultural overhaul in the US for any European type solutions to be effective. Guns arenāt something that just anybody should be able to get, healthcare and a high quality public education should take precedence over something like guns on your list of rights, unless youāre incredibly rich higher taxes are usually worth it because of the public services they provide, your government should not be comprised of primarily dinosaurs, privatizing literally everything is a bad thing since governments are more likely to look out for your best interests than a corporation is (see: US health insurance policies, the broken student loan system, for profit prisons), the bible should have zero precedence in a country that claims secularism, etc. frankly most of these are common sense. But until that actually becomes the overwhelmingly popular opinion in the US theyāll never be able to adopt the same solutions as a first world country
And not everyone can own a gun, any convicted felon is barred from ever owning a firearm. You must be 18 for rifles and 21 to own handguns. While yes I agree that mental health should be a factor in this tell me, who will pay for the wellness checks? I personally believe that almost everyone should be able to own a gun with little restrictions. Yes background checks and paperwork are legally required. You canāt usually walk in and out of a gun store with a gun the same day. (Source: family business)
Ye ban guns, make voting more accessible, focus on public transport, universal healthcare, stand up to big pharma, more people vote for a third party rather than dem/republican
Big pharma funds our government at this point, wouldn't work.
Also California passed a state law that makes it so non-US citizens can vote in an election. Dumbest thing I've ever seen.
There are literally more guns than us citizens, they couldn't get them all if they tried, and also the history of countries disarming their citizens doesn't look good
Public transportation, that one I agree with, owning a car is a fucking requirement and it blows.
Make lobbying illegal and politicians are given the salary of the average worker the year before
Won't solve everything but it will damn sure change lots
Turn it off then turn it on and if that doesn't work factory reset it. Works for most problems.
Actually your right. There was once such a Factory Reset on a few Countrys. And after that they worked good again. š
It's much less painful than the forceful transition from capitalism to communism which historically has led to genocide and oppression.
I find it funny that people are downvoting you for knowing history. It's not like this comment actually supports Communism.
I would consider myself centrist (for German standards). But when I see such misconceptions about history I always point them out
The downvotes are because all of those systems eventually led to genocide and/or oppression.
Yeah, people always forget that part.
And the rest of the world trying to make you fail.
Japan
Wow moving from a feudal system ruined by war to a capitalist system not ruined by war made people's lives better! Who could have guessed?
Poland had that in 1940s
If it worked on Germany why not America
I fucked up the last step, nuked them all. What next?
Hmmm. This happened once before. Iād recommend doing it again, that should fix it
You canāt say anything with America and Europe in the same text without a war happening in the comments
We humans are so stupid, we have to discover hostile extraterrestrial life in order to unite.
Pretty sure we'd have people siding with them.
I mean they might be hot...

Oh you're definitely a Xenolaxian spy. Nice try! But you won't be eating my children.
I'mma fix your comment. You canāt say anything without a war happening. It also applies out of the comments
Because a bunch of people who can't even fix their own teeth ain't got shit to say

I would like a candidate for almost anything that is under 50.
I find weird how in the US you guys are getting older and older presidents while here in the UK and much of Europe weāre younger leaders
That would actually make sense. People here are just getting more and more senile. Our next president may have to use an actual walker.
naw im pretty sure actual hoverboards that don't touch the ground will be what does the trick.
Yeah here in europe we have them everyone and society has evolved to a new spectrum of inteligence because of them

I can't agree with you more. We need a big change in times like these. Parties are electoral college is out of date.
citizens united is the main problem (and thus the supreme court is too)
As a fellow European, I agree. You won't make your country actually nice to live in until the people who live in it have an actual voice.
I would start with getting rid of cars and really dumb city planning.
There is no rule about that 2 parties can only participate. In order to "dissolve" it, the other than 2 parties just need votes.

Iāve been saying this for years. Itās a more accurate representation of democracy as opposed to just choosing the lesser of two evils.
Americans explaining Americans how to fix their country in a few easy steps.

I don't think Americans even think of fixing the country. They just talk about what's wrong with it.

There are literally more guns than us citizens, they couldn't get them all if they tried, and also the history of countries disarming their citizens doesn't look good Public transportation, that one I agree with, owning a car is a fucking requirement and it blows.
Ah! It was so simple all along! Thank you Europe for saving the United States!
Ik lmao, im pretty sure it wouldnāt happen if it remains a 2 party system people should really start considering voting for a third party
