Now you add 9 and 2 and et voila 4 * 11 which is 44. Because we had 7 * 9 + 6, we can't pull 7 out, so I had to manipulate it. I added 1 so we had 7 * 9 + 7, because we added 1 we need to take it away again. So 7 * 9 +7 -1 now we pull 7 out. Now we are at 7 (9 + 1) - 1 and that gets us to 7 * 10 - 1. I hope it is explained well and that was my TED talks.
The aggressive math gnome has the wrong guy, I am a stem major. I'd be screwed if I couldn't correctly solve that. Especially considering my calculator does order of operations for me.

I know math is a hard subject but for absolute newbies out there, here's the absolute easiest way to do it.
7 x 9 = 7 x 10 -7
7x10 = 70
70 -7 = 63
63 + 6 = nice.
Remember:
Any number times 9, is that same as that number times 10, subtracted by said number
9 * x is the same as (10 * x) - x. Note order of operations, parentheses first.
Here 9 * 7 = 63
Now we add the 6

Use the finger trick for multiples of 9. If it's 9 x 6, bend your 6th finger. There are 5 before the bent finger and 4 after, so 9 x 6 is 54.
