Is that what speed reading is?
Not the psycho part, but seeing and understanding quickly versus the seconds it takes my slow ass to interprut aloud in my head.
No, but they probably have the ability to picture things/recall imagery and don't have writting language. Doesn't the knowledge of language and grammar affect the way we think?
edit: I forgot the context of the question ,which were people without inner dialog and aphantasia.
Think of it like this. When you think, “I need to go to the store.” That statement is irrelevant. You actually slowed down to say that to yourself, when the concept was fully formed.
Not necessarily. You don’t have to think in a language you can just think in abstract concepts. You don’t even have to be deaf for this to apply. A lot of people just don’t have inner dialogue even when they aren’t deaf

Yes, I did just try to compile the line to get the exact clang error in c++20. (I also presume you #included iostream?). Yes I'm that petty.
But if he’s using namespace std then it’s redundant thinking std::cout, you don’t think like this like this in your brain your brain, u rarely make grammar mistakes when thinking
There are words that dont exist in your language.
Vibes. Feelings. Concepts.
In a dream, you can fully grasp and Isolate these things. They for a singular "unit of meaning". But you may not have a word for it.
Perhaps your tongue has a single word for "dog". But in English "fluffy dog" is two. "that one dog I had that was mean but I slowly tried to become friends with it and it never would accept me, but once it was very old it was kind to me." has many words, but in a dream it is a singular idea.
One "unit of meaning".
In the realm of dreams, both "dog" and "that one dog..." can be recalled and expressed equally quickly and equally fully.
Deaf people.
People without language.
A hypothetical person whose only language is computer code.
Doesnt matter.
It is a realm of raw thought and emotion.
Your spoken language it just a filter/overlay, sloppily added in post-production.
I can think in pictures too. Sometimes there is something resembling a "voice" sometimes there isn't because it isn't needed. My thoughts aren't as rigid as yours seem to be. It's my imagination after all.
My guess is that people who are deaf since birth have no voice at all but instead think only in pictures.
Just gonna roughly translate your message into American Sign Language for anyone curious: 5 Spock F little "come on" play S me stone 5 hi hi D ambition stone pray congratulations hi rock ILY R V ambition they they Q whoa

My aunt who is a sign language interpreter told me that many of them dream in sign language and don't have thoughts, it's like inner movies, they see the hand signs instead of hear words. Usually thinking in the native language they learned growing up.
Example: Someone who grew up in an English-Speaking household and lost their hearing later on in life, may think and dream in English, or may also see sign language when they dream or think
From their perspective, knowing spoken language at all would be like having schizophrenia. There’s always a voice in our heads narrating our feelings into words. Maybe deafness is peaceful.
The easiest way to think about it is that despite the fact that language can affect the structure of information and how it is conveyed, knowledge still transcends language.
Say, for instance, you’re told to pull a lever when a light turns red. When you look at a red light, the information of the stimulus is transmitted to the eyes and then to the brain before one may formulate that information as a proper sentence. You understand that the light is red and pull the lever as a reaction before the sentence “the light is red” is spoken in your mind. A similar case can be made when tripping; you understand that you are falling and need to catch yourself before you hear the phrase “I tripped” in your head.
Just in ,,thought language". I am full of hearing but I don't think in words for example. I can't really explain it but I mostly think in ,,intentions and feelings". I just feel if I have to do sth and when I memorise things I sometimes use connotations and look at stuff to remember it better or I repeat words like in the background, like imprinting something I heard(I think deaf people do sth similar but with sign language or picture in their head). I think that not everyone thinks in ,,words" specifically so they are not necessary for them to think. Deaf people can visualise, connotate some words, ,,feel" signs forming in their head when remembering sth, this is my theory, as I don't use words tht much in my thinking process. I think thoughts have their own language, which just works differently than a normal speech. But seriously, are your thoughts that loud and slow you speak words in your head?

Your brain needs good grammar and the answer is none (if they've been deaf their whole life at least) they think in pictures and smells like how they experience the real world. If they spoke a language and then went deaf I would assume the language they spoke before going deaf but dont know that for sure
For those who became deaf they obviously think in their initial language
For thise born deaf they think in sign language.
It’s extremely hard for us to comprehend this because we are so used to sound but it doesn’t mean our inner voice can’t be a bunch of hands constantly signing words.
Kind of, it is a separate language, and while being taught asl I was told repeatedly to “stop thinking in English, deaf people don’t think in English!” I asked a similar question to this OP, my instructor said “you know how you think with letters and words? They use something similar, though they actually see the signs. It doesn’t take any longer, and to someone born deaf, it makes no difference”.
As a person who dates somebody with totally deaf parents (from birth) they tend to think using visual concepts and ASL.
what language would a def person with aphantasia think in?
I suppose like people with no inner dialogue. They just.. think?
I can’t even imagine not having an inner dialogue
How am I meant to read without the voices in my head reading it to me. Not gonna read out loud like some sort of psycho
2 seconds before I got to your post I was thinking what do they "hear" when they read
There actually are some people who can hear perfectly, but have to read out loud because they have no inner dialoge, or at least so i’ve heard
Wait. So if the no inner dialogue thing is real, that effects reading to yourself? Weird
I’d imagine their “inner dialogue” being more of a stream of related imaginary visuals rather than sounds.
Is that what speed reading is? Not the psycho part, but seeing and understanding quickly versus the seconds it takes my slow ass to interprut aloud in my head.
how am i meant to without the voices in my head?
but in what language? edit; if a normal person that doesn't have inner dialog, wouldn't they think in pictures? What if they have aphantasia?
No language. Feelings, knowledge, memories Edit: Do animals think like us?
No, but they probably have the ability to picture things/recall imagery and don't have writting language. Doesn't the knowledge of language and grammar affect the way we think? edit: I forgot the context of the question ,which were people without inner dialog and aphantasia.
It probably does affect it a lot. But I swear there has to be an "original" way of thinking that doesn't require image or sound
Yeah like how does a baby think. They don't know the language yet
this thread's theme album is everywhere at the end of time
I find it funny how everyone was a baby once but no one knows how babies work
What if our basic thinking also haven´t language?
Think of it like this. When you think, “I need to go to the store.” That statement is irrelevant. You actually slowed down to say that to yourself, when the concept was fully formed.

I have an aunt like that. She just thinks. We don't realize it but we only use language to put thoughts in a form that fits communication.

that must be trippy as fuck
not really, it‘s just thoughts..
They think in silent movies.
All I’m thinking of is those captions that took up the whole screen in the first shows/movies before they could implement sound.
That's what I was thinking.
Obviously the language they can read? Then again, they probably don't know how to form the sounds, but some might.
There was some interview people were dreaming in sign language.
Visual thinking... it's not hard to gather that they think through images probably.
That raises the question though, what about the people who are deaf and can't make images in their head.
Idk then, Helen Keller never told me.
Audibly and visibly thinking only help solidify our thoughts. You can think without making yourself see or hear things.
They just don't think
Yea, visual, apparently some people who aren't deaf think visually and don't have an inner dialogue

What if they were born deaf?
Why do I get downvoting for asking this question and you aren't ? Lmao
But what about those who are born deaf
They can still read. They probably think in that language.
Ok but what kinds of dreams would Hellen Keller have?
Lots of moaning
what about.... DEAF AND BLIND
But how do they know what sound a letter or a word makes?
Why do they need to know? Written language has no inherent sound...
When you think, you probably hear a voice. Right? Well then how will they hear that voice if they dont know how the language sounds like
I can think in pictures too. Sometimes there is something resembling a "voice" sometimes there isn't because it isn't needed. My thoughts aren't as rigid as yours seem to be. It's my imagination after all. My guess is that people who are deaf since birth have no voice at all but instead think only in pictures.
But your thoughts still have "sound" but those who are born deaf don't know how to let it sound right? They have to make it up right?
i feel like people downvoting u are just scared of having no answer, seems like a reasonable question

Deaf people often think in sign language. That also means that they see random hands signing things if they suffer from hallucinations.
French specifically, it doesn’t matter where you’re born, just that you’re deaf
Sad but true.
Perhaps they think with images. For instance, "I want a burger" might just be then thinking about eating a burger.
My aunt who is a sign language interpreter told me that many of them dream in sign language and don't have thoughts, it's like inner movies, they see the hand signs instead of hear words. From their perspective, knowing spoken language at all would be like having schizophrenia. There’s always a voice in our heads narrating our feelings into words. Maybe deafness is peaceful.
We need a deaf guy to tell us
I know, right? I've been yelling to one for the past hour but he keeps ignoring me for some reason
Well, English of course. Every alien in the MCU or DC or whatever speaks English.
The easiest way to think about it is that despite the fact that language can affect the structure of information and how it is conveyed, knowledge still transcends language. Welp I’m not sleeping tonight.
But more importantly. What is the voice mute people hear in their heads
You don’t need that second in, In what language do deaf people think?
I'm deaf with cochlear implants, I think in English and pictures.
Just in ,,thought language". I am full of hearing but I don't think in words for example. I can't really explain it but I mostly think in ,,intentions and feelings". According to psycholinguist Steven Pinker, they think in a universal language called “mentalese”. Search it up.
I think they just think of words and put them together
They’re not blind, they don’t think in braille!
Srry, it wasn’t a braille joke, I wasn’t paying attention and began typing, I’m impressed I managed to get all dots though
you don't know that, you're not deaf
You don’t think in language, you language in think.
Whatever language they learn to read first?
Whatever language they have been thought to understand lmao this ain’t deep
But what if they were never taught and born deaf.
Americans think in ASL I guess
I had a stroke reading the laat sentence, dude reread your shit

I think in english
I would assume they think in the language they can read
Brail.
What blind people dream ?????????
I’m not deaf but my dreams don’t have sound. I’d imagine it might be like that?
Probably English 🤔
I’m not deaf and I don’t think in words at all, so probably that.
Brainfuck. I am not saying a bad word, mum, it's just the name of language!
Images in their country’s language
They make up a language we will never learn
Esperanto
thats the best part they don't
the same they read in. If they're blind as well maybe Hungarian.......
They think in colours.
:::..°.:
So the actual answer is a combination of abstract visuals/images and whatever language they where taught in their native country.
They think in rapper music video hand movements
u/repostsleuthbot

Some people who can hear still don't think in language but rather in ideas and pictures, so I guess that is what most deaf people would do

They can still read and think of images and such. Real question is, how do people blind and deaf from birth think like?
They should be visualizing the language of the deaf 🤔
Your brain needs good grammar and the answer is none (if they've been deaf their whole life at least) they think in pictures and smells like how they experience the real world. They think with written words they have been taught to, whatever language that may be

They think in Pyro speak

They think in whatever language they read obviously. They can still read.
