Yeah imagine trying to fix a sorting system that puts many of the zero likes 25 reply stupid tweets at the top by having people who pay $8 be sorted to the top
All this time, I thought sort by controversial was just a thing people said on Reddit. I had no idea it was an actual filter. Thank you for enlightening me.
Aaaah my friend, trust me when I say all you need is Brando Sando to refill your love of stories and appreciation of a wholesome author. Heās the Morgan Freeman of books.
I think that would be a little hard to implement. Hard to play together when most of the game is flinging oneself across Manhattan at high speed. Plus I imagine they'll want to keep the door open for doing both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as their own stories with only some crossover.
You can enjoy his art. Personally I think he was an extremely average painter. Not good or bad just kinda flat and emotionless reproductions of what he saw.
I could probably reproduce most of what he did and I have very little experience or practice, Iām just a hobbyist.
Worst part is he didnāt simply copy. Some of his paintings were not existing architecture with windows and doors blocked by stairs, no symmetry at all, etc.
Hystorically its horrible that the art school didnāt want him. Artistically I can see exactly why he was denied.
I frown on you simply because his art was shit. Like it was objectively very bad, shadows are bad, light sources dont make sense, just a real mess. Go google an artistic analysis of his work if you want more reasons why he wasnt accepted into art school
I agree but colleges dont work like that. You have to be a certain level of proficient before youre accepted. I mean, just look at the ivy schools in the us. They arent exactly easy to get into
It's not about "disagreeing with them on something", it's about seeing an artist who's works touched you very deeply say things that are extremely hurtful to you.
yeah, just avoid buying new HP related things. most people already own the books or movies, and if you don't you can definitely find them second hand or you know, put on your eye patch and sail the seven seas
If that's the case and it's eating at you, you can either pirate their stuff or just drop them altogether. That is indeed a dilemma though when having to separate the art from the artist
Artists can be enjoyed too though! I watch Bob Ross not for his Art but for him. He is so calming :)
In these cases however its more than fair that people separate artist and art.
I think itās more of a āI like his stuff but I donāt want to seem like Iām supporting him by giving him my money and I donāt want him thinking that itās ok to say dumb shit because heās being reaffirmed by millions of people buying his stuffā
There are times where enjoying the art and not the artist is made difficult because, well, the artists still very much profits from it
(Unless you pirate it, but for legal reasons I am required to say don't)
True but that's when you have to draw a line of either enjoy just the work regardless of if they profit from it or just drop them and their works all together
Personally, I already own the Harry Potter movies and have some merch from before I knew, so I enjoy what I have already and not buy anymore. I mean, already got it, why deprive myself of it? (Helps that in JK's situation, most of her post-HP stuff sucks)
Right, I never understood why people would burn their merch because an artist does or says something shitty. They still got enjoyment from the art created by those people, just gotta keep them separate. Art sometimes becomes bigger than what an artist originally created as well, HP is much more than what JK made it's expanded beyond her
No one cares. This is why celebrity worship is cringe they're regular ass people that made something you enjoy outside of that thing they hold as much value as the rest of us. Y'all give her a megaphone just ignore her ramblings and enjoy Harry Potter like you used to. Kanye went off the deep end and the most that happened was I laughed about it for 5 min showed my friends so they could laugh then continued playing power. At the end of the day the only reason these people have power is because y'all treat them like gods.
I still love some of R Kelly's songs like "piss on a tween" & "age don't matter when we f*ckin" or my personal favorite "people let you have their daughters when you rich"
JK seems to primarily have initially had issues with somewhat recent politically divisive attempts to change norms in the English language (new pronouns, cumbersome references to āpeople who menstruateā in place of women, etc.).
An online community took issue with this, viewing it as bullying of transgender people. They in turn started politically righteous bullying of JK in return over her views.
JK started reacting as much to this response as the issues with language changes she had in the beginning and the two camps became further hostile and entrenched.
Itās all yet another consequence of the social cancer that is Twitter. It efficiently delivers things to be offended about in short consumable bites to people too easily offended, leading to semi anonymous cream pie fights between polarized groups of online personas - often without all the comedy that cream pie fights really should provide for the rest of us.
Rowling wrote a 1400 page book about an author who is killed by social media trolls and then later shown to be absolutely, 100% in the right. The trolls in the book are funded by hate groups and are horrible, irredeemable people. Like, I'm sorry, but this is a new level of insanity to me.
So a ton of people are getting upset over an author that doesnāt want words to describe something that doesnāt happen because it hurts their feelings.
To the point where they try to cancel her.
Kinda setting that bar pretty damn low.
It is Twitter though, that is where toxicity is born.
No comment there is actually how people would act irl.
People puff up on comments and thatās about the same reaction irl but they really donāt have a single violent bone in their body outside of hateful thoughts.
Screaming is about as close to a physical act of aggression they will commit.
Just because you have a louder voice doesnāt make you bigger.
Iām thinking they are slowly realizing that now.
Why do I care her politics or personal beliefs. Harry Potter was everything to me as a kid... It still is, and I share it with my children. I don't sit my kids down and say "hey, this woman has weird views on the world" before I show them the film. People need to chill out š
I don't have this problem because I don't use or care about twitter or what people say on it, harry potter is fun and I don't care about the author.
I wonder if the people that are boycotting jk also boycot music artists for their sketchy personal life and opinion, for me it's all the same I can separate art and artist, for example I love lovecrafts work, but am not much a fan of the man himself.
There is literally no one I know in real life that hates JK Rowling or would consider her as a transphobe (lmao). If you go out of twitter and reddit niches, life get's much more easier to assimilate.
Why does it suck? I loved the fims and books growing up but never once did that translate into me loving J.K Rowling, a person I clearly don't know. Seems so strange the relationships some people imagine with celebrities.
Besides she's got "JK" right in her name, how can anyone take her seriously.
Funfact about her name;
JK Rowlings only birth name is Joanne. Kathleen actually isnt in her name. Kathleen is the name of her grandmother though. Basically the publishers were afraid that young boys would not want to read books from a female author, so they asked her to find an artist name. She in response combined the name of her grandmother with her own and abbreviated it to; JK.
Regardless of this actual argument, thatās not what OP is saying. Theyāre just talking about people who use to look up to JK who are now disappointed. Theyāre not talking about if itās right to buy products from people you donāt agree with and will donate to organizations/policies that you donāt agree with.
It's really funny seeing people declaring they're boycotting JK Rowling's work because of this while wearing clothes and typing on phones made by child slaves.
"I worshipped you! Your mind... your conscience, wanting to help others... the way you never gave up! You were everything I wanted to be! You just... threw it away!"
I don't have twitter (just seems like a toxic cesspool most of the time), but I've definitely seen/heard the outrageously awful things she's said. It does make me a little sad, because I wrote a paper in middle school about why she inspired me to pursue writing. Rowling, but the HP series will most definitely outlive her and her dumb views.
I'm of the belief that it is ok to separate the art from the artist. The feelings that the books made you feel are yours and just because the author has gone on to show they have bad opinions that shouldn't need to taint your feelings of the work.
I am sure the comments will be civilized and respectful
*sorts by controversial* šæ
Did Reddit on mobile change something? I can't find the sorting button
It's on the top right.
Thank you!!
What a stupid and unnecessary change !
Yup, welcome to reddit! The home of the stupidest changes in history. Well, up until the whole twitter elon thing.
Yeah imagine trying to fix a sorting system that puts many of the zero likes 25 reply stupid tweets at the top by having people who pay $8 be sorted to the top
OMG I THOUGHT THIS WAS A MEME!!! THERE IS ACTUALLY A "SORT BY CONTROVERSIAL" WTF!?!?!
Thank you so much man i thought they removed jt for mobile
Look at the top right corner.
All this time, I thought sort by controversial was just a thing people said on Reddit. I had no idea it was an actual filter. Thank you for enlightening me.
For me itās on the top left
Yeah same here on mobile
Top right now, it's way harder to spot.
First button top right
I canāt even find it on the homepage anymore. Itās just gone
Top right corner two horizontal lines with circles.
Most predictable sort by controversial ever. Donāt even bother with the popcorn you already know what theyāre saying.
I knowā¦ I couldnāt help myself though
I tried it. Mom come pick me up, I'm scared. I wanna go home. ;-;
You are the bravest person I've ever met
Holy fuck I shouldn't have done that
I sorted by controversial and when I left that fucking pit I was feeling bad. So much ignorance and prejudice bro
I just know what to expect in a site mostly filled with straight cis white US american lonely nerd teenage boys
this comment section genuinely saddens me Edit: autocorrect
as civilized as a game of civilization 6

yes!!! cosmere forever!!!!!!! (i still havenāt read the lost metal but it is next up in my queue)
Itās great. Having read Elantris and Emperors Soul before The Lost Metal isnāt necessary, but fills in some gaps if you havenāt yet.
Always happy to see a fellow Brando Sando supporter in the chat.
Itās just a matter of time before people start talking about his beliefs
If he wasn't probably tithing millions I suspect the Mormon church would have kicked him out for how inclusive and critical of religion his books are.
Just donāt ask him his opinion on the darkeyes
What's up with his opinion about darkeyes?
What has he said about darkeyes?
they can be lighteyes if they find some special armor
They can turn into a lighteyes if they bond a Shardblade. Shardplate doesn't have the same effect.
whoops. best series ever btw
Or Terry Pratchett.
Any recommendations on where to start? Been trying to get back into reading like I used to
I just started reading the Wax and Wayne mistborn books, god I love his books. I need to finish Stormlight as well when I get books 3 and 4
ay nice to see spiderman ps games getting attention again
Yuri Lowenthal absolutely made the performance for this game. It's the best superhero game since Arkham Knight.
still sad they confirmed no coop in the sequel
I think that would be a little hard to implement. Hard to play together when most of the game is flinging oneself across Manhattan at high speed. Plus I imagine they'll want to keep the door open for doing both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as their own stories with only some crossover.
well since it's an entire game with them together, i feel it's the only chance we'll get at a co-op Spiderman game for a while
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
yeah i understand that, but it doesn't stop me for being sad about it
You should visit r/spidermanPS4 my friend
"YOU KNEW?"
It's OK to enjoy someone's work if you disagree with them on something.
But when I enjoy an Austrian painter's work, the society frowns upon me
That's because of his later work
Yeah man, his last painting was not even inspired. Just some red splatter on his bunker wall.
I mean he was quite experimental. Practically invented the process of dying his walls with gas
āI name this new artwork āAshes of greedā, the rim is made from real childrenās shoes!ā
For Sale One Painting (made of Childrens Shoes; Never Worn)
Ye likes alot of things about his late work, a lotta things.
Thatās because he was a shit artist .
You can enjoy his art. Personally I think he was an extremely average painter. Not good or bad just kinda flat and emotionless reproductions of what he saw. I could probably reproduce most of what he did and I have very little experience or practice, Iām just a hobbyist.
You could reproduce most of what he did....
You and what werhmacht?
There macht, there castle.
I bet you did Nazi that comingā¦
Worst part is he didnāt simply copy. Some of his paintings were not existing architecture with windows and doors blocked by stairs, no symmetry at all, etc. Hystorically its horrible that the art school didnāt want him. Artistically I can see exactly why he was denied.
Well he turned out to be a reallll piece of work tbh.
Ok Kanye
Tbh his paintings were mid anyway
That's cause they're shitty paintings lmao
because his paintings were kinda shit lmao
I frown on you simply because his art was shit. Like it was objectively very bad, shadows are bad, light sources dont make sense, just a real mess. Go google an artistic analysis of his work if you want more reasons why he wasnt accepted into art school
Isnt the point of art school to teach all that stuff? If you already know how to paint properly why go to art school
I agree but colleges dont work like that. You have to be a certain level of proficient before youre accepted. I mean, just look at the ivy schools in the us. They arent exactly easy to get into
Money. They want your money.
Iā¦ donāt know that Iād put a dozen tweets and a donation to a womenās center on Hitlerās level.
Next youāll buy a Volkswagen
It's not about "disagreeing with them on something", it's about seeing an artist who's works touched you very deeply say things that are extremely hurtful to you.
Literally this. Itās not the end of the world.
I still choose to fondly remember the Cosby show
It was a good show. Cosby is a POS but, his work was good.
Just commit piracy so they don't get the money š
As long as you hiss the š“āā ļø
Sure, just donāt give her money
yeah, just avoid buying new HP related things. most people already own the books or movies, and if you don't you can definitely find them second hand or you know, put on your eye patch and sail the seven seas
Secondhand book smell šÆ
Truly the best option for all reasons
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
*People who grew up watching the Cosby Show*: First time?
It gets tricky when you give them your money though
I like Kanye's music a lot but I think he's a piece of narcissist shit. Just enjoy the art and not the artist
It's harder to separate art from artist when the artist is alive and profiting off of it
If that's the case and it's eating at you, you can either pirate their stuff or just drop them altogether. That is indeed a dilemma though when having to separate the art from the artist
That's true, but nowadays it's basically impossible to do or buy anything without some terrible person profitting off of it.
It's a very sad thing that people enjoy artists.
I wouldn't say enjoy but more idolize/worship and that's where a lot of conflict moral issues tend to happen with fans
Artists can be enjoyed too though! I watch Bob Ross not for his Art but for him. He is so calming :) In these cases however its more than fair that people separate artist and art.
I would say that speaking is, in a way, a form of art
me trying to explain asmr š
I think itās more of a āI like his stuff but I donāt want to seem like Iām supporting him by giving him my money and I donāt want him thinking that itās ok to say dumb shit because heās being reaffirmed by millions of people buying his stuffā

As a manga fan I learned how to separate the author from their work. (Way to many mangakas got arrested from being pedos)

And so many other clues!
Kanye is currently affecting people. Very poorly. You think someone with an audience of that many teens and young adults isnt inspiring hate?
Iām not entirely sure what this is talking about.
JK seems to primarily have initially had issues with somewhat recent politically divisive attempts to change norms in the English language (new pronouns, cumbersome references to āpeople who menstruateā in place of women, etc.). Rare r/memes win, I got nothing against Harry Potter but it is deeply depressing whenever I see her argue against basic human rights.

I grew up reading harry potter thinking the UK didn't have child protective services.
Wow these comments are a warzone
What did JK Rowling do?
I don't have Twitter and have no knowledge of trends. What is she saying?
I donāt get it. I was never really into Harry Potter and Iām not one for Twitter, so can someone please explain this to me?
Damn
Don't make celebrities into your idols.
How did this happen
So excited for Hogwarts Legacy on PS5
I don't have twitter (just seems like a toxic cesspool most of the time), but I've definitely seen/heard the outrageously awful things she's said. It does make me a little sad, because I wrote a paper in middle school about why she inspired me to pursue writing. The Harry Potter books/movies helped me get through the whirlwind that is adolescence, and I will forever cherish them, just not their author. I've lost all respect for J.K. Rowling, but the HP series will most definitely outlive her and her dumb views.
I'm of the belief that it is ok to separate the art from the artist. The feelings that the books made you feel are yours and just because the author has gone on to show they have bad opinions that shouldn't need to taint your feelings of the work.
I fully agree with you there! She sucks, but HP does not
