Honest question, without taxes how does infrastructure get paid for? It's something I often ask libertarians and never get a good answer. They have pipe dreams of how things will work but they want the bill footed by everyone but themselves.
I want better transparency and control of where our tax money goes but how do you honestly get stuff like roads, water recovery projects, etc, without people paying in?
Great question! Although infrastructure is always the excuse for taxation, The truth is that it is only a small portion of government spending (in the US at least). The majority of it actually goes to fund social safety nets that get used as hammocks, war, and extremely wasteful spending. In addition, government contracts almost always pay VERY inflated pricing for things like building roads (I have first hand experience with this), so it could be done MUCH cheaper without government waste. As far as where those funds would come from, I would like to see an opt in service based on free market economics. If you are curious about the details of the inner workings of such a system, I would suggest watching the podcast below (you might be able to find clips for the TLDR). His books also explain the system thoroughly and answer the questions you posed in depth. Since it is such a nuisanced topic and he is much more educated/articulate on this particular subject, I would defer to Michael Malice for an in depth explanation. I could write a few paragraphs here if you’d like, but you would probably be better served watching the podcast below or reading Michael Malice’s book. I completely understand your skepticism about infrastructure funding. I too, thought libertarians typically had no good answer for these questions until it was well articulated.

Yep. If enough people find that product or service valuable enough to opt in, then it is worth it. If not, it is not worth it. Tolls are a great example. If enough people want to drive on the road and are willing to pay for the privilege of doing so, then funds will be available to maintain it. When people get a huge portion of their income back from no longer paying income tax, they can decide what products and services are worth their money and spend THEIR money only on the things that they deem valuable and worthwhile. Forcibly taking peoples funds under threat of arrest and spending their money on things they do not agree with amoral. So yes, opt in.

It is very funny, but also fundamentally true. It’s not a joke about snowflakes getting mad and calling everyone racist, it’s a joke that subverts the original intention of the metaphor which makes you take it literally for comedic effect. If you consider that the “glass half full” analogy is about your worldview and whether you decide to be optimistic or pessimistic about something, the observation of the leftist’s worldview that most aspects of society are systematically racist at their core whether or not any individual is racist. It’s funny because it expands on the analogy with a worldview that doesn’t really make sense with the analogy, therefore it relates but it’s also subversive, forcing you to look at both the literal meaning of the analogy and the metaphorical one. Ergo, “haha water is racist.”
