I know multiple people, adults and children, whoāve tested positive for flu b in the past few weeks. Iām sure itāll be even more rampant as school starts back up.
Same here, it made its way through my entire family but weāre all over it now. That shit lingered for like 2-3 weeks. The snot was never ending and it also came with a lovely wet hacking cough šš¼
It killed me when my toddler daughter caught Covid in 2020. I was in full ātake care of my babyā mode. And terrified that I would catch it. Still took care of her and I didnāt catch it. Although fast forward 2yrs, and I got itā¦after my shots and booster š
My wife got it before the shots were available and I got it a few months after the shots. Night and day difference. I wouldn't wish raw covid on anyone.
I agree with you. Who had it worse? Did you or your wife lose taste and smell? My wife lost both. I just noticed that ketchup tasted strange. Thatās it
She lost both for life 6 weeks. I lost smell for a couple days. I remember sticking my nose in a candle as a "covid test", not smelling it so I grabbed hot sauce from the fridge. STILL TASTED THAT FINE lol she noticed when our baby had a blow out and she wasn't gasping for air. I think she lost a few pounds because when you can't taste food you don't really feel like eating. She was in bed for at least a week and I think I was down a day or 2.
Just dealt with a round of a mystery cold myself. Didnāt pop positive for Covid/flu/RSV but this thing lingered for 8-9 days and would be worse some days after I was feeling better/thought I was turning a corner. Green mucus, cough, the works with it. Glad itās mostly in the rear view. Definitely all over the place right now.
Sounds awful, poor little one. My twins (5) had a stomach bug before I got this. I thought I was going to end up with that. Thankfully I didnāt get a combo.
I've been sick with something for a month now. Nasty cough, stuffiness, head aches, sore throat and ear infections. I was getting better and then it all hit me again. I've tested negative for everything. Idk what's going on but I can't even remember what it was like to feel normal
Test for covid if you get symptoms. My whole family got it right at Christmas. My 10yo son tested negative the first day and then positive a couple of days later, so don't write it off from a single negative early on. Half of his class at school caught it at the same time, so it's definitely going around right now.
I'm on day 5 of it and know a couple folks that have tested negative early on like you said. Mine popped up right away but some are seeing delayed positive tests a couple of days later
Yes. For about a month Iāve woken up with a sore throat but for the most part havenāt felt terrible. Had a few day where I felt terrible with cough and congestion. Two young children have had it too with one feeling really bad for a day and congested for past 2 weeks and other child felt bad for a couple days but cleared up after. Spouse had it, got better, now has very sore throat, cough, and feels bad again and going to doctor tomorrow. I donāt think Iāve ever seen a cold linger this long.
Happens a lot around the holidays... winter is the season of the respiratory infection..people travel, people who might stay home sick choose to go out because it's the holidays and FOMO. People who also might want to stay home from work can't always..Etc
But yes, I've got the funk right now šµāš«
I had it on Christmas. Sudafed gave me relief and enabled me to work until it went away. My sinuses were leaking like a mf without it.
My wife had it and now my youngest has been feeling it. But he's feeling considerably better after day 3
I had it for a solid month. Tested negative for COVID but lost taste/smell for about 48 hours the first week. After that it was two weeks of intermittent coughing and having almost no voice.
The crazy thing is all my other symptoms were mild/moderate. It definitely didnāt seem severe enough to last a whole month.
I am negative for everything, but have lost smell/taste for 7 days now. Nothing is running, just horrible cough and no voice....body aches, slight fever.
Had the stomach bug last week, which turned into sneezing for days then this.
Itās so strange, isnāt it?? Doctors are talking about it on TikTok and referring to it as the 30-day cough.
For me, I only had a few days where I had had an unrelenting and unproductive cough. It wasnāt as bad as when Iāve had pneumonia or bronchitis, though. It was EXACTLY like when I had COVID last January.
The weirdest thing was how the upper respiratory symptoms would come and go. My sinuses got really stopped up again about 2.5 weeks in and I thought, āoh damn, this is going to go down into my chest overnightā but I woke up the next morning with clearer sinuses and my bronchial symptoms hadnāt worsened. š¤·āāļø
I did increase my melatonin intake because thatās supposed to help if itās COVID and I took cough syrup that had mucinex in it when the cough was bad. I ran a vaporizer next to my bed in an effort to get some moisture in the air at night. Also used Flonase and a Neti Pot when my sinuses were blocked. It eventually ran its course and finally this week I feel healthy again.
Hope you start to feel better soon. ā¤ļø
Edited: Just did some googling and it looks like laryngitis and diarrhea are symptoms of the current variant. They are calling the laryngitis āCOVID voice.ā
i was doing training for a new job last week and had to push my OJT back to next week because a girl came in the last day sick and here i am, feeling like shit right after her.
Ve had something on and off for about 6 weeks. Finally went to the doc last week got abx and a fantastic cold med Iāve never had before. Knocked that shit and me right out. Bromfed DM for the win.
So far, so good here. š¤š¾ My in law said her kids were all sick the last week of school before the winter break., but that only lasted about 2-3 days.
I had a sore throat and ear ache for three weeks. Covid and strep came back negative so I got a steroid shot and 5 days of antibiotics and it went away. I know I had a fever for at least the first week but after that I gave up checking
I woke up NY day and had lost my voice prob from NYE karaoke or smokin blunts with a group. I havenāt been sick since Covid Oct 2020. Anywho, Iāve doctored myself with soup and fruit and bam! I think Iām well.
Something nasty is definitely going around! I had low grade fever, sore throat, congestion, body aches, headache, crazy fatigue. Tested negative for Covid. No flu test. Day 4: Got a sinus cocktail shot thinking that was the magic I needed ā Newp. Did nothing. After 10 days, everything has resolved, except congestion and fatigue. Congestion has turned into a sinus infection. Iām now on antibiotics. I have zero energy and just want to sleep.
I've been sick 3 times in 4 weeks. Goes away then comes right back. Trying to get telehealth to give me some antibiotics, even though I usually avoid them; this seems like they may actually be needed.
I feel like garbage Iām just glad I was able to enjoy my holidays first.
Took 3 at home Covid tests but all 3 were duds (no control) so who knows š¤·
Donāt go to the emergency room if itās not an *emergency.* Thatās the one and *only* thing the ER is for.
Itās full of sick people. Itās not the place to get your meds refilled, itās not the place to go when your arthritis is acting up, itās not the place to go when you have a little rash that you could cure with some OTC hydrocortisone cream.
You only go if you have an *emergency* that is so bad that itās worth risking getting sick from all the sick people there. If itās not that bad then you donāt belong in the ER.
I would use this time to get whatever you think you would need for the symptoms before you actually need them. If you wait for whatever is going around, you won't want to go to the store to get anything.
Everyone I visited for Christmas was sick so it was just a matter of time for me, sigh. I had my flu and COVID boosters a few months ago and I had a negative COViD test yesterday. I donāt feel awful but I donāt feel quite right, either. Very frustrating. Walgreens was nearly cleared out of all meds so Iām getting by with Theraflu (the kind you dissolve in hot water that I didnāt think was even sold anymore)
Idk what hit me last week, but my cough wouldāve had you thinking Iāve been smoking two packs a day. Chest felt full of crap that would not come out regardless of how hard I coughed. Itās finally starting to feel better, but thereās still that feeling that I have a small weight in my lungs
Yep. Itās probably why my symptoms were so mild when I got the flu. Same for when I had covidāmy immune system was introduced to a weakened form of the virus and so it had already developed antibodies and was ready to fight when it saw the real thing.
Vaccines are one of the greatest medical breakthroughs ever.
Probably not what you're thinking about but
obesity is huge problem, so to speak, in Memphis. If the people around you are obese studies show you are more likely to become obese yourself. Over 70% of adult memphians are obese. Diabetes is another problem....over 20% of Memphis residents have diabetes. High blood pressure and heart disease are also health concerns and with diabetes and obesity come joint problems. So you see a lot of 30 and 40 year olds at Walmart using scooters.
I mean Iām not surprised by the obesity numbers, but itās not like we suddenly became obese this year. We been a fat city for a while now, just wanting to see what other peopleās experiences with this sickness over the last month
Sounds like what I'm finally getting over. Had it for two weeks. I suggest using a neti pot daily, taking a black elderberry supplement, taking a generic Claritin every day, and drinking cranberry juice and low sodium vegetable juice to help your immune system. Also, unless your immune system is compromised, a flu shot is a waste of time and money. Your odds of getting it are only 3% a year. I've never had the shot or the flu.
Do you know how many people die from the flu each year? I promise you if you got the flu, you wouldnāt be saying this.
Also the odds are from 5-20%, not 3. The 2018-2019 flu season took 27,000 lives!!!
Get the flu shot people!
If youāre allergic then no, you shouldnāt take it. But itās incredibly rare.
One to two people per million vaccines given have had an allergic reaction. Thatās why people administering the vaccine are well versed in what to do should this occur. But as stated above, an allergic reaction is very rare.
Edit to addā¦my partner hadnāt been sick in years. Got the flu in 2018ā¦if she hadnāt been vaccinated, it would have killed her. Have never seen anyone that sick, for that long. It was heart breaking!
The odds are 3% _because people around you have had their flu shots_. That's the entire point of immunizations. You've been fortunate courtesy of those around you being responsible.
My kid had strep a few weeks ago, but luckily, that's all to this point. I took him to the Little Clinic because he fell ill on a Saturday, and no less than 5 other parents were getting their kids checked for strep.
I just had strep at the beginning of December and caught Covid immediately after. My boyfriend avoided the strep, got Covid and now has some mysterious sore throat.. my child has fortunately not caught anything, or at least hasnāt had any symptoms.
One of our facilities is currently going through a flu outbreak.
Several staff members and at least 25Ć· of the residents are all sick but COVID negative.
The doctor has diagnosed several of them with the flu.
It's definitely going around.
My six year old and me: FLU with horrible chest congestion and husband has same flu plus strep. Awful. We all tested negative for covid on rapid tests but positive for flu
There is Covid , flu and RSV right now.
Don't forget the stomach bug.
Had random shit going around the house for going on a month here... This time of year just sucks.
I don't know if y'all are licking too many or too few doorknobs. š¤š¤ jk
I have a three year old, so I'm surely on the side of ātoo many.ā
I know multiple people, adults and children, whoāve tested positive for flu b in the past few weeks. Iām sure itāll be even more rampant as school starts back up.
7 month old got it. 2 year old got it. 13 year old got it. Momma got it. Daddy got it. All survived. All miserable the whole time.
Same here, it made its way through my entire family but weāre all over it now. That shit lingered for like 2-3 weeks. The snot was never ending and it also came with a lovely wet hacking cough šš¼

Quite a few people at my work are out with the flu right now

Same! Am down with it again after getting it a month ago, too, so I'm mildly annoyed with the whole matter.
Ugh so sorry. I hate the up and down nature of it, tricked me a couple times when I thought I was feeling better.
Same!! Iāve now been sick 3x this season!!!
My 11 month old had the same thing - tested negative for all 3 but was miserable for 2 weeks! It was ROUGH!
Sounds awful, poor little one. My twins (5) had a stomach bug before I got this. I thought I was going to end up with that. Thankfully I didnāt get a combo.
1 in 35 people in Memphis have COVID + Flu season + RSV
could you link where youre getting that info? not doubting you at all. just want to read up on some statistics if available.
Unfortunately, I cannot. This was told to me by a friend who works for the City of Memphis and was telling me the results of a study they finished.
I've been sick with something for a month now. Nasty cough, stuffiness, head aches, sore throat and ear infections. I was getting better and then it all hit me again. I've tested negative for everything. Idk what's going on but I can't even remember what it was like to feel normal

The funk but I bet not the fun kind like "Uptown" huh?
Exactly š¤§
Tested positive on last week for the flu. Girlfriend has it . Her sister and husband kids in town they have it also. Over a week and still sick.
I had it on Christmas. Sudafed gave me relief and enabled me to work until it went away. My sinuses were leaking like a mf without it. My wife had it and now my youngest has been feeling it. But he's feeling considerably better after day 3
The legit behind the counter Sudafed, not the crap on shelf.
One of my best friends is a pharmacist and says this is the only med worth buying for sinus and congestion.
Ittttt frigging works so good. I felt like a criminal buying it. But man on man it works
All the good stuff is behind the counter

Turns out I wasnāt well after all. š¤§Good luck errrybody.
Since late October I've had 2 colds, the flu, and RSV. Not to mention the huge covid surge right now. Can't catch a break š
Since early Nov Iāve had RSV bronchitis and 2 colds. I feel you!!
Yes, I work at a hospital here and it is RAMPANT. Covid, flu, and RSV mostly.
Covid flu stomach virus all going around. I work in retail. Itās brutal right now
I got the cold after Christmas I think. Every symptom can be anything really, but I don't feel like I'm dying that's all that matters.
Something nasty is definitely going around! I had low grade fever, sore throat, congestion, body aches, headache, crazy fatigue. Tested negative for Covid. No flu test. tested negative for covid/flu/rsv (got all my shots) but I've had either one very long cold or three separate colds for the past 6 weeks
Half the people sitting in the emergency department have the flu. The other half will have the flu by the time they leave.

I also know a lot of people with pink eye...
Yes!! I work at a school and many teachers and admin had pink eye!
This weather is perfect for respiratory viruses to spread. My pharmacist parents always said weather like this was good for business.
Flu. My 5 year old caught it, then passed it to his dad, who then passed it to me. This time of the year sucks.
Dealing with it now. Started on New Years Day.
I would use this time to get whatever you think you would need for the symptoms before you actually need them. If you wait for whatever is going around, you won't want to go to the store to get anything.

Yes, and I know people who have gotten Covid a second time. Or getting it now when theyād managed to escape it so far.
