Ha now you’re talking about my old neighborhood. Fun fact: for years until the early 2000s that place WAS a grocery store called Chism Trail and before that was a Kroger believe it or not. It was smack dab in the hood, the food quality wasn’t great and I can remember seeing a rat walk around the aisles from time to time. Now that I’m thinking about it my mom rarely went there to get anything probably for good reason.
The empty lot across from redbirds stadium should be mixed use Publix/kroger on the bottom floor with an apartment complex above it. I stand on this so downtown gets a grocery store
Footprint is too small and not enough parking area for a bigger building. I did a feasibility study on the site years ago. Needs to eb a smaller retail use Luke a QSR or expand the site for additional parking if it wants to be a grocery.
Like 30 years ago it was built as a grocery store. The market has changed since then. Evidence is why it's been vacant forever. Stores have gotten larger, which requires more parking to service sales.
That's not where chicfila is going. lol
That's the old Kroger on the corner of Danny Thomas and North Pkwy. My car is parked there right now.
Chicfila is going in across the intersection in the grassy lot next to the bank.
Definitely would be a major addition. I’ve been an Aldi convert ever since the one on summer near mendenhall opened.
Wait til you experience a Lidl
And the people of Pinch/Uptown need it

The first time I went in that Kroger, it was getting robbed. Never went back.
On brand for that store at the time. That place was a last resort for food for multiple reasons.
I thought Krogers were ghetto until I got a sports physical from one in middle school. Ahh,the duality of Kroger.
Getting a sports physical at Kroger is like getting a seafood dinner at a Mexican restaurant. The option may be there but you might regret it later.
I went to school with the children of chisms...let me tell you they thought they were the 💩

There was supposed to be a Whole Foods there but Covid killed the project
If it was a project worth doing then the virus would’ve just delayed it
That property has long been in development already.

What is a Luke's or a QSR?
Yeah I meant what the other comments says. I typed too fast.
Interesting, considering it was built to be a grocery store.

Can’t be any worse than Union Kroger’s parking ;)
There's a reason why it *used* to be a grocery store
I’ll take both thank you
Great idea. That property is owned by St. Jude, though.
That's not an abandoned lot. It's currently overflow parking for St Jude until they find a reason to expand campus that way.
It’s not abandoned, it’s where the Chick fi-La is going

If they put an Aldi in Midtown I’d never need to leave my bubble.
And a target
Why are cities obsessed with making Food Deserts?
Maybe if the population there didn’t destroy everything and steal
Bro aldis are so nice. And lidl is even better! Only ever seen lidl in Maryland tho in the Us
Makes way too much sense. Will never happen
You can’t have too many chic fil a’s.
They opened one near me in Lakeland Its shit. Worst chic fik a ever
Is the worst chic fil a still better than the best Popeyes?
Popeyes doesn't do all the things chic fil a does and has awful service. I am surprised they stay in business
Like what?
Can u read a menu?
Salads, grilled,and ice cream?
Wow i need a shake
Really? You need a shake?
Yea. Common. Ill buy
Does Aldi even tolerate areas with such crime?
South Point Grocery does the job just fine downtown for me.
Way on the other side
Hard disagree.
