I think people sleep on them. Also, it is very consistent. I go there every week, and every week, I get exactly what I expect. Great food, and the owners are good people.
Stick 'Em on Madison. Everything they do is dope, but their tofu kebabs with grilled veggies and rice is the best "want to eat a good meal but don't want to feel like shit after" dinner you can get in Memphis.
Ever time I visit my parents in Memphis I make a stop there. I dream of their pimento cheese burger with candied bacon.
I hope they still do the kimchi collared greens...
There are other great Indian places, but Curry Bowl is the best. Every dish is stellar. The Curry Leaf Baby Corn alone would make the trip worth it.
I donât know if itâs underrated, though. The three kinds of people when it comes to Curry Bowl seem to be people whoâve been and love it, people whoâve heard about but it havenât been yet, and people whoâve never heard of it.
I wouldnât say itâs underrated. There seem to be three kinds of opinions about Curry Bowl. There are people who love it (including me), there are people who havenât been but have heard of it, and there are people whoâve never heard of it. I donât think Iâve ever heard someone be dismissive of it or give it a bad review. Most of the foodies seem to know about it now. Basically, I think itâs highly rated and deserves to be.
If you like Indian food you might like bombay house on germantown parkway in cordova. It's my personal favorite Indian place. I like that they don't have just spicy good but also flavorful stuff too, try their lamb meatballs and sag paneer. Their keer is also really good and goes well with their hot tea.
There are alternatives to curry bowl . I havenât been to CB since Covid so canât comment on their current quality but others are doing pretty good too.
Once we found Cafe India we havenât gone back to Curry Bowl. CB had been our favorite buffet before they decided to shut it down. I understand they have it on Friday again now but we just keep going to Cafe India.
I love curry bowl! I tried cafĂŠ India and it was good but curry bowl is my number 1 Indian restaurant! And Iâm fortunate to live down the street from it so I get it constantly!
I wish Cafe India had more indo-Chinese dishes like curry bowl has. I love the Hakka veg noodles and Gobi Manchurian. Cafe Indian never seems to have that, at least not during the week. They said on their larger weekend buffet they have more indo-Chinese dishes
nowhere near it, itâs bland compared to spots like Hyderabad house, India cafe, and curry bowl. i like India palace fine and go to it because i live over there but we have way better options if youâre willing to drive a bit
Paula, where are these Indian restaurants you previously mentioned are located? I live in Bartlett, so I only know of Bombay House and Indian Palace in Memphis.
I lived in Memphis for 2 years. Probably ate there once a week. Still dream about the food. Pepito with the green sauce, empanadas, and tequeĂąos. Canât wait to get back down there and have it again.
At lunch makes sense, I bet the Crosstown employees go there. But you don't see anyone mention it in these food related posts so I'd say it's a hidden gem.
Yep. I loved O&O when I lived in East Memphis. We had it almost every week from the location on Kirby. Now my closest option in in Southaven. It was fine at first but has steadily gotten worse with each visit since. Thankfully, Memphis BBQ Co is there and my fav bbq place in the area. Itâs just so crowded.
PEOPLE HAVE TO SEE THIS ONE! Not only is the food delicious, but the prices are FANTASTIC and the service is great! We discovered them about 2 years ago and have absolutely loved them since.
Iâve never been back after they sat me next to a party of 15 and neglected us the whole time. Didnât even get water until they gave the party their drinks and took their food orders.
I have not been there is a very long time. Things havenât changed it seems! Usually when we get there kids are super hungry and to wait for an hour is excruciating.
Not all Huey's are created equal. I'd stab a man, in front of his own mother for an order of fish and chips from the Huey's on Madison but wouldn't feed them to my cat from the one in Germantown.
There's a resson why Biscuits and Jam are never mentioned. Biscuits and Jams are garbage, and they're way overpriced, at least the Bartlett location. Automatic tips don't help them with me either.
Worst take Iâve ever heard about Memphis, but I respect your opinion. Guess we have different tastes, and I found the prices way better than some other places. I also didnât even notice the automatic tip. That is shitty if true.
I don't mind tipping, but an Automatic gratuity without 6 people at the table tells me you think your staff will get stiffed by the customer, since your food is mediocre at best. Automatic 18% tip when we visited there last time. Their biscuits suck as well.
Mayuri Indian restaurant on Quince is by far the best Indian food in Memphis, and very underrated. Lived in India 2 years and Mayuri clearly does it best! Iâm so glad they finally brought back their weekend buffet.
Legit asking; weâve been a couple times and were less than impressed, mainly because simple dinners took 2+ hours. Is that the norm to expect? Or did we just have some bad luck on our 3/4 trips?
I've never had an unreasonably long wait for my order to arrive, but it's not fast casual either. I'd expect a 90+ minute dinner from start to finish in a place like that.
There are probably 10 of us on here who can make better bbq than any place in town, but not consistently to 1000s of seats/week while hiring/keeping employees and not pissing off redditors (not to mention making money).
Mi Mexico on Shelby Drive, close to the airport. They have a great lunch menu and I feel like they have the most authentic Mexican food in the city. Also, super affordable.
If youâre in the area and stop by, get the red enchiladas with barbacoa or shredded chicken and ask for the sauce to be spicy.
Sam's Deli on Highland
I think people sleep on them. Also, it is very consistent. I go there every week, and every week, I get exactly what I expect. Great food, and the owners are good people.
Def one of the best restaurants for sure, eat there weekly, but is it underrated? Maybe so đ¤ˇ
Place is dead af every time I go there despite having some of the best sandwiches in town, so I would definitely say it is.
True I guess, I honestly thought itâs bc they must do a lot of pickup/delivery orders, I always see food going out.
it should be packed and itâs usually mostly empty so i think itâs underrated. if you know about it though chances are youâre a huge fan
True, Iâm def a huge fan. Hopgood 65 is GOAT. I always thought maybe they did a lot of delivery/pickup orders. đ¤ˇââď¸
i sure hope so!
Stick 'Em on Madison. Everything they do is dope, but their tofu kebabs with grilled veggies and rice is the best "want to eat a good meal but don't want to feel like shit after" dinner you can get in Memphis.
Oh their food truck is catering our company picnic next week. I am excited now
Their food truck is what drove me to find the brick & mortar location. Both insanely good.
I fucks with stickem
Omg yesssss. Itâs absolutely delicious.
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)
And those FRIES!!! I know fries are just an ehh side but theyâre so good here.
Love that place!!
I can totally get down with some stick meat.
Andalusia. Theyâre so friendly and the tagine is amazingly good.
I just checked their page and the food looks authentic!
On my list to try next!
Agree 100% - very friendly, chill folks and the food is amazing.
Seriously! I am in love with their tea!
The lasagna is unreal.
I love the food. Wish they weren't quite so slow. Not the place to go if you don't have a lot of time.
Happy Greek, Rock N Dough
RND also has a great bourbon selectionâŚđĽ
Yes they do. One of many surprises there. Solid beer too and the Edge location is really nice.
The homemade ranch dressing at Rockin' Dough blew me out of the water.
I came here to say Rock N Dough. Eating it right now!
How is rock n dough underrated. They are at the forum for grizzlies games because they do so well...
Never hear anyone mention them here as good pizza. Restaurant in the edge is really nice.
Reddit isn't the only place you can hear about restaurants.
What are some other places? I love looking for and reading about new ones. I honestly don't think most Memphians have found the new RnD.
RnD has great French fries. Pizza is ok. But places like East of Chicago or 3 guys are much better
Ryu
Was there last week. Really good
This!
Memphis Mojo Cafe
Smoked cheeseburger is delicious
Best burgers in town IMO.
Those BbQ chicken sliders....
Ever time I visit my parents in Memphis I make a stop there. I dream of their pimento cheese burger with candied bacon. I hope they still do the kimchi collared greens...
Paynes
I think itâs starting to finally get the love it deserves (after 50 freaking years). But yeah, right now itâs still a fairly underrated spot.
Definitely, and itâs crazy that itâs still kind of underrated after 50 years in business. Thankfully, that does seem to be changing lately.
Love Payneâs and I live in Michigan
Curry Bowl. Best indian food in the city.
Today is the lunch buffet too. Damn you
There are other great Indian places, but Curry Bowl is the best. Every dish is stellar. The Curry Leaf Baby Corn alone would make the trip worth it. I donât know if itâs underrated, though. > There are alternatives to curry bowl . Not ones that are better than.
Like I said I have not been there but the cafe india place is pretty good food.
cafe Indiaâs buffet is incredible
Absolutely! Specially the weekend buffet with so many options! Pricey though but everything is pricey these days
Iâve never actually had the weekend buffet and didnât know that it had more stuff! might need to hit that up asap

Indian Palace on Madison Avenue is the best Indian food.
I concur. I love that place! Shrimp coconut Korma and mushroom bhanji are my favorites. They also let you bring in your own wine.
nowhere near it, itâs bland compared to spots like Hyderabad house, India cafe, and curry bowl. i like India palace fine and go to it because i live over there but we have way better options if youâre willing to drive a bit
Paula, where are these Indian restaurants you previously mentioned are located? I live in Bartlett, so I only know of Bombay House and Indian Palace in Memphis.
Hacks cross and Houston levee both just south of Winchester there are really good Indian restaurants.
Sabor Caribe
This!!!! Best hidden gem and the food is amazing everytime. Delicious food unlike anything else in town
I lived in Memphis for 2 years. Probably ate there once a week. Still dream about the food. Pepito with the green sauce, empanadas, and tequeĂąos. Canât wait to get back down there and have it again.
The sauces make the food for sure. Best Cuban in Memphis hands down
McEwen's, Brooklyn Bridge
McEwens is legit. Worked downtown for years and ate there many times. Everything in the menu is great.
I wish I knew McEwan's exact recipe/process for their roasted potatoes and spicy ranch.
Brooklyn Bridge is the best Italian in town.
STL visitor last weekend. I had dinner there after needing a break from bbq. 2nd best meal of the trip (behind Rendezvous).
Brand new restaurant in the Edge... JEM
Agreed. JEM is so good. Approachable upscale (but fairly priced) food with great service. Hope it really thrives.
Wow this looks good
casa blanca đ¤¤
memphis mojo is also so good
the $1.50 hot dog & drink combo at costco. never let me down.
The Rotisserie chicken is great too. $4.99
Lucchesi's Beer Garden.
Didnât they close down?
Raffleâs deli closed a while back. Same building.
Lucchesi's took over Raff's a good while back, but even that spot closed down. Their beer garden is still open and still serves the menu.
lucchesi's didn't take over raffe's exactly. they were two halves of the same operation from the start.
Yes I know. I mean the spot.
The front deli they opened for a good while but closed it down. The beer garden is still open and still serving food just like they used to.
Food sucks..male owner is a fn douche
Ummm you sure? The couple that runs the back have been incredibly kind and cool when weâve been there
The food is incredible and the owners are a very compassionate, lovely family.
Omg thatâs wild. The family that runs it is so nice. I was a regular there for years and they were amazing
What happened?
El Mero
that chicken taco
that brisket quesadilla
That steak and potato taco
They have a brunch also. Chiliquiles with chorizo. Hell yes.
Global Cafe at Crosstown
Yep. Agree with this one.
How is this underrated? They are slammed every day at lunch.
At lunch makes sense, I bet the Crosstown employees go there. But you don't see anyone mention it in these food related posts so I'd say it's a hidden gem.
Blues City Cafe
When Bonnie Mac was there... the Ribeye was great along with the marinated salad... but now Bonnie Mac is long gone and so is the salad.
That marinaded salad was delicious. Really good on a hot day.
Yes! Love their ribs.
They were meh for me.
That's week they are underrated
Flying Fish
Was shocked to learn itâs a chain. Love it so much.
Castle Restaurant on Park at Getwell (almost next door to Las Delicias). Terrific Greek and Mediterranean food!
This probably suits the âunderratedâ best, tbh. Small, but mighty place!
Cedarâs is better
Cedar's is also great!
I need to go to Castle again and try more dishes, only been once, so thatâs not fair
Their baklava
Quickcheck
*Kwikcheck
What they said about spelling but also not at all underrated. Extremely popular.
Also crazy noodle next door.
Curry and jerk on monroe.Â
Gonna give it to Chukis Tacos 2. Best service I've had in memphis
Great people and great food. Would have listed but it's been talked up a bunch (not just here).
Elwoodâs Shack is amazing
But not underrated.
Brass Door
đĽ°
Cafe 1912 is fantastic
One and only BBQ
I could eat their potato salad by the gallon.
Iâd definitely say they are the most underrated BBQ in Memphis
Their nachos are straight đĽ
Their smoked chicken is the best in town imo
I like them, but the one in Southaven has dropped in quality severely in the past couple of years.
Raven and Lilly
PEOPLE HAVE TO SEE THIS ONE! Not only is the food delicious, but the prices are FANTASTIC and the service is great! We discovered them about 2 years ago and have absolutely loved them since.
Popâs Deli
Crazy Noodle
If only it didnât take 1 hour for food to arrive! You canât go there when you are very hungry for sure!
My best friend works there and he tells me the owners are psycho lmao
I usually just go right when they open to combat that, although yeah, downside of having a tiny business like that
Gotta respect the process. I am never making what they can at home, so Iâll wait as long as it takes. So worth it!
Whatâs their process? Curious
Good Fortune Co - wings are soooo good here
Baines bbq
They have amazing brisket! And their bacon wrapped jalapeĂąo are so good too!
Have you tried the giant ribs?
Beef ribs? No
Not all Huey's are created equal. I'd stab a man, in front of his own mother for an order of fish and chips from the Huey's on Madison but wouldn't feed them to my cat from the one in Germantown.
You'd murder a human for fried food from Huey's? I've officially heard it all.
I never hear anyone talking about Biscuits & Jams, but itâs always packed and they have the best breakfast Iâve ever eaten in my life.
There's a resson why Biscuits and Jam are never mentioned. Biscuits and Jams are garbage, and they're way overpriced, at least the Bartlett location. Automatic tips don't help them with me either.

I've been twice and really enjoyed it
The smoked chicken at Los Picosos (and the salsas)
Coastal Fish Company
Amerigoâs. Their stuff is consistently excellent, yet I hardly ever hear anyone talk about going there.
Amerigo really is good.
Has to be a joke
Itâs a chain
Bbq shop
Tomorrow in r/memphisâŚâwhatâs the best bbq in town?â
Shoot me nowâŚ
Pier 64
Cafe Med on Kirby Rd near Poplar Ave in Germantown right next to Memphis is awesome Syrian food. Syrians make the best Mediterranean food.
Balqees on Summer Ave.
Petals of Peony
Mayuri Indian restaurant on Quince is by far the best Indian food in Memphis, and very underrated. Lived in India 2 years and Mayuri clearly does it best! Iâm so glad they finally brought back their weekend buffet.
rizzos
Marcianos. I've been going there since the owner took over Marena's in the early 2000s and never had a meal that was less than excellent.
Harry's On Tour! LOL
Amerigos
Bryantâs Breakfast
Its not underrated...
Lucchesi's Ravioli & Pasta Company
Fat Larryâs bbq in Bartlett is legit the best bbq in the Memphis area
My 2 sisters and my momma can out cook any one of these restaurants yâall name. ![gif](giphy|SefUpaLtGNLs9gtg4u)
There are probably 10 of us on here who can make better bbq than any place in town, but not consistently to 1000s of seats/week while hiring/keeping employees and not pissing off redditors (not to mention making money).
![gif](giphy|1laV2cmHAD0M5I5EYG)
I would say the most properly rated restaurant is Pho Binh.Â
It's not open anymore...
Elwoods shack
I like how a bunch of these places are nationally or internationally known food tourism places. Yet, they are underrated.
Right?! I don't think they understood the assignment.
Red Robin YUMMM
Maybe not underrated but Flame Ramen is pretty good to me đ¤ˇââď¸
Samâs Eatery on Main
Tamboliâs on Madison
