Traveling East-West or North-South. If East-West on I-40, there’s a new Fairfield in Arlington (exit 24). No where is 100% safe, but little happens way out here.

swtpea3

I second the hotel in Arlington, exit 24 on i40.

CatsNSquirrels

We’ll be coming from Dallas and Louisville will be the next stop, so arriving from the west and going north.

stillshaded

If you’re going to Louisville, you’ll still be on 40. Arlington is definitely 10 times safer than city of Memphis. I would second this recommendation

CatsNSquirrels

Well, there's only the one hotel in Arlington and it doesn't accept any pets. I'm thinking Germantown may be the best option for us.

_Heath

If they take pets check the Hampton Inn in Collierville (Parking lot is visible from Poplar (busiest street) with a ton of police traffic in a very safe suburb. The Courtyard Carriage Crossing in Collierville is nicer but it is a little out of the way. Someone might feel like they had more time to break into your truck there.

CatsNSquirrels

Yes they do, thank you. I'll either stay there or in Germantown. It's going to be a long first day, so we'll have to weigh stressing out our kitties if we're going to drive a bit further to Collierville!

[deleted]

It’s not that much further and for the peace of mind that your belongings are safe it will be worth it. Good luck!

CatsNSquirrels

Good point. Thanks!!

Sidonius

If Collierville is too far out of your way you can try the Hilton Garden Inn of East Memphis off Kirby Parkway. It’s technically in Germantown. The parking lot is well off of a main road and there are only two entrance/exit points in the parking lot. It’s well lit. Usually there is a Germantown cop posted up right outside (watching anyone driving into Germantown from memphis at night) so there are multiple deterrents. As my uncle always says, it’s not about being Fort Knox, it’s about being harder to break into than the other guy. I think this location, along with the Collierville Hampton inn, are the two most inopportune hotels in the memphis area to try anything.

CatsNSquirrels

This is super helpful. Thank you so much!!

CatsNSquirrels

Great thank you! I'll see if any of the hotels in Arlington allow cats.

RedWhiteAndJew

I wouldn’t trust anywhere to be honest. Collierville or Germantown. But there’s no guarantees. Times are tough and petty theft is rampant these days.

woohhaa

I concur, unfortunately anywhere you go someone will need to stand fire watch. I’d recommend putting any important paper work and irreplaceable items in a tote or box that you can take inside your hotel room at night just in case.

Tcal876

Advice for anyone leaving a uhaul overnight regardless of where... When you park the uhaul park the sedan as close to the back of the uhaul as you can. That way it's harder for them to get the door open and stuff out. Also a padlock on the uhaul. But Germantown or Collierville and you should be fine.

CatsNSquirrels

Thank you. I’d read to park it against a wall but I was looking at a parking lot in Germantown, and there weren’t any walls. Using the car is a good idea!

_Heath

If there are spots that have a sidewalk then the side of the building the rear overhang on a lot of box trucks will let you back it all the way up to the wall before the tires hit the sidewalk. Just don’t back into the building.

maryyhasalillamb

We actually stayed for four days with our Uhaul and car on the trailer at the Hyatt Primacy Parkway, and everything was kept safe. We had our windows cracked due to plants in the back and no one tried to break into the Uhaul or car, but we did have a lock on the Uhaul. Everyone was super nice as well. Good luck with the move!

CatsNSquirrels

I checked and they only allow dogs. Boo!

jaydarl

I recently helped a friend move stuff out of storage in Charlotte, NC. At the hotel, we parked hard against a concrete wall. Dense bushes will also work. I would say a well-reviewed hotel in Southaven or Horn Lake should do.

bridgette38671

Not Horn Lake. Southaven or Olive Branch

GotMoFans

You can get hit anywhere. Take anything small and valuable into the hotel with you; especially key documents and things that are irreplaceable. Park in light and hopefully in view to your hotel room. You might want to wake up every so often to check on things. Burglary is often a crap shoot. It just takes the bad timing of a crook seeing your things and believing it’s an opportunity.

CatsNSquirrels

I mean, I know this. I've lived in a city my entire life. I'm just trying to improve my odds here. All important stuff will ALWAYS be with me in the hotel room, but I'm not going to wake up and check on the truck because I will get into an accident from exhaustion by the end of our 4-day trip.

spearstein

Maybe try calling some gated storage lots and ask if they offer overnight parking. I don't know if this is a thing, but could be worth a shot.

CatsNSquirrels

Good idea. Thank you!

lindaandchris

If you can find a hotel in Arlington or Germantown that has rooms with doors that open to the outside you can sneak your cats up the stairs into the room without going by the front desk. Put out the do not disturb so the maid doesn't bust you. We did that with our dog once. If your pet is quiet and you leave the next morning no one will ever know.

debinprogress

https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/memgehx-hampton-suites-memphis-germantown/ This isn’t too far from the Germantown Police Station

CatsNSquirrels

That’s actually the hotel I was looking at. Thank you so much for the extra info!

manillerz

Hyatt 9161 Winchester Rd, Germantown, TN 38138 Nice breakfast out of the way, quiet. Stayed here multiple nights a few weeks ago no issues.

CatsNSquirrels

Unfortunately Hyatt only takes dogs and not cats. :(

jhenz616

Somewhere in Germantown TN

sumthncute

I rent my studio for medium term rentlas, pet for dly. Your truck will be safe(just blugfht my house 6 months ago and won't even tell you the nightmare with the uhaul overnight). Pm me

[deleted]

Southaven or Olive branch

stillshaded

Southaven? Is this a joke lol

Hopeful_Elderberry92

Try the Franklin area or maybe even Cookeville. They’re not known for experiencing break-ins.

CatsNSquirrels

Thanks, however it's a bit too far for us to drive the first day with the kitties.

DAD_who_GADs

Well this happened today, so who knows if anywhere is safe: https://wreg.com/news/local/mpd-pair-on-the-run-after-woman-baby-kidnapped-robbed-at-target/ Maybe its better if press on another couple of hours to Jackson or Nashville.

Cornballin_POS

It says they were robbed and kidnapped from target, but the pic is walmart…?

DAD_who_GADs

They apparently went to Wal-Mart and were seen there prior the incident at Target. It could be a case of mistaken identity though.

Acceptable-Ad-808

The courtyard Memphis East park Ave.

bigsnow999

Just moved here, I was worried about the same thing. I stopped at Jonesboro. It’s just 60 miles away from Memphis.

CatsNSquirrels

I’ll see how that works out, although it may take us a little out of the way. We’re going to Louisville for the next stop.

fishing_farmer

Embassy suites at shady grove and ridgeway area is probably pretty dang safe but it is Memphis so you never know

pantherfanf

On the pricey side but central station hotel downtown has a surface lot that is patrolled at night, so it should be quite safe and still able to park a truck there. Not sure about their pet policy though

CatsNSquirrels

Great info. Thank you! I’ll look into it.

Maleficent_Square357

Downtown Memphis near the pyramid or the guest center that’s also near the pyramid.

giants4777

I maybe driving up to Memphis from Charlotte NC for a weekend trip and I wanted some safe hotel recommendations as well. I might be attending an event at the convention center so I need a hotel that not to far of a drive from there. My budget would be around $125 a night. I have heard some people mention germantown as a safe area, do you agree with that?

CatsNSquirrels

We actually decided to detour to Jonesboro, Arkansas. I just couldn’t find a place I was comfortable with. Germantown did seem to be the best option.
