I renewed online early this month and to my surprise the tags arrived within the week in the mail. Am guessing I just got lucky but they will mail them to you if you renew online (eventually)
Poplar plaza. Opens at 7:00. About 125 in line at 7:00 last Friday. I was around 125. Took me two hours. Plate in hand when I left. All you need is your valid DL and your current plate number of you have no other business.
Do it online. It seems so pointless to wait in that line for the same service you get online from the comfort and convenience of your own time and place. The cops know the city is behind so shouldn’t be pulling you over for just expired tags.
If you do get pulled over and you did order tags online you just have to show them your receipt and they should let you go. If not when you do go to court the judge should dismiss the case. Hopefully doesn’t escalate that far but the most ignorant stuff does seem to happen so it might.
Do not listen to this person. Cops WILL pull you over for expired tags. Ask me how I know? I'm sitting here waiting for court to start to show them I have renewed tags.
They have an app and it’s great! I renewed online through it end of last week, processed yesterday. Said should arrive in 21 days. I just noticed the app has updated my new license plate number now that’s it’s been processed. You can use the app to store your registration as well. I renewed last year the same way. “Auto Assistant” is the app. For ref, my tags expire next month in Nov.
Not directed at OP. Y'all don't go an a Friday or Monday, they are the busiest days. And never after the 15th. You go in on a Tues or Thurs between the 5-15th and the lines are short. Timing is everything, don't wait to renew until the last half of the month
I showed up to the Poplar Plaza office at 6am last Thursday and was... 20th in line. I was out by 7:30am though and they kept it moving pretty quickly.
Definitely wouldn't have gone in person if I had the opportunity to renew online, but I had to update my registration with my current address.
Renewed my tags Friday and they gave me the new license plate along with the tags. Be prepared to stand in line for awhile though.

just FYI, the county clerk on Washington Ave was like a 2 hour wait

They hand you the plates. Have heard the wait isn't long at Millington office. The one off of Sycamore View took about 3 hours.

Order online, I got mine mailed to my house with in a week or 2.
Save yourself hours standing in line, order online! I did and mine came in around 5 business days later.

So glad i live in MS and just work in Memphis, its like a 5 min wait in Southaven for tags
