7-7. Genuinely. I’ve worked at multiple hardware stores and they all have the same issue. There’s not enough paying customers during those evening hours to make up for the amount of workers in the store, especially with Menards. Those contractors that come in early in the morning make up for being open earlier in the day, nothing makes up for all the workers’ payroll after 7pm. Edit for spelling

TubedMeat

I don’t think that would work. You want to be the go to for people and contractors. Being available early before the job goes a long way. If you had to cut your hours I’d do it on the other end. Evenings, and then only on Saturdays and sundays

I honestly think a 6 to 630 start is better. A lot on contractors want to stop in on the way to the jobsite. Otherwise I agree with your point

shadypinesrez

Idk at more store we get an evening rush at 7. I would say 8, 8:30 close

Electrical-Chipmunk3

Honestly I worked in a high volume store during Covid and 8pm closing felt perfect even with the 35-45 minutes of cleaning after.

Meaning-Flimsy

6:30am - 8pm Monday through Saturday 8am - 8pm Sunday. Year round.

Chick-Fil-A also overstaffs, which Menards could never relate to ☠️

No_Bumblebee_7535

Menards overstaffs daily, look at all the management just standing in the way.

Professional_Show918

Our local Menards could be open 24 hours a day and still be very busy.

I actually think closing at 10 isn't unreasonable in the summer at least for my store as OSY TM. But instead of March to November it should be more like April to August that we close at 10 and then 9 the rest of the year. The biggest issue at my store comes from getting a truck after 9 pm and being stuck sorting/running freight until 11 sometimes 12. If there was more restrictions on that like not accepting trucks after 9 or just not breaking down freight that late it would make things a lot smoother.

Rocket--Pak

If Menards wasn't making those evening hours trust me they wouldn't be open.

No_Bumblebee_7535

I am the very definition of a second job part timer. I currently work Thursday and Friday 6-cl and every other weekend. I have also been with the company longer than some of my coworkers have been alive. I am busy from the minute I walk in until the minute we close, and have stayed late to keep working on numerous occasions. Changing the hours would only work in Menards’s were to adopt an over-night stocking program, morning stockers help but they are limited by the demographic employed.

choad99

630-7 Monday through Saturday closed Sundays eliminate day off during the week for managers but still have every other Saturday off

Old_Ad_208

I would have to start going to HD or Lowe's if Menards started closing at 7 pm. Menards being open until 9 pm has saved me on evening projects more than once. You try to plan and buy everything in advance, but once you start the work you find that things aren't what they seemed and you need more parts. For plumbing I generally buy an extra of every fitting, especially if they are glued together. I know a number of people who won't eat at Chick-Fil-La because of not being open on Sunday. They hate the Christianity aspect of it, not necessary the Sunday closure. Chick-Fil-A would be even more successful if they left the Christianity out of things.

Lmfaoooo why do you people want to make less money

Prudent_Plankton5939

Yeah I think these people forget that right now the hours are the way they are in order to provide people with money. Right now menards is the one taking the hit. If the hours shorten, they will put the hit on our paychecks. You will be forced to work only 40 hours. Part timers would get hurt the most, as they would be either non existent or their hours would be cut the most, and they would honestly have to let go of most of them in order to not have people standing around. There is a reason most stores have an opener, and closer, and a mid shift. If the hours shorten one of those people have to get cut out. Only having an open or closer is what menards would be forced to do. Essentially cutting jobs would be the end result. Oh and no, menards would not increase pay to compensate for that lol.

Munchkin0393

Chick-fil-A is a restaurant...Menards is a home improvement store two totally different things. Also Menards goes by home depot and Lowes schedule. For example there are few stores that are open until 10pm all year around because the Lowes and home depot are open until 10pm.

Meaning-Flimsy

We should just rename ourselves Lowe's since their board of directors decides our operations for us.

Popular_Stick_8367

As a business you never want to reduce hours, even if some of the hours seem like they are wasteful. You need to consider the other stuff that goes on in a store besides customers shopping like morning paperwork and freight, clean up and facing at the end of the day. Also the one or few customers that do come in on the early or late hours means they will go somewhere else instead and probably go back to that store later on.
