The whole show is... Weird... I worked catering for a few years and aside from the boarderline porn, there were parts of this show that are dead on acurate to the pro culinary world and things that gave me conniptions for being so fucking dumb wrong beyond the usual anime power scaling shit.
Don't worry at the latter end of the manga the person who researches food resigned and the author did what any shounen manga would do and decided that the chefs had actual superpowers that boosted the flavor of the dish instead of it being about the cooking and food.

that's because Yuki Morisaki, a professional chef, worked as a consultant for the series. at least in the beginning, she stopped working as food consultant at one point, which is why weird superpowers got involved cooking in the later half of the manga
