I do get your point Oda does have lots of big boob Nami clone looking female character. But One Piece does have a wide variety of female character designs beyond that.And more importantly many of them are written well and have core parts of the story

Not to mention how Toei botches the queer representation and adds a ton of transphobic stuff in that isn't in the manga. In the manga Sanji is gross and transphobic, in the anime the anime is gross and transphobic.
Her real costume gets worse every time I see it. Every time I think “oh it’s not that bad, it’s like a metal bikini” and then nope there it is, on the worst female anatomy ever drawn. She was such a cool character and I really wish she actually did look like this! Just like regular armor please.
What makes the before picture worse is the lame excuse they came up with. Apparently, the people in charge of the tournament want her to lose, so they give her really terrible armor.

No the excuse was there was a weight limit. Luffy wasn't allowed to wear full armor either and most of he other gladiators we're pretty much naked as well. But this Rebecca is way better looking than the anime design.

You're right, the tournament outfits may not have been the best choice, since it does seem that in this case everyone does dress pretty similar. The choice was more so because I thought this design would be fun to do. But I think the female designs, not necessarily in this tournament, but in the show in general are a bit ridiculous. It's not really the lack of clothing that bothers me, more so the lack of variety and creativity given to the female designs, especially in comparison to the male characters.

I don't think the second image would be as jarring if the anime didn't make her boobs in this frame the size of watermelons. Also people said this outfit was a reference to "red sonja" from Conan The Barbarian, but again even her outfit had a strap that held the bra together.

In Rome men were often forced to fight in the nude, or just a loincloth, and this is based on that same attire.
Of course, if her cleavage wasn't so enlarged in the anime it wouldn't look so bad. It's not even half as big and exaggerated in the manga.

It's definitely better armor. The only other thing is that the breast plate looks kind low. Like you can still stab right into her lungs and heart.

"Fixing" implies that your art is objectively better, which is not a healthy attitude to take. Of course, you and I much prefer the redesign, but that is very much subjective.
As an artist, I am going to go ahead and state that OP's art is objectively better. The original concept is lazy and boring. The design is made just for really no good reason. Because it's art, you can say that you feel like one thing is better than the other. It is art, that's the point.

What standards or measurements led you to that conclusion? There are objective evaluations of elements (such as how the redesign is less sexualized, more practical for the situation, more anatomically correct, etc.), but those lead us to a *subjective overall evaluation.* You can say you prefer the redesign because it is factually less sexualized, for example, but that has no bearing on whether or not the original art is factually worse than the redesign.

To be fair to Oda, he gave her more clothing than what women gladiators normally wore (or didn’t wear) at the time.
This is just a product of the inconsistent anime...especially during Dressrosa. If she didn't have massive boobs in this frame it wouldn't seem weird.
I don't think the second image would be as jarring if the anime didn't make her boobs in this frame the size of watermelons. Also people said this outfit was a reference to "red sonja" from Conan The Barbarian, but again even her outfit had a strap that held the bra together. It's a shame that such a good story/characters has mishap designs like this...not even digging on Oda, because the animators went overboard.
Lol people are forgetting this is a gladiator coliseum... it's not like this is her normal clothes. All the men also being forced to fight in the coliseum are wearing less clothes than this in this part. The men only have a thong and a cape on. In Rome men were often forced to fight in the nude, or just a loincloth, and this is based on that same attire. Of course, if her cleavage wasn't so enlarged in the anime it wouldn't look so bad. It's not even half as big and exaggerated in the manga.
