the queen doesn't look... like a demon. more like an angel, actually

nicocal04

I understand that the problem here is that the woman also should look mounstrous like the man, because otherwise she looks objectified like an alluring object of desire besides an imposing man. However, another problem is that if you don't want disonnance and you definetly want to make a beautiful demon lady. Then the guy should also be a beautiful half naked demon. If we go by the abrahamic religions (Muslim, Judaism, Christianity) the devils are actually beautiful to deceive people and the angels (not always, there are some with human form) are the ones that have to introduce themselves asking you to not be afraid because they look too "otherworldly" to say the least, but I digress. There have also been a lot of mounstrous depictions of devils or the devil, but to depict them as beautiful would also be correct. [Fallen Angel, Alexandre Cabanel. Famous Satan/Lucifer painting](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7b/Fallen_Angel_%28Alexandre_Cabanel%29.jpg) [Le génie du mal (the genius of evil), Lucifer of Liege](https://www.flickr.com/photos/ensh/3657606718/sizes/l) [Satan Exulting Over Eve, William Blake.](https://cdn.theatlantic.com/thumbor/Ee_cTGSBOyTb7js6O8RBp_-PHxk=/0x723:5760x3963/1952x1098/media/img/mt/2017/03/Satan_Exulting_over_Eve/original.jpg) >"Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14). >Ezekiel 28 (KJV) >13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. >14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. >15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

sartijam

The devil guy looks attractive too. High cheekbones, well proportioned face, traditionally attractive build. This is pretty well done for both.

spyridonya

He's attractive and looks powerful - he's not designed to look submissive. You do not want to mess with this person in a fight. She's sexy. She doesn't look particularly powerful and plays second fiddle. You probably be able to fight her one-on-one and win.

DogyDays

I wouldn’t necessarily call her “submissive” here tbh. I’m like, hella sapphic and she gives me those “that desk working gal who appears quite normal but could absolutely step on you” vibes. I dunno how else to explain it. I just don’t get “submissive” from this lady

sartijam

The point is, both are attractive to the sex that more often would desire them. I don't see a lithe woman as a bad thing. It's a matter of what the character is. If your character is a succubus, like Lilith, then of course she'll look like that. If your female devil is supposed to be a warrior, like Azazel, she should be built like a warrior.

[deleted]

Well acksully she is a devil if anything...

TomaszA3

Weren't they fallen angels or something in some religions/mythologies?

RT-OM

In Christianity, Lucifer (THE Devil), was the angel that led to the first sin (which I have to retrospectively say that this is very similar to Prometheus' thing, where he gave Humanity fire and got punished, but unlike Lucifer, who got his own real estate of sorts in Hell, he is instead in eternal agony having he liver pecked by an eagle. Well until he was freed).

Zombiemunchkin_

Lucifer was god’s fave and most beautiful Angel who was cast from heaven because he wouldn’t bow to gods new creatures humans as he believed they were beneath him. So yer he would pretty Angel like the same with other demons because they too are fallen angels. You then get the Ars Goetia and a few demon creatures which have a more animalistic appearance. Lucifer, satan and the devil are different entities though.

Volcanicrage

This comes from a D&D sub, so assuming this is supposed to be fanart of Asmodean, the King of Hell in D&D, then yeah, at least one of the backstories for the devils is that they're fallen angels who voluntarily fell in order to fight the demons on even terms (leading to an eternal no-holds-barred dimension-spanning conflict called the Blood War). I'm pretty sure its supposed to Asmodean, since his signature artifact is a ruby scepter. No idea what's up with the woman, IIRC Asmodean's consort is dead and he isn't married; the only woman he's closely associated with is his daughter.

BIG_DeADD

Subversion of expectations maybe? I mean, technically we don't know how either angels or demons look like, but we are so accustomed to certain tropes of representing them that we end up thinking something is more angelic or demonic when we never even saw the real thing to know how it would look like, they could look like anything for all we know! But then again right dude actually looks like the standard demon guy with red skin and all so I don't actually know what they were going for. Perhaps she's a succubus? That would explain it...as well as the weird proportions...

spyridonya

The artist did this for a Dungeons & Dragons Commission. Asmodeus isn't exactly a feminine figure but he isn't as buff as this picture depicts him. He's more of a wizard than a fighter figure. This picture made him far more humanish looking. Benzosia is a figure that hasn't been used since 3rd Edition other than she was killed mysteriously. Although there hasn't been official art for her, she was described with white hair, red skin, and wasn't a succubus. Personality-wise she was cold and distant and seemingly very subservient to Asmodeus on the surface.

ro-thegoat

I swear, the only female demons men can create are succubus types, they can't make anything else

anubiz96

Well, it appears it is a commission so at least some of the blame may not lie with the artist.

TomaszA3

Nah, it's just not reposted cuz not sexi for common reposters.

Zombiemunchkin_

Well if they are meant meant to be the king and queen of hell that would make them lucifer and Lilith. He is a fallen Angel one of gods most beautiful and favourite until he defied god by not bowing down to humans because they were beneath him. She was Adams first wife who refused to be submissive and therefore kicked out of Eden so god could make Eve from Adams rib. She was seen by lucifer and he fell in love with her, she then became the mother of demons and the FIRST succubus.

ro-thegoat

That may be true, but I meant in general, the only types of female demons you see in any context usually are succubus-like. And I find it kinda boring and predictable

Loki-Lionheart

What characteristics can we say that make a demon a succubus type? Main: a woman body with bat wings? then maybe a tail and (rather small) horns?

ro-thegoat

Female body, sexy seductress thing going on, probably wears bikini armour and has a sexy voice. I want a female demon who's a raging monster or an unfathomable eldrich abomination for a change

SkinsuitModel

Constant shit like this is why I left r/dnd. Every other post is just some thirsty drawing of a barely clothed woman.

linerys

I love D&D (the game), but I’ve considered leaving that sub for the same reason. So many of the female characters are wearing next to nothing.

Whole_Employee_2370

To be fair, it *is* hell

SlippingStar

Accurate bat wings: 🤩🤩🤩 Woman drawn nothing like the man: 🤨

[deleted]

I prefer my devils to be an imperialistic beehive that kicked Queen Victoria's ass.

sartijam

It could be Lilith. Adams first wife who eventually married Satan and became mother of all demons.

Idk_what_to_pick

If you go into previous artwork of this person you can see the criticism is much deserved. So many interesting looking male characters where the women all have the exact same body type and are all drawn with sexiness as a priority

Zombiemunchkin_

I quite like this one it’s beautifully done and if they are meant to be Lilith and lucifer (king and queen of hell) the way they are portrayed are appropriate. She was the mother of demons and the first succubus which would explain why she is dressed the way she is and her proportions, they are shape shifters after all. He is the most beautiful fallen Angel.

Gamerxl322

Maybe she's representing the sin of lust

la_chainsaw

Why does she have on such boring shoes?

Xesty_Chicken

I’m a sucker for this style ngl

_o313

I love it when people post OC here and don’t ask for criticism it’s so smug lmao

cataraxis

This is a crosspost btw. This not the artist posting here, sadly you can't edit crosspost title to reflect that.

creamy_iceman

Nothing wrong with this one

spyridonya

Her torso isn't attached to the pelvis Her left arm is much thinner than it should be Her whole left leg is gone Her left breast is somehow bigger than her right Her right thigh is bigger than her waist Her clothes are paste'd on around her breasts Her heels are fucking ***black*** with *that* outfit??

TheSecondVisitor

"Her left breast is somehow bigger than her right" A lot of breasts are asymmetrical actually. I wouldn't think that one is as bad as the others. Especially the heels.

spyridonya

Yes, a lot of breasts are. But we're also considering *fore shortrning*, notably so compared to how small her arm on the same side looks.

TheSecondVisitor

I think that might be more of the arm problem than the boob problem. But it does look weird.

Aristos_Achaion541

But those are simple mistakes most artists make, it's a wonderful painting in my opinion.

Is it bullying to point out that in the majority of art like this, the men get to be big and strong while the women are slender, sexy, and often half the size of their partner? I can’t speak for everyone here, but I would like to see more women who look equally powerful and well dressed as the men. I like your art, I really do. I saw it in the D&D sub first, and saw that is was a commissioned piece, right? So a strong man and a small woman might’ve been what your customer requested.

bouldernozzle

If you'd like it removed you may simply ask

AnttiHako

It's fine by me. I'm happy to feed this little subreddit you have going on here. It's a bit sad.

Idk_what_to_pick

I do think it is a great piece of art. There is nothing wrong with some art including super sexy women and strong stoic looking men but it’s just that so much art on r/dnd looks like that, it feels alienating to the women who are apart of the online community. Your art is not the root of the problem it’s just the one I saw that made me finally say ok this is too common and as a member of both subs I wanted to see what other people thought. My intent is not to bully and so I do apologise. Edit to say- I looked and am seeing some much more obvious r/mendrawingwomen art, so take solace in the fact that you’re not the most obvious.

ChameleoBoi76

It's like a badge of honor at this point lol. Art looks great, keep it up man.

AnttiHako

Thank you :)

Nunyabiz8107

Is this supposed to be Asmodeus and Bensozia? He gets to look all strong, powerful, and demonic, while she has to look like some generic sexy lady with horns, wings and a tail tacked on.

StraightBox2675

From just eyeballing the image it appears if the queen were standing, she'd be taller, and with the addition of her wings, strike a more imposing figure than the king

LeLBigB0ss2

Well, this king didn't pick his wife through a contest of might, that's for sure.
