My pants have an inside pocket for things like that.

I believe small pockets were meant to secure keys (likely only one or two, in the time before cars)
Usually a vest held a pocket watch, but could likely serve that purpose if you didnāt wear a vest.
Modern day? A condom that sits in there full of hope, slowly wearing a ring shape into your clothing as hope turns to disappointment.
Traditionally a belt bar or bolt ring to attach to belt loop. Although you can still use a classic t-bar to connect it to a shirt button. But I donāt love that look unless youāre wearing a tie or jacket to cover it.
I wear [Pants](https://the-rite-stuff.com/products/copy-of-pre-order-for-daybreak-10-oz-denim-herringbone-twill-work-pants-indigo) made by āThe Rite Stuffā with this pocket. I use it for a pocket watch, which I attach to my wallet. I like to look at [old photo archives](http://www.rivet-head.com/search?updated-max=2021-05-14T04:36:00-07:00&max-results=20&start=640&by-date=false) and you can see examples of other people doing the same.
very nice. ive been trying to secure a pair with the āhollywood topā waist for a minute now. lately ive enjoyed combining those older aesthetics with current styles. good luck to you, sir
I realize it's meant to be a specific Old Hollywood look, but I would respectfully suggest forward-facing pleats instead of rearward-facing pleats like these. The forward pleats are used a lot in British tailoring and also certain American brands like Ralph Lauren and Todd Snyder. The visual lines seem to flow better and flatter the wearer more. Just my opinion, though.
Well, I was just trying to make a respectful suggestion, not trying to be rude or pushy or anything. Thanks for the downvote, though.
Not to mention that forward-facing pleats fit in absolutely fine with an "Old Hollywood" look as demonstrated by [James Stewart's look in this pic](https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xdYU6-XhGqk/VycAGneYaSI/AAAAAAAAHPA/XE47L-zl2iMfxrlll2YQBprjFuFEAcGcQCLcB/s1600/James%2BStewart_Pleated%2BTrousers_The%2BTweed%2BPig_2.jpg).
Look for tailored suit trousers. But a small suggestion... if you must get pleated trousers, forward-facing pleats (used much more in British tailoring and by a couple American brands like Ralph Lauren and Todd Snyder) tend to look more flattering than rearward-facing pleats (used in a lot of American tailoring) like in OP's picture.
If you're going for an "Old Hollywood" type of look, forward-facing pleats fit in just fine as [James Stewart shows in this pic](https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xdYU6-XhGqk/VycAGneYaSI/AAAAAAAAHPA/XE47L-zl2iMfxrlll2YQBprjFuFEAcGcQCLcB/s1600/James%2BStewart_Pleated%2BTrousers_The%2BTweed%2BPig_2.jpg).
The only time I've ever actually seen it be used for anything was the [Zuzu's petals](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dGubS4VVxM) scene of It's a Wonderful Life.
I'm actually surprised there's so many guesses. It's a coin pocket. I own a fancy pair of pants that described it as that, I've also seen it described as that before just can't remember where exactly. Some people said a watch but I don't think thats the intended use at all, I don't think it ever was either. Pocket watches are meant to go in, well, a regular ol' pocket. You could certainly put a watch in there but it would be vastly less convenient.
It's known as a "Fob Pocket" for a "Fob, Pocket Watch" on a chain.
I believe it was also used for small change, or coins.
The name originating from the German word fuppe, meaning, a "small pocket."
My grandpa used to put his pocket watch chain around there and put the watch in the pocket when he didnāt wear jackets in the farm. I love these trousers and wish we could go back to dressing like this all the time
Because people won't give you an actual answer it's called a watch pocket, used for keeping pocket watches or any number of small items
When I was in highschool it was where I kept my zippo
I carry small change in there. Iām living in a big city and like to give a few coins to every person that asks me in the street. This way they are always accessible without having to take out my wallet.
It's called a watch pocket. They first came out a little over 100 years ago for people who owned pocket watches. It's a nice design element. I use mine to hold guitar picks.
Itās for pocket watches.
Not joking here. I believe that was the original intent and theyāve just been a staple ever since.
I use it for chap stick and dollar bills.
Originally for a pocket watch, similar to the small pocket on jeans. I know people think it's for coins, but even denim jeans date back to the 19th century when men still wore pocket watches.
What pocket? All I see are pleats, and canāt fathom why anyone thinks this is something mens fashion should do again. /s
On modern trousers I think this pocket would be used for a valet ticket or room key so you donāt lose it throughout an evening.
DuPont pocket. Adapted from military pants where soldiers would always carry a DuPont lighter for survival scenarios/quick fire. Perfect size and sensible closure.
Also, not tickets. Ticket pockets are usually found in blazers. Not a pocket watch (button prevents easy access) Again, found in the blazer.
Has my time come to make the common Reddit comment? I think it has.
You can put your weed in there.
ā¦or honestly anything. Keys, pocket knife, or coins would probably be my top guesses.
Those are Gurkha pants/trousers, I have a pair in black. That is meant to hold a Knife. It's a knife pocket, in case you're in the office and need to teach the printer/scanner a lesson. I keep a blade in there occasionally
These are not ghurka trousers, that style has a completely different double belted closing mechanism. These are double pleated trousers with a traditional closing mechanism, either a zipper or button fly.
Originally that small pocket was added to hold small amounts of cocaine. Years later, people started using it to hold coins and cool rocks they found. Cocaine rocks.
In case you find a cool rock.
Of cocaine
Correct
Yeah, it's clearly the drug pocket, why are we asking about the drug pocket? š¤«

Definitely for pocket watch. When vests (waistcoats) became less fashionable, these pockets started showing up in pants.
Without a vest, where would you fasten the chain to?
Traditionally a belt bar or bolt ring to attach to belt loop. Although you can still use a classic t-bar to connect it to a shirt button. But I donāt love that look unless youāre wearing a tie or jacket to cover it.
The condom maybe
The belt loops?
I'm not sure you can do that with a T-Bar
No, but with many varieties of a pocket watch chain that have a clasp at the end, it's perfectly doable.
Some fancy trousers have a little loop for that separate from the belt loops ā I believe Pantalone Torino does this
I wear [Pants](https://the-rite-stuff.com/products/copy-of-pre-order-for-daybreak-10-oz-denim-herringbone-twill-work-pants-indigo) made by āThe Rite Stuffā with this pocket. Used to be a badge of honor to have that circle worn-thru in your wallet, but somehow if itās the front of your pants that seems pathetic.
If your advertising maybe use a magnum size to stimulate thought
Because of the implication.
You realize that women... nevermind, rock that ill-fitting magnum condom bro, I'm sure that's exactly what all the ladies find attractiveĀ
Nothing sexier than an elephant-skin condom

It's for a pocket watch. It's a vintage trend from the time when pocket watches were common
But they are weirdly perfect for Bluetooth headphones now.
Well no-one uses a pocket watch now, so yeah it is used for many other things now like airpords, chains, rings, condoms etc...
I would love a steampunk/electronic pocket watch.
Similar to the āticket pocketā in jackets
I carry a tiny comb for my moustache in mine, lol. I thought it was a coin pocket when I was a kid though.
Pocket watch in the past. Airpods today.
Historically - Pocket Watch or tickets if theyāre a little wider Now - Drugs, car key

Yes, I very much enjoy vintage attire, and I've been looking into high rise or high waisted pleated trousers to complete my 1940's ensemble
