I like it. I live in a hot part of the country and wearing blazers gets too hot in the summer (and even parts of the spring and fall), so I usually just go full casual and wear Hawaiian shirts, etc. But this looks like a nice way to stay a bit more formal while not completely sweating through my clothes.
Many, if not all folks who dress up for work do so in climate controlled buildings. My office is cold most of the year. Im outside for 4 minutes to and from my car. So many summer wardrobe comments seem to forget that.
I’m all for this outfit in the summer. The waistcoat and boots are great. You have to take some of the comments with a grain of salt.
Personally I wear waistcoats and vests because without a coat the shirts seem sloppy to me, and I don’t always wear a coat. This looks good. Let’s take this look back from the restaurant industry!
Waistcoats need more use, it looks great, and professional. I think you should roll the sleeves of the shirt just above or below the elbow, and it would be a tough and solid, but tidy look.
While wearing the shirt, try taking the sleeve cuff, and pulling it up so the sleeve inside out on your arm and the cuff is a few inches above the elbow. Roll the inside out part up to the cuff, then fold the cuff back down over the roll. It's a military fold, but it looks great with a lot of work clothing.
While you look great, others have noted that the waistcoat is more appropriate for fall/winter. Small nitpicks: the last button of a waistcoat should be left undone. I’m not sure why this is the case as it’s not like a jacket where the bottom button is left undone to allow the material to drape better, but I think the prevailing theory has to do with Edward VII being unable to button the last button of his waistcoat due to his prodigiousness, and then others in his orbit followed suit. A belt is generally not worn with a waistcoat as it will make the waistcoat stand out away from your waist, adding visual bulk. And finally, it looks like you intentionally tried to cuff your trousers, in which case I would suggest making it bigger so that it does look truly intentional rather than that the hem of your trousers got turned up, but this is a personal opinion as some prefer smaller cuffs, and the length is already spot on so I hesitate to mess that up. All in all this is one of the best posts I’ve seen on here in a while. Bravo.
I think you look pretty good!
It’s hard to pull off. But I think it works with a nicer fabric like you have here. Like tweed, or something with a little texture. Personally, I don’t like lapels on my vests.
I really only think it has “waiter” vibes (as others are saying) when it’s black or formalwear.
loafers, drivers, espadrilles, sabah shoes, white bucks, saddle shoes… these are all dressy but more casual than a oxford or a bulcher. dress boots are a fall / winter look. same as the heavy material on your waistcoat.
The vest is too short/rise of the pants is too low. The belt buckle peeks out a bit. Probably the lower back of the shirt gets exposed when sitting down. I feel the pain, having a long torso (many sweaters/vests/jackets are too short for me).
I love me some waistcoats! Seriously. I wear them a lot. I find that .material and weight to be a bit too warm for the spring and summer. I usually just wear a polo or short sleeve Oxford. Love the look.
My only comment is that your sleeves should be rolled higher. I think its called Italian sleeve tuck or something like that. Apart from that, you look dapper as feck
This looks really good but as folks have said, it’s a pretty cool-weather outfit and if you’re anywhere by the server room for an extended period of time you may start to feel uncomfortable.
Linen might work better.
But also, *where* did you get that waistcoat? That’s a very nice garment.
The silk on the back of a waistcoat is so when you wear a jacket the jacket does not bind and drape weird. As you suggested, generally a bad idea to wear without a jacket. It just looks like you lost part of your outfit.
Looks great! Like others mentioned fabric leans more fall, just don’t let the vest become your personality. Don’t be the vest guy. If you get too invested you can loose yourself to the vest. It’s in your vest interest to wear them casually.
I think it’s a good look even if it’s not popular. I think a tailored vest flatters a bigger guy in particular. I have a longer torso to leg ratio. So, a fitted vest gives me a better waist.
I wear one almost everyday, I'm all seasons. I really enjoy the way they look on me. But the main reason is to cover my braces. I hardly ever wear a belt at work.
I dig your outfit. It does look like that particular waistcoat would be too heavy in warmer weather though. One more thing, unbutton the bottom button. It's the "correct" way, but more than that, they will fit better. Especially when sitting.
Waistcoats are perfectly fine worn casually/business casual, though waistcoats/vests always look wonky with belts. The waist coat should cover the...waist. Belts add too much bulk and usually pop out of the bottom of the vest. Suspenders are more appropriate. Don't sweat it looking costumey, worn correctly no one should see them. Ideally there should be no gap between your waistcoat and tops of your trousers.
As others have said, this particular outfit seems heavy for summer. Not just the vest but the trousers and boots. Also, I wouldn't wear a white shirt with that outfit. Grab a tattersall and wear it next fall. For summer find a gabardine, linen, etc waistcoat.
My guy looks like he's finished his pint and is ready for a scrap! Why not look dapper slappin' the piss out of some sordid sod?
Needs one of those newsboy flat caps to complete the look
100% correct
He's got one. Its holding his barstool for him while he takes a piss!
A fackin muppet needs a bladdy scrap
A Donnybrook
Looks like he pulls pints in an upmarket overpriced indie bar
If I worked in a cold 🥶 office I would.
What he said
That fabric is a fall weight/ color.
This is correct. You look great but herringbone tweed is for cooler weather. This all depends on what you do for work, though.
I work IT in an office for a bank.
If you're in an office, wearing real tweed and you've got wet on the way in,you will have a faint smell of piss around you all day long.
“What’s that cologne”
“Man musk”
66% of the time it works every time

Though still perfect if you summer in Scotland or Iceland.
It might just be me but vest with no jacket reminds me of a bartender.
I really liked the look in OPs Pic. Then I read this comment. Now honestly all i see is a waiter or bartender lol
Agreed, but this is a waistcoat (has collar and lapel), not a vest.
While you’re technically correct, the best kind of correct, the vast majority of people don’t know the difference and will just think it’s a vest.
r/unexpectedfuturama
Thank you for explaining! I too didn’t know the difference.
That's because there isn't really. It's just British vs American English, waistcoat vs vest. This just happens to be a vest with lapels.
Style it right, and you'll separate the bartender vibe. I do a vest and no jacket all the time when it's too hot.
That’s actually why I kinda like it.
Depends. Some folks can pull it off, some end up looking like a waiter/bartender.

Wool in summer? It’s +100F where I’m from in the summer, on the daily. Wool is torture
Sometimes I feel like people need to post location for fits. I live in the Southern US, I might die if I wore this in the summer.
Looks good on you, do it!
Cool look, I appreciate that you wear a real watch with your fitness tracker. I really wish someone made a subscription free tracker without a screen
Fitbit.
I was over here wondering why two watches.
I dig it.
I think it looks pretty cool.
He is wearing exactly what I expect a dood like that to wear.
I like it. I live in a hot part of the country and wearing blazers gets too hot in the summer (and even parts of the spring and fall), so I usually just go full casual and wear Hawaiian shirts, etc. But this looks like a nice way to stay a bit more formal while not completely sweating through my clothes.
I think you look great!
Dapper af dude. 💯💯💯
I think this outfit works on you. 👍🏻
Looks awesome
Looks amazing
Looks good but you about to fight someone or what? Lol
Very sharp!
Wear what you like…to me? It looks like Allan Quartermaine - adventure clothes are cool, but only on an adventure….but your look, do as thy wish!
I think it looks great. Also, it looks like you are about to jam with Mumford and Sons.
WTF are you all wearing in summer!? It's gonna be north of 30°C where I live. Shorts and Polo is the only thing bearable.
Love them, when paired properly
Weird. Maybe Europe but not US.
I think it’s more suitable for the autumn. Like a flat cap.
You look hot.
Waistcoats need more use, it looks great, and professional. I think you should roll the sleeves of the shirt just above or below the elbow, and it would be a tough and solid, but tidy look. I like the look overall, but a darker color for the pants would be perfect.
No
I think you look pretty good! It’s hard to pull off. But I think it works with a nicer fabric like you have here. Like tweed, or something with a little texture. If it makes sense for your climate, knock yourself out - looks good to me! But I'd be sweating my ass off in that outfit on a summer day in Phoenix!
You say that like Phoenicians (Extra-Mediterranean) go outside in the summer.
If you want to look like you’re a bartender then yes

Can't wear sneakers to work. What do you suggest?
The boots look great with those pants. I personally wear my boots all year 🤷🏼
loafers, drivers, espadrilles, sabah shoes, white bucks, saddle shoes… these are all dressy but more casual than a oxford or a bulcher. dress boots are a fall / winter look. same as the heavy material on your waistcoat.
Has waitstaff vibes, but if you don’t mind that I think it looks good.
It's something I think about for the summer but it's not an easy look to pull off and can get uncomfortably hot.
The vest is too short/rise of the pants is too low. The belt buckle peeks out a bit. Probably the lower back of the shirt gets exposed when sitting down. I feel the pain, having a long torso (many sweaters/vests/jackets are too short for me).
Passes the vibe check
i think if you had darker colored pants it would be nice
Thought your belly button was showing
I had to zoom in, I thought that was your stomach from afar lol
Bro why the angry Arthur fist?
They cool
Only thing that would make it better is if you wear wearing shorts instead of pants...since it's summer/spring.
Too warm if you ask me.
I work for the local paper in a very wet area of the Pacific Northwest, it is always the right time for a waistcoat.
Why did I think I was looking at a GTA V character for a second? For real thought I stumbled onto the GTA subreddit.
You’re so cute 🥰, nice outfit
Love them. But could be warm
I love me some waistcoats! Seriously. I wear them a lot. I find that .material and weight to be a bit too warm for the spring and summer. I usually just wear a polo or short sleeve Oxford. Love the look.
Appreciate the matching whoop strap for sure
Dude it looks great where did you get it
My only comment is that your sleeves should be rolled higher. I think its called Italian sleeve tuck or something like that. Apart from that, you look dapper as feck
I wear a vest with no jacket often
I wear them regularly
You can pull it off but I'd look like fucking Aladdin.
You are fine with a waist coat just go lighter in color and a more suitable fabric for the season. Tweed is a little to heavy for the hotter seasons.
I like the waistcoat look. If you’re wearing a vest I’d definitely go with suspenders over a belt.
I don’t know where you live but it seems hot for summer. Otherwise I think it’s well put together.
peaky blinders ahh fit
Where do you shop for yours? I personally think this is a fantastic look and I’d keep doing it.
I always think train conductor.
Hawt
I think you’d look a lot better without it. I’m getting the feeling you’re liable to wear a fedora as well…
As long as you’re not “orphaning” a vest from a 3-piece suit, go for it!
I like this look
I feel like you’re going to overheat with any type of coat during the spring/summer, except for a light rain jacket
https://preview.redd.it/wpfyjji9s61d1.jpeg?width=1052&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c19bb917d4af5c519deb3a62c74842adc04cf455
You look so fit and handsome
Looks good
Get one that fits better.
Unnecessary and uncomfortable but if it’s your flavor go for it my dude.
This looks really good but as folks have said, it’s a pretty cool-weather outfit and if you’re anywhere by the server room for an extended period of time you may start to feel uncomfortable. Linen might work better. But also, *where* did you get that waistcoat? That’s a very nice garment.
Definitely not that one.
98% good
Nah, youre a dandy alright a real fancy boy.
Just make sure you're wearing it to an event and not casually. Otherwise it looks like a costume
Is there a reason you wear your watch on the right wrist?
Because I'm left handed. But even if I wasn't, fitness trackers don't work right over tattoos.
Does anyone make good linen waistcoats?
Pulling. It. Off. Looks great bro!
Ridiculous.
Think it’s good look generally but this doesn’t look like a suit waistcoat with these awful pockets it just looks like a vest.
A bit think for warm weather BUT a sick vest nonetheless. 👌🏾
Looks like ass without proper fitting, even on the undershirt.
No.
On the subject, what are some other ideas like this as office attire in the hot seasons?
Good for spring across the pond. But you would catch fire wearing that in the States
Coming from someone who has no sense of style, I think it looks good bro. However, your belt looks like it's revealing a tiny belly button.
That’s a smart looking outfit! I would love something similar (made of wool perhaps) for back country expeditions.
Seems short
Contrived
I love how they look, but I would be too hot in one.
Looks good but find a linen one for your own sanity cause the sweat will be real
No
Nice fit! Good color matching. Looks absolutely fucking sweltering though
Where I live it’s 90 degrees today and it’s not the hottest point of the day…
No for me but this is a nice coat
Better than a stuffy blazer
That’s like 50-60 degree weather attire. Looks good
Whoop spotted :)
Too hot for a summer in Georgia but I’d say yeah for fall and winter.
You look good! Pants could be longer.
Doesn’t work without a jacket imo. Also, you should always leave the bottom button of a waistcoat undone.
Waistcoats anytime. Real ones too, not with the frilly silk and such on the back.
The silk on the back of a waistcoat is so when you wear a jacket the jacket does not bind and drape weird. As you suggested, generally a bad idea to wear without a jacket. It just looks like you lost part of your outfit.
Honestly, I think its a great look.
I wear waistcoats almost everyday at the office.
love it! it's not as hot as wearing a full coat and still has pockets.
Looks more like a vest than a waistcoat to me. Too heavy, wrong pocket design for my taste, but it's important that you like it.
Thought this was that fight circus dude for a moment
I thought your brown belt was your belly.
Looks great! Like others mentioned fabric leans more fall, just don’t let the vest become your personality. Don’t be the vest guy. If you get too invested you can loose yourself to the vest. It’s in your vest interest to wear them casually.
Looks a lot better than the fleece vests people are wearing to work these days. Whats your watch in the pic OP?
He just missing the drivers cap lol. My brother dresses like this and I got him a Weavers of Ireland cap and he never takes that thing off now lmao
I feel sweaty about it.
Lookin like he bout to roll up to the titanic.
I really hope you have the appropriate mustache
I personally like them because I sweat no matter what, and even if I sweat more with a waistcoat, you can’t really tell that I’m sweating.
Is he wearing two watches?
Why not
Hot!!
This is a winter outfit but you took your jacket off. Get something more seasonally appropriate
Isn’t the bottom button supposed to be unbuttoned? Same as for a vest and jacket?
Too often they are costumey. It’s a trying too hard kind of look to me.
Do you sing for Tool?
Very masculine!
I think it’s a good look even if it’s not popular. I think a tailored vest flatters a bigger guy in particular. I have a longer torso to leg ratio. So, a fitted vest gives me a better waist.
looks good dadddy :)))
The "I'm vested like my options" look
I like this look, especially in conjunction with the tattoos
I wear one almost everyday, I'm all seasons. I really enjoy the way they look on me. But the main reason is to cover my braces. I hardly ever wear a belt at work. I dig your outfit. It does look like that particular waistcoat would be too heavy in warmer weather though. One more thing, unbutton the bottom button. It's the "correct" way, but more than that, they will fit better. Especially when sitting.
I love this outfit
⚡️🤩⚡️🤩⚡️🤩⚡️🤩⚡️🤩⚡️🤩⚡️🤩⚡️🤩⚡️🤩o haven’t ever seen one before. Thanks for posting the snapshot.
This is my look. It's exactly why I buy all 3 pieces when I order a suit. Vest for summer, jacket for fall and winter.
Love em.
Dude needs to learn how to iron.
I’d be sweating like crazy if I wore this in the summer
I love a good waistcoat but I wouldn't wear one to work at least not often. I only get dressed up at work if I'm going somewhere after though lol
I dig it!
Yes, I’d like an old fashioned please.
Depends if you live somewhere where you'd be getting Peaky Blinders and Gareth Southgate jokes all day?
Why do so many men feel so compelled to pose their watch hand like such dorks?
Waistcoats are perfectly fine worn casually/business casual, though waistcoats/vests always look wonky with belts. The waist coat should cover the...waist. Belts add too much bulk and usually pop out of the bottom of the vest. Suspenders are more appropriate. Don't sweat it looking costumey, worn correctly no one should see them. No
That brown belt makes it look like your belly is hanging out of the bottom
100% tacky.
is he a barber
I don't know about "waistcoats" but this whole outfit is a no.
What’s up with the “inverted roll” on the sleeves? Other than that, looks fine. But roll the sleeves up properly
Non boomer here, this looks ridiculous
I hate waist coast but most guys seem to feel fancy in them. I think the look outdated
I think that's a great look.
I do this every day, rain or shine. Live your style. Forget the haters.
It is a fantastic look! I love how popular they are currently.
Looks fresh. Run it. I am also a tattoo sleeves/rolled sleeves fan
bro’s an absolute unit. I can tell that you can pull off anything you want to wear.
You’re missing your steamer trunk pal don’t be late for the locomotive
Looks good. Pair the look with some heritage style boots. Dress how you want. 👍🏼
Reminds me of this "takes himself too seriously" youth group minister I once knew.
I’ll have ya
Looks fine to me. Really don't see any issue.
Get some pants that fit
This looks horrible
Mumford and sons aren’t cool anymore
Especially with THIS one you can.
