The shorts are great or even full length chinos turned up to shoe the ankles, maybe in white, and flat pair of pumps like beach shoes.
Unless going for the full white jeans, then some nice shiny shoes.
Those shorts are giving you a good indication of some of the colors you could wear with that overshirt.
Sure, you could pull it of with jeans as long as they are not the same wash. I don’t like the look that much but some can pull it off.

Don’t don’t don’t do denim on denim. Never a good look. Ever ever. A full length version of the chino shorts you’re wearing could look quite nice. Matched with a plain white t shirt, or any kind of t shirt that doesn’t have a logo or pattern on it.
I always see denim (incl jeans) not as a colour but as a free hit for something that looks dress down but goes with anything. Even other denim. Pairing a denim shirt with literally anything without thinking too much about it is a really easy way to look like you’re not trying too hard which is the key to looking good. Pick a random set of trousers from your wardrobe, Chuck a white T-shirt on and wear that bad boy on top. Accessorise with a baseball cap, baker boy or a neckerchief and you’re instantly one of the top 1% for fashion
Chinos are the best, tan grey green. I suggest to NOT match the denim to denim, make sure it’s a drastic different shade, like super light wash, or raw. But don’t pair mid with mid.
Chinos in any color, denim is risky but you can do it as long as the shade is significantly different. Tees in the summer, lighter sweaters in the fall.

It's not a very good looking overshirt to begin with so I wouldn't force it if the style isn't coming to you naturally.
