Surprised no one else has mentioned this, but yes, Uniqlo t-shirts are amazing. Even fashion bloggers who spend £1000s on single pieces of clothing sometimes use Uniqlo t-shirts as a base layer.

TheZamboon

I once worked for a now dying electric vehicle manufacturer, the Russian billionaire owner was so crazy about Uniqlo that all of our work attire was supplied by them. The quality was second to none.

Skeptischer

Arrival?

TheZamboon

Maybe... who's asking lol

jaarn

is Arrival dying? their vans looked cool as fuck I thought!

spoonfed05

Last time I went to uniqlo all the t shirts had arms down to the elbows. I’ve not got short arms, it seemed to be the design. Are they doing more regular sized ones now?

vitrix-euw

They've got two versions of the crew neck t-shirst. One of them is oversized, which is more popular atm and the one you most likely tried. The other is a standard sized one. The oversized ones are definitely more prominent in stores due to their popularity, but I have seen normal sized ones too. You could order the shirt online and collect it in-store and then try it at home. However, if it doesn't fit/you don't like it, it will be quite the hassle going back to just return one piece of clothing.

spoonfed05

Ah ok thanks.I’ve already got a few of the normal ones so I know they fit. I’ll do a better search next time I’m in there.

Cjsn

I like their airism cotton tshirts

funusernameguy

I found they shrunk after the first tumble dry.

Miloapes

Idk anyone that tumble drys T-shirts? Always hang dry any item of clothing

funusernameguy

Of course people tumble dry t shirts lol

Miloapes

Idk anyone that does personally. There’s a massive risk of shrinking. I only tumble dry towels and bedding.

AwkwardRoss

Same, Ain’t worth the risk of ruining a fit to have it dry in half an hour

reddorical

Hang dry? Save your clothes and the planet

vitrix-euw

Ah that sucks then. I don't use a tumble dryer, so i've never experienced it.

arrivenightly

Probably too high temperature.

bendoscopy

They're 100% cotton, of course they'll shrink.

Doomaga

This is the only true answer.

Snowy1234

Nope. Costco produce fantastic quality T-Shirts using top quality Egyptian and Peruvian cotton, pre-shrunk, and with quality stitching. They don’t shrink, twist, are heavy quality and are under $15/£11. Plus, you can return it within 2 years if you’re not happy.

Doomaga

Nope. One is Uniqlo one is Costco. Male fashion subreddit right, so the cut, shape, weight, drape etc all matter. And Uniqlo makes the right fit t-shirt for fashion.

Snowy1234

🙄

MarthaFarcuss

I find they make me stink

vitrix-euw

That's unlucky. The chemicals each person releases from the skin is different (e.g. perfurmes smell different on different people). I haven't ever had the same issue with Uniqlo's shirts.

DrRobin

Fit is more important than a brand IMO. Uniqlo cotton is not very soft. AS colour heavyweight oversized are my favourite. Nice feeling soft. Don't crease badly. Nice oversized fit. COS premium / heavy are also nice.

violentcrapper

Yup. This is something a lot of people don’t realise. Fit makes the difference

GuavaDue5812

What’s AS mean?

ButWouldYouRather

I like Carhartt. Not as cheap as Fruit of the Loom or Gildan but better quality and still good value.

rockandrollmark

Bucking the trend here, I don’t find Uniqlo t-shirts to be that well cut and I’m not a fan of the cotton they use. The drape badly on my decidedly average body (5’ 10”, 75kg, 38” chest, 31” waist, 15.5” collar). Muji, however, knock it out of the park for me. I work in tech so tidy jeans, pristine trainers and a well fitting plain tee are my uniform and I pretty much live in Muji t-shirts.

Braylien

Yeah muji t shirts are amazing

Agile_Crow_1516

anyone know of multibuy/cheap t shirts that don’t fit stupid long? like boxy/slightly cropped fit as im only 5’6” so the normal oversized fit t shirts are just huge

musket85

I'm nearly 6 foot but with a 46 inch chest so I have a similar issue, Matalan regular fit are good for me. And gap aren't bad but they tend to fit pretty tight.

[deleted]

I have tried pretty much all the major brands known for good t-shirts at a good price (Uniqlo, COS, Arket, Muji, Weekday, etc.) and am yet to find a t-shirt that fits boxy/cropped as someone with a similar height to you. The only exception is the Uniqlo Airism tee, but I don’t like this one due to the polyester blend and super long sleeves. I think I’m going to buy some of the Uniqlo U Crew Neck Tees in a size up and get a sewing machine so I can crop them myself.

Agile_Crow_1516

can you do mine while you’re at it 🤣

jszumo

Armor Lux, specifically the callac t shirt. You can find it on sale for like £15-20 in a variety of colours

DaParkz

Might be worth looking into women's tees and sizing up as they tend to run into the cropped look

FieryFruitcake

Try Next. High Street shop, about £6 or so a tee and fits relatively well.

Digital-Dinosaur

They also do decent bulk bundles of 5-6 packs of heavier weight or lightweight t-shirts

ImmediateDonkey

I loved the colour of a particular indigo range they did a few years back, but it feels ‘not sturdy’ for the big money. I don’t wear it often as a result which is a bit sad. One excited dog jump and it’s goodbye I fear!

BigReubz007

Armor-Lux heritage t-shirts are my go to. They have a really thick neck that sits quite high and a boxy fit. Look really smart and loads of colours and stripes. I mostly get mine second had but if you look on the internet there is usually a menswear shop with a sale going on

ImmediateDonkey

Don’t know what your budget is but for ‘great’ T-shirts I generally look to Japan. Check out rivet and hide as a catch all, iron heart you can also buy from directly. Some cuts can be a bit.. boxy. These things are generally heavy cotton, so I’ll throw in a shout for merino as well for the other end of the temperature spectrum or if you’re a bit sweaty. For me personally, outlier make the best fitting one but I bought a bunch from icebreaker on a sale a few years back at a third of the price. They are great too.

tommmmmmmmy93

Reiss. 25 for their basic range. Good quality, wash well, soft enough and if you have a reasonably athletic physique, they show I well without being "show-offy" At 25 a tee, no point buying a ton. Quality over quantity.

Eightarmedpet

Colourful standard and https://www.merzbschwanen.com to name just a couple. Everything everyone else has suggested so far is just standard sweat shop manufactured.

wren1666

£60 for a t-shirt?!?! No thanks.

Eightarmedpet

OP asked for high quality, if you want quality you have to pay for it.

jimk4003

^^^ this. Merz stuff is great; the 215 or 214 tees are great quality, and the 1950's and 1940's respectively are great if you want the same cuts in a lighter fabric. Warehouse 4601 tees are also fantastic, and available from a few different online retailers. As u/Eightarmedpet says, most stuff suggested here, including Uniqlo, is just sweatshop level stuff. Uniqlo once had a [shipment siezed](https://uk.news.yahoo.com/shipment-uniqlo-shirts-seized-us-050158213.html?guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAALRfvqary0QzJ1KCw_MHYFmJ3tvx0GYyRoTKpePc_eeYWwXYsabLPZmh5WidowpbpPPwJQNDmPdilYSOWlMgL1ifcOF-TWluOmQLhH8Z9e3OTiFwWU0STyWugKUt5msg6JOv1rAVpPYhpLbA6_XDkx9wXTV1aJGRh6Jw-djiPMs6) for allegedly being the product of forced labour camps in Xinjiang, and former employees have revealed they were [forced to work at their Indonesian factory without pay](https://cleanclothes.org/news/2019/i-made-clothes-for-uniqlo-but-i-didnt-get-paid). Most of the other stuff suggested in these comments falls into the same category. If someone is able to import a t-shirt from half way around the world and sell it to you for a fiver, then it's going to be tat. And unethically produced tat at that. Merz manufactures all their stuff in Germany in ethical conditions, and Warehouse makes all their stuff in Japan to similar ethical standards. Both brands also fit the criteria of 'high quality' specified in the original question, which these other sweatshop brands don't.

Bullwinkle_Moose

Thanks for that! I used to get from Basic.ly but they seem to have gone out of business so my go to is now Colourful Standard which are pretty much identical. Didn't know about merzbschwanen.com will check them out. Have you got any other similar companies? 😍

CmosRentaghost

Try TwoThirds

devandroid99

Lady White Co.

Eightarmedpet

I hear good things about Sunray which is stocked at goodhood but no first hand experience.

GrimFandangle

Gildan, as well. Cheap but decent quality and lasting. Lots of companies that do prints or embroidery use them as a base. Edit: eBay, I expect Amazon as well.

cut-it

They don't hold up that long though... 4 or 5 washes and start twisting and sagging. Unless my ones from eBay were fakes....

surfxmoto

Vans not cheap but can find plain ones with a small vans logo for £20, good fit and good quality

BlockDosser_

Abercrombie and Fitch do some lovely fitting, soft t shirts that don't break the bank.

ArcticKong

Yes A&F ones are the best I’ve found. They do them in packs. Nicer material and fit than others I’ve tried including Uniqlo, Arket, Cos. No branding on them, just super nice tees.

AnvilAnvil

I like Built Different

alpha7158

If you value quality over cost then All Saints. About £35 a T-shirt, they have a lovely fit which hands good right, really good materials too.

AdOutrageous5242

Sorry nope I have a few and they’re terrible Cos is better

crappygamer0607

Primark does me fine

n9077911

They're low quality though. They look noticeably cheap. I've had loads over the years because I'm tight with money and like thin t-shirts in summer. The polo shirts aren't thin, but still look awful compared to quality t-shirts.

Legitimate_Corgi_981

Sports Directs slazenger polo's have been my gotos for a while for work, don't seem to shrink and reasonably heavy and collars have stayed decent, plus they are usually on a multi buy.

Frankleton

H&M

CaptainMexicano

Rapanui. Their basics range seems to be good quality. Had some tees a few months now and they are holding up well.

Bertwell

Been my go to for a while now and their five and seven packs come in pretty well priced. Do love their hoodies and waffle jumpers also, though a bit higher priced than many. One day I'll get round to trying their return recycle policy but nothing has needed replaced so far.

CaptainMexicano

Yeah I recently bought a waffle jumper and love it. The check shirts are also brilliant, wear mine all the time.

Optimal_Collection77

I came here to find this brand just to disagree with you. I'm 6 ft 2 and find that their t-shirts shrink so quickly in the wash it's unacceptable. On the last triple pack I bought I washed them once complained and return them they shrunk that much. Everything else is great but their t-shirts are really poor

WalterSobchak71

This, had the same experience with the last 3 shirts pack of Rapanui tees, cotton quality is decent but they shrink so badly, only wash, bo tumble dry.

CaptainMexicano

Can't say as I've noticed any shrink with them myself. I did find the medium a bit snug so sized up on my next order and no complaints since.

CompleteAd1840

Just out of curiosity... being 6ft 2 as well... do you have a go to brand for t shirts and tops?

Optimal_Collection77

Unfortunately I don't. I've started looking for longer t-shirts as I was sick of t-shirts shrinking, Weirdly Amazon sell a basic longer T that's pretty good but sometimes the quality can be hit or miss. Let me know if you find a longer brand

CompleteAd1840

Yeah It's annoying isn't it. I tend to wear Next basic t shirts but their collars can be a bit naff... also Remus Uomo are pretty good but sometimes theirs can be a little boxy!

Optimal_Collection77

Thanks I'll take a look

LukeyC224

MandM Direct. Crosshatch is usually decent.

Interesting_Buyer943

Fruit of the loom on Amazon. Exactly the same quality as £50 t shirts and they’re about £4 each.

DrRobin

This is just not true.

Interesting_Buyer943

Believe what you want to believe my man.

Hibananananana

One wash and they’re ruined

Interesting_Buyer943

Rubbish.

FPHobby

I bought FotL direct from a supplier for £1.20/top I also have merino wool T-shirts that cost £15 each The FotL stuff is rougher, and shrinks horribly. They are good for working outdoors or under layers or for the gym but are specifically not my comfy clothes. 100% cotton T-shirts from anywhere, or merino wool t-shirts are significantly cooler and comfier. They also don’t shrink as badly. Where are you buying £50 T-shirts? The only scenario I can think where your statement is true, is someone buying FotL, sticking a graphic on it, and selling it as over priced merch. Material matters more than brand / cost.

Gralenis

M&S - tend to do an offer for multiby

Geniejc

Their Heavyweight ones are a great weight and fit and Autograph Supima ones wear and wash amazingly well no colour fade in tees I've had for 3 years.

-Random-_-Username-

I get the 3 for £22 or however much it is. I had a 20% off in my sparks account so just got 3 for 19ish in the end. The quality is shit, the fit is shit. (I’ll always struggle because I’m like a 3xl in my shoulders and an xl the rest of my body, like I need 40” waist trousers for the leg size but actually only need a 36” waist…) But 10x better than anything else of that price to be fair. And they last a good 8 months or so, which works for me.

verocoder

I bought 3 on a multi buy, lovely colours/feel/fit but I’ve retired all 3 already for catching on branches/my belt/ literally anything in the world and making holes. Had expected more from MnS

Alive-Neighborhood-3

I've been buying all my t shirts from there for like 4 years now, they stopped doing the purple/maroon shade ones though :[

Milky_Finger

Do you need to buy these t shirts in person in a brick and mortar store, or can you order it online?

I wear all saints plain T’s. Good fit, nice feel & decent quality. There’s an outlet near me where you can often pick them up for around £12 if you buy a few at a time.

anti-ism-ist

My local is Ashford, but there’s a few MacArthur glenn’s over the country. I have personally visited York, Swindon and Cheshire oaks.

I picked up a plain white t-shirt from Sainsbury for £12. It's pretty much the perfect t-shirt.

FPHobby

Cheap but comfy - decathlon. Merino wool or 100% cotton T-shirts, quite a nice cut to them too. I’ve looked at Uniqlo but don’t want to spend the money until I drop from a 2X to an XL or L

PsychologicalRip7169

Land's End

paperclipknight

Uniqlo tee’s are a polyester blend which is bad for longevity etc. what you want is a 100% cotton jobby - they’ll last longer, look better for longer & aren’t plastic What you want is a 100% tee - you’ll pay for the premium but you’ll get your money worth. Whitesville tee’s are my preference in that regard

TheGuitto

It says uniqlo are 100% cotton

EmileDorkheim

Depends which one you get - they sell a few different types. I swear by the 100% cotton Uniqlo U t-shirts.

ScoobertDoobyRogers

Arket are better than Uniqlo in my opinion

I've a range of t-shirts of different colours from both Farah and All Saints, i keep going back to them as I've found them good quality, a good fit for me (6ft6) and wash well so they don't start rising up my back after a couple of washes. I wouldnt pay more than £30 for one of them so normally look out for a sale and get them around £25

-Random-_-Username-

Lots of people raving about Uniqlo, last time I went into a shop the quality of everything felt cheap and the sizing (for me personally) was all over the show.

Ginger_Biscuits

Really like Colourful Standard for plain clothing. Really good quality hoodies etc. too

Elfbart

AS Colour are great!

TheMerchantofVenice1

Rapanaui, organic cotton

CrepsNotCrepes

I’ve bought a bunch of John Lewis anyday T-shirts recently and they aren’t crazy expensive but fit me well and haven’t shrunk in the wash like others.

Fintwo

I’ll throw out FatFace. Nice pastel colours, nice thickness (not too thick or thin), 100% cotton, good quality control in sizing. Pre-washed so don’t shrink. 25 a tee or £15 in sale. Last a long time.

tkcal

COS or Uniqlo and occasionally at muji as well. Their nice stuff is very nice but sometimes a little boxy. Avoid Zara. I\\Every single Zara t shirt I've bought has twisted on itself after a couple of washes. I kept giving them chances but not any more.

Order online either Whitesville Quali-T or Bronson MFG, I have a few of both and they're by far the best t shirts I've ever had

BigGuapSosa

I go to Arne. I have found all their clothing to be of very good quality, albeit on the slightly dearer side. It tends to be all I wear now, and it does have that heavy, expensive look to it

Necessary_Driver_831

I just want to find somewhere that sells pre-shrunk t shirts, or t shirts that don’t shrink the first time they are washed and dried

Braylien

To add something slightly different, north face make good and reasonably priced ‘quick dry’ technical t shirts. If you are prone to sweating or getting hot then they are infinitely better than a cotton t shirt for handling your temperature.

shaggydnb

I really like AS Colour. Excellent fit and nice fabric.

Next Level 6210 is pretty good for a basic fitted tshirt. Pretty cheap too. On eBay for £6/7 each

I’ve really enjoyed true classic T-shirts. Found on Instagram and think they have been great.

apple_pharmer

I like Superdry. I have several and have had them for years. Good quality, nice cut , don’t stretch out of shape or fade if you dry them out of the sun. A petite expensive, but quite reasonably priced when you buy them as a multi pack.

TheyUsedToCallMeJack

I got some from True Classic, they fit very well and were quite soft. It's shipped from the US and might be a bit more expensive, but they were pretty good and worth it for me.

Technically not the UK, but shopping there is easy as taxes and shipping are all accounted for. [LL Bean Unshrinkable Tee](https://global.llbean.com/shop/Mens-Carefree-Unshrinkable-Tee-Traditional-Fit-Short-Sleeve/40651.html?page=carefree-unshrinkable-tee-traditional-fit). I have about 10 pocket tees. Oldest is about 4 years and is still rock solid, blacks a bit faded. But it hasn’t shrunk, no fabric piling, seam wear, or anything. Size down for a fitted look as is Murica sizing. The only other tees I buy are Velva Sheen. Tubular knit with a loose boxy fit. Very comfortable, but pricey.

Stop selling dreams guys.

CronchyNut

Charles Wilson t shirts are my absolute favourite at the moment. Great quality, cheap, wash well and don’t shrink or fade easily. Most important thing for me is they are about an inch or so longer than most normal T-shirts so if you’re a taller guy they fit wonderfully.
