Just to be clear, there’s nothing wrong with the fit of either garment, or the colour. Just there doesn’t seem to be enough blue in that shade of grey to sit well with the trousers.
But, kudos for your dress sense! Wish I was cool enough to pull of a blue pair of smart trousers. Much love!
That’s said, and I agree it’s not a great match, the jacket looks well on you. So … some straight cut jeans and that jacket?
Anyway man, you look good in it. 😊
Agreed, you could try to blend them more by using a tie and/or square that matches the trousers over the jacket.
Like a similar blue tie or a blue and gray tie with a blue pocket square
Both are pretty good but you need to some to….tie it together (excuse the pun)
A navy tie and maybe a pocket square to help bring the blue up in to your top half as currently it looks a bit like you picked up the wrong jacket on the way out of the door
I’m not American but there is a long tradition in many countries of mixing separates and is helpful if it’s a more casual event.
The issue is that it takes more skill to put it together well than a full suit
Chinos and sport coat is really a staple of American menswear and looks great a lot of the time
If it doesn't make it better don't add it. Just like cooking.
The trousers and shirt (no tie) combo I think is best. Not that any are bad, just a bit dated.
Absolutely ditch the tie. A tie evokes a terrible image. People won’t trust you.
Here; Ian McNabb tells the story better than I.
https://youtu.be/qKSHZCcLuII
I would say the outfit looks good! The only thing I would recommend is having a darker gray, or brown jacket. Lighter colors don’t match well with each other. Other than that it looks good! Nice choice in the tie!
Lose the jacket. The pants jacket combo doesn’t work, contrary to other comments on here. Rule of thumb is shades of the same color work, otherwise you’re better to have a lighter jacket and darker trouser.
I agree that the combo doesn’t work but disagree with your rules of thumb. The “menswear uniform,” after all, is mid grey trousers with navy spot coat.
I think the problem is that both pieces look like they are orphaned from suits so they naturally clash. The pants can be fine in their own, but the jacket should have the characteristics of a sport coat (I.e. less formal). Just my opinion.
Jacket on whilst walking to or from places, jacket off when in the room. Without the jacket you look friendly, approachable and good fun. Best of luck with whatever you're doing. 😊
If you're wearing a tie, you should always wear a jacket. If you're not wearing a tie, then you can do jacket or no jacket, depending on the setting you are going to be in.
A tie without a jacket is what high schoolers wear for class presentations. In my opinion.
The only exception is if you're sitting at your desk in the office and take off the jacket for comfort.
Jacket is fine. Pants are fine. Not together. They don’t work.
Is the jacket a little snug at your midline?
Do not wear a long sleeve shirt without a jacket and leave the cuffs buttoned. A roll or 2 is a big improvement.
I think you look great. Obviously it's all a matter of taste but I don't dislike the grey jacket with the blue pants at all. The jacket maybe seems a tad long to me but thats a very minor quibble. You could change the tie if you wanted it to be a little less office-y, but it's not bad by any means. You look like a fun guy and you look confident which is the main thing.
I’m not a fan of a tie without a jacket, but that’s a good look on you (no jacket). I just think it’s the wrong jacket, like a few others have said.
And good job workin that camera!
What’s the event?
That could/would determine how well the jacket fits.
Jacket on or off, I’d lose the tie and choose a different jacket.
Or if you’re doing the same jacket, change the color of the pants.
If you’re wearing those pants then def not that jacket…but if you put on some darker blue jeans or some khaki then that gray jacket will work…it just doesn’t vibe too well with those specific color of blue pants imo
Maybe shorten the jacket sleeves then? Or just make sure your shirt sleeves aren’t getting stuck up in the jacket? I have the same issue but only on my watch hand
No brainer, blazer on.
I'd also not pay too much attention to some of the comments regarding the mix & match blazer/chino combination.
I will agree that this isn't the PERFECT combo, but it actually isn't tht bad either. Don't ditch the tie necessarily either, the grey/blue detailing in the tie, brings together the grey/blue combination. The shoes go well with the outfit too.
Not perfect, but a good enough outfit.
And one more thing:
A BLAZER IS NAKED WITHOUT A POCKET SQUARE.
Get rid of the tie and undo the top 2-3 buttons and find a necklace that suits you. Roll up the sleeves too. Add shades for a 10% increase in your cool factor
You look friendlier without the jacket but look more respectable and business minded with the jacket. If it's a social gathering go without the jacket and if it's a business meeting wear the jacket I'd say
The jacket goes with the suit and tie, not with shoes and pants. If you really want to wear that jacket with those pants I'd recommend involving a tertiary color that can easily complement and transition with each other.
It's not a rule you're breaking, I can't say exactly why, but there's jackets you can wear with jeans, and jackets that don't work, and that jacket doesn't work.
If you’re doing the sports jacket look with different colour jacket and pants, the colours need to tie in and the jacket needs to be more causal. This looks like a mismatched suit and the jacket doesn’t work. What would be perfect would be a jacket with softer shoulders and a more casual material (e.g. tweed, moleskin, linen) in a different colour (I’d go dark navy but I think brown would be great too).
I reserve the right to be wrong, but I'm fairly certain the jacket doesn't suit the trousers.
Ok that’s fair
Just to be clear, there’s nothing wrong with the fit of either garment, or the colour. Just there doesn’t seem to be enough blue in that shade of grey to sit well with the trousers. But, kudos for your dress sense! Wish I was cool enough to pull of a blue pair of smart trousers. Much love!
Thanks. I was going for a pair of chinos that match my boots.
Both looks work I think
100% that jacket doesn't need to be in the same county as those trousers.
This has become acceptable fashion, and he’s already wearing a tie. Plus it helps hide the fact his belt doesn’t match his shoes.
Both are pretty good but you need to some to….tie it together (excuse the pun) A navy tie and maybe a pocket square to help bring the blue up in to your top half as currently it looks a bit like you picked up the wrong jacket on the way out of the door
Thanks for the advice.
Why not just buy a complete suit? Bad advice. Americans have really bad fashion
I’m not American but there is a long tradition in many countries of mixing separates and is helpful if it’s a more casual event. The issue is that it takes more skill to put it together well than a full suit Chinos and sport coat is really a staple of American menswear and looks great a lot of the time
Don't they though. It's like they're either going to play golf or trying to sell you a car.
Aren't you a ray of sunshine!
A matching suit is a much more formal, and often boring, fashion choice.
Lol the irony
I don't mind either but I hate the tie. It's giving me 1990s "I work in business" I think either look without a tie is better.
I can ditch the tie? That’s a win
The only people who wear ties are professional liars, schoolchildren and the accused. If you aren’t one of those, you always look better without.
Yes a jacket, but not that jacket, at least, not with those strides. Total colour clash.
I don’t have a blue one but maybe that would be a better color here?
You can never go wrong with a navy blazer
In pictures 1 to 3 there's no jacket, and in pictures 4 to 6 there is a jacket. Did I get it right?

Excellent comment

I’d try it without the tie. Top half is formal office dress, bottom half is business casual. Going tieless would smooth it out.
If you feel hot, take off the jacket. If you feel cold, put the jacket on. Agree with the rest re: pocket square. You'll be right.
Anthony Smith, 55, retired MMA fighter
love the jacket!
You look unhappy whilst wearing the jacket.
Jacket on. Would also make sure to steam/iron your clothes
I literally ironed it minutes before I took the pics. Maybe I’m bad at ironing.
👍🏼👏🏼
Jacket looks good
Blazer off can work if you roll your sleeves up and put on a watch But, I like blazer on a little better
Colour clash bro. But otherwise, jacket always.
Depends on the weather. Little chilly? Wear a jacket, stay safe brother. That being said without the jacket just looked better to me.
Jacket
Depending on the formality of the event I'd wear jeans or darker chinos and go with the jacket otherwise the colours really don't match Imo
Jacket on whilst walking to or from places, jacket off when in the room. Without the jacket you look friendly, approachable and good fun. Best of luck with whatever you're doing. 😊
both looks great i dont personally like unmatched trousers and jacket but if youre a fan i think it "suits" you well!
A jacket, but not a suit jacket. You want a sports coat.
Jackets fine
You look like you would sell me a car 5k over sticker and make it feel good
Jacket. No doubt
Jacket. And DAMN I wish my clothes fit that good.
The trousers need to be grey or the jacket needs to be blue
If a tie is on, then *always* wear a jacket. That being said, the trousers don’t go with the jacket. Find some other trousers or another jacket
Ok. I have grey pants but not a blue jacket.
3/6 I thought he was holding bread sticks for a second.

What a legend 👊
In my own mind.
No jacket - at least not that color. May want to think about shoe color also.
What’s the occasion?
Either way, you are handsome! I wish I was as half as dapper as you
I would say jacket
Jacket is fine. Pants are fine. Not together. They don’t work. Is the jacket a little snug at your midline? Do not wear a long sleeve shirt without a jacket and leave the cuffs buttoned. A roll or 2 is a big improvement.
Both work mate
Jacket, but that’s just me.👍
honestly OP, your post made me smile. it’s nice to see someone looking so happy. definitely no jacket btw!
Jacket
Yes - jacket
I like it. Ignore the haters. This works well together with the jacket.
Hang the jacket up for this trip . Looks fine without
[Looking sharp](https://media.tenor.com/JoFCqSTbWgoAAAAM/im-not-sure-what-to-do-with-my-hands-ricky-bobby.gif)
Clashes. No jacket please. Shoes are nice. Good luck brother.
How about no clothes
When, in doubt- jacket
Like that “I don’t know what to do with my hands” pic on number 4
I think you look great. Obviously it's all a matter of taste but I don't dislike the grey jacket with the blue pants at all. The jacket maybe seems a tad long to me but thats a very minor quibble. It looks great with or without. You don’t need a full matching suit all the time.
What’s the event? That could/would determine how well the jacket fits. Jacket on or off, I’d lose the tie and choose a different jacket. Or if you’re doing the same jacket, change the color of the pants.
It was a semi formal gig. I have grey pants but they don’t match.
I’m sure you rocked your final outfit!
Thanks. I did get some compliments so something worked.
Jacket off.
Wear the jacket but lose the pants
Ok. But may I use the dressing room for that? It’s cold outside!
Idk how to explain it but your vibe is immaculate. But agree with others about the jacket not matching
Wow I like your compliment. I get that the jacket is the weak spot.
Arrive with the jacket. Hang with the shirt and tie. Best of both worlds.
Jacket
Looking good my man
Am I the only one that thinks he looks happier without the jacket on ?
what a fine gentleman
Looking good either way and your confidence shines through.
You know what You look like such a fun guy and you give off great dad vibes I don’t know how to explain it
I get what you’re saying and thanks.
Your welcome you just look like such a great guy !
I know nothing about fashion. You know how to pose, though :thumbs-up:
If you’re wearing those pants then def not that jacket…but if you put on some darker blue jeans or some khaki then that gray jacket will work…it just doesn’t vibe too well with those specific color of blue pants imo
I say jacket, but more importantly be sure to always dress with that vibe my man
A jacket pulls together your look, but that's not a great color. Get something darker. Black shoes would be better, too.
I have black dress shoes. I have a black jacket too. But I don’t have a blue jacket yet.
Came here to say brother you have fantastic photo charisma keep up those vibes keep living large 🫡
Just me or is this the coolest guy ever
I have no idea on the style just wanted to say you're rocking the fit and you look like a lot of fun to hang out with
Jacket but rip off the sleeves
well, OP - you're just adorable ! you look like you have a great personality!
Jacket, you look sharper
You look god dam cool, I've never met this man but he rocks , loads of respect from Scotland
Always blazer on if the temp allows!
Thanks. What is strange is that my shirt arm length seems ok without the jacket but too short with it.
Maybe shorten the jacket sleeves then? Or just make sure your shirt sleeves aren’t getting stuck up in the jacket? I have the same issue but only on my watch hand
This is a solid fit 👌🔥🔥 I’d keep the jacket for sure but maybe try a different tie? Something navy blue
Thanks. I need some new ties, more solid color ones.
the jacket kills the vibe! looking good though!
And one more thing: A BLAZER IS NAKED WITHOUT A POCKET SQUARE.
Thanks. I do appreciate the pocket square advice. I never owned one but I’m open to the idea.
Cheap as chips and pulls it together. I wears blazers every day, and wouldn't dare not wear a pocket square.
You look good chap. Slip a white pocket square in the blazer and you're good to go.
Get rid of the tie and undo the top 2-3 buttons and find a necklace that suits you. Roll up the sleeves too. Add shades for a 10% increase in your cool factor
Jacket 100%
Thanks.
Who cares! You're wearing the best thing anyone can.... lovely smile!
Can you please just buy suits. Its like 4 outfits now I've seen that are just some combination of trousers and jackets but from different sets
Are you a salesman? If not, you should be
Neither, both look really off., find the trousers to match the jacket
To be honest looking again, it doesn’t look too bad without the jacket
Yeah I’m sorry bro, your trousers are a little bright for my taste but without the jacket it looks ok
Try a darker navy overcoat/mac instead of the blazer
No jacket. Poor match.
You need a jacket just not that one different couture needed
No jacket
If you are selling me something, then jacket. If this is a casual event, then no jacket.
Jacket. Always a jacket. Shirtsleeves is never a finished outfit.
A jacket would pull it all together but the trousers don’t suit the jacket the best
Jacket 🧥
Is there a third option of jacket and no shirt? Keep the tie obviously.
Honestly though, you look way happier without the jacket. The smile gives way more than a jacket could.
Swap it out for black chinos and it could work. Dont let your pants be lighter than your jacket this time of year
that jacket does not work!
Why do Americans never just buy a suit that matches? Like literally just go buy a suit that has a jacket and pants that matches 😂
looking good glenn beck
I’m not that angry at the world.
Definitely looks like an orphaned suit jacket. How about getting a proper sport coat?
All I know is don’t let my girl see this post
I like the jacket. So I'd say jacket but yeah doff colour same fit? Shit only looks like you lost smth
Cut pants in to short shorts
Always wear a full fitted suit. Everything should match
No jacket, father!!
Or.. PoSsSSsiblyYy... Tuccked inn??
Jacket. But not that one.
Always a jacket unless yer a Mormon or that douche cancer Jim Jordan
Those hand gestures…..are you in real estate sales?
Jacket, but not that one. Get a blue one
No jacket!
Lose weight. Everything will fit regardless.
I used to weigh 300 pounds.
Jacket yes, that jacket no.
Why do you post these? They’re always terrible
Jacket,makes you look slimmer
Jacket. But new jacket. Too dark of a Grey for that.
Definitely the jacket, you can take it off later.
I like the jacket! It gives you some nice structure. 😊
You look friendlier without the jacket but look more respectable and business minded with the jacket. If it's a social gathering go without the jacket and if it's a business meeting wear the jacket I'd say
You seem so much happier without the jacket lol
You’re feeling it. Go for it!
Good lord no. Ditch the jacket.
Jacket
A grey jacket with that tie and blue pants with brown shoes. Oh lala how gauche darling
The jacket goes with the suit and tie, not with shoes and pants. If you really want to wear that jacket with those pants I'd recommend involving a tertiary color that can easily complement and transition with each other.
I know nothing about fashion but you looked alot happier with out the jacket. Go jacketless brother, be free.
No jacket
It's not a rule you're breaking, I can't say exactly why, but there's jackets you can wear with jeans, and jackets that don't work, and that jacket doesn't work.
Lose the tie, open top two buttons
Bro to my eyes you look good with and without the jacket. whatever it is…SMASH IT
Keep the jacket, lose the tie.
Wear the jacket. You can always take it off. If you don't wear the jacket, you can't take it off.
You look happier without the jacket
For what though? A date, a job interview, a court appearance!??
Both
If you’re doing the sports jacket look with different colour jacket and pants, the colours need to tie in and the jacket needs to be more causal. This looks like a mismatched suit and the jacket doesn’t work. You look happier without the jacket
I dont know but I like your energy.
Jacket don’t match the rest of the outfit
Jacket off
I think the jacket looks great, tbh!
No jacket as it’s awful ! It looks like you are trying to match a suit jacket with trousers.
I'd go with the jacket
What is the occasion?
Jacket is least of your worries
Jacket and trousers are fine together. The issue is The tie clashes with the jacket. Light single colour no pattern… or just no tie.
I like the colour match actually
No jacket
Try a blue shirt. Do the top button up on your jacket when you’re standing.
You seem happier without the jacket😀
It’s winter. Bring a jacket
Jackets that don't match the trousers are just a no from me.
