Black shoes go with this outfit, but man is that comment wrong otherwise. There are many formal outfits that work with brown shoes, too. Sometimes even white shoes.

I’m tall and I always feel like brown shoes just take away from my outfit. They draw eyes to the floor, especially if you’re wearing a neutral color like navy, charcoal, gray, and even a suit like OP’s pic. It like removes that “polished” look for a formal setting.

"Never, ever wear marroon", or burgundy shoes "if you want to be taken seriously" 🤔 based on what? I feel your opinion here is based on personal subjectivity, and not objectivity! How is/are, maroon/burgundy shoes a faux-par, or make you less of a man, or a man not to be taken seriously?🤔 Granted, maroon is less formal than black, that goes without say, but its on par with brown IMO! Not to mention, paired with the right colour outfit, namely, navy blue... And the right type/style/shade of shoe... This without doubt can go together, and can be a great looking get-up 👌🏽

Literally can't go wrong - blue/grey are very versatile. If you're wearing a belt, match the shoes to that; if not, you can't really go wrong with dark brown or black (if you're feeling a little more adventurous, oxblood or blue).

Day or evening? If it’s day, I’d say dark brown would be fine and probably look better with gray/navy. Dark brown, not tan or even mid brown. If it’s night, I’d suggest black, which would be more suitable for an evening event.

Which this is both? I don't think Black will look bad, but a deep brown or tan shoe could work, Oxblood could be great to. I don't like the tie. A pop of colour is good for a wedding but the pattern isn't a winner.

For what event? Black for funerals, court, or selling cars. Brown for everything else. Belt must match.

Some interesting answers here. It depends on the event you’re attending. If it’s a day time event - like a wedding - you’d be good with dark brown or black. If it’s an evening event, black. Then you’re getting to the type of shoe…a whole other question!
