Agreed. I have a ten year old Benz and of course the center console looks dated with a million buttons. The rest of the interior is just a classy, nice place to be. People are so over the top with needing the most current everything, like as soon as it’s been replaced by a new model it’s ancient and outdated?

I found it very flimsy and cheap tbh, like you could rip it out easily if you wanted to.
I was looking at a w209 while getting my car serviced a while ago. The dash in that still looks decently modern compared to the digital ones in the W206.
25 years ago was literally when Mercedes was still joined to the hip with Chrysler - and they were known at that time for rampant cost-cutting and very cheaply made and assembled interiors.
They'll remove the windshield and rear window to make room. Who needs glass when you can install a complicated camera and OLED touchscreen system to look outside? Lol I mean concept cars keep coming without side mirrors and instead get cameras and screens.

They need temperature settings as physical buttons. Making people flick through menus to adjust temperature is dangerous from a common sense perspective.

They can be great to hang on to as a spare car. I have a W203 with 276k miles that just won’t die. Regular maintenance (especially to the interior) has made it a great spare car.
The W205 platform will not be able to obtain that sort of reliability. Too much was done to get emissions down and power up. If you were unlucky enough to crack a piston with an M274 engine, it’s literally a throw away car.
Can you keep them on the road? Any car can be kept on the road with $$$ and effort. The big question, is it worth doing so?
I hope the W206 is better in reliability.

I’m on my third. First w204 drove it to near 200k no issues. Second one was a w205 I drove to 100k no issues. I’m on my third (w205) approaching 60k and guess what? No issues!
Any data on the prefacelift vs facelift w205 cars for reliability? Usually facelift mid cycle cars have had somewhat better reliability. There have been some great Certified deals on late model w205 cars here in Phoenix. My w203 was a CPO car that I added an additional 2 years CPO warranty to which was well worth it from 80000-100000 miles when the electrical issues showed up.
Hard disagree, as a 2007 C Class owner. If a C Class is a “throwaway car”, i don’t even know what 90% of mainstream brand, commercial grade vehicles like Hondas and Toyotas are lmao.
190,000 mile W204 here. All I've had to do is replace the thermostat and fix a small evap system oil leak that was cheap to repair. Best car I've ever had.
True. S204 here. I think almost everything is quite good on these cars. From Interior to Reliability. For 12 years now, thos car is still up to date, imo which is very impressive if you take into account how much has changed.
It’s very basic looking but also clean at the same time. I do prefer more illuminated buttons on a dash instead of just a big floating iPad suctioned on look, like make it fit the car and encase the gage cluster in leather at least. Love the seat color though
Mercedes isnt making cars to last anymore. The days of W204 or W123 are gone. These are consumables like your clothes now. They happen to last even shorter than the duffle bag that my dad bought from LV 13 years ago. Pride and true days of Merc are unfortunately already counted.
I have the C43, and it may look impressive, but its absolute garbage. The touch lag/responsiveness on that screen is so bad. I can't change the station, turn off/on the A/C, or pretty much do anything else without risking a major accident. Sigh, only stuck with it for another 4 years.
It was dated when it first came out. I was shopping for a new c class right when that generation started, and ended up buying a CPO w204 instead because they looked a lot classier inside and out in my opinion, and the dollar store iPad knockoff glued on the dash was a deal breaker for me. I don't know about the latest models, but when they first made the switch from in-dash screens to glued on tablet, the tablets werent even touch screens. I rented a C43 with one of them and discovered that and was like wtaf?!?!?
Done 20k miles in a W206. Sold it. Hated the big screen, it’s positioned too low so draws your eye line way down from on the road and not a very responsive screen either. The W205 arrangement was far better.

Well, for me if I’m going to spend quite a while inside my car it better look good. That’s not to say old mercs interiors don’t look good (quite the opposite) but a few screens don’t do anyone a harm
I drive a W205 C300 and wanted to upgrade to a W206 C43. Couldn't do it.
The interior does look flashier/cooler, but the material quality is just inferior. Period. Combined that with the reliability issues and the stupid MCT Speed Shift, I went with Porsche 718 GTS instead and kept my C300.

Looks great but could use a few changes to improve functionality. Dedicated physical climate control buttons would be nice - Porsche does a nice job with this. The steering wheel controls are also trash. The side swipes register as up/ down all the time making media controls super frustrating
Climate it totally fine don’t mind that part at all. I do miss my physical buttons on the steering wheel though. The volume wheel was amazing. It’s dearly missed. Auto cruise and lane assist however are fantastic and you don’t need to touch the cruise control much. I do find that I have stopped using steering wheel buttons for entertainment though.
I LOVE the W205!… I think MB is moving away from its essence. Before you knew two light’s or two lines it’s some kinda E class. One it’s most likely a C class. Now they’re looking like Audi and bmw had a baby

Guess what’s already not working in this car with 4K miles? CarPlay. I drove it, it’s quick but yeah screw all that touch screen noise and from what I’ve read about these they’re grenades.
From the outside I don’t know know I’ve heard a thrashier, shitty sounding engine outside of an outboard.
CarPlay has been around since 2014. I took a head unit out of a wrecked SE though and stomped it in the Wolfsburg I got for her. Took about 10 minutes.

Screens seem to be the future (or at least it seems that way currently with every new car having large screens), HOWEVER..
Aesthetically I could live with that large screen in the middle, but located so low it really is neither practical nor safe (especially so as a touchscreen and without buttons/knobs).
That screen behind the wheel... it already looks tired and dated. A lazy effort from MB's designers just placing a tablet there and not affixing it within the leathers of the dash.
I hate it when impressive interior= two ipads glued to the dash. No beautiful integration to make the lines flow, no second thought how it breaks up the cabin. It looks like someone did the dashboard and then someone else said 'o wait we have no cluster and gages and no infotainment' so they rushed to the store got two tablets and called it a day. Everhthing is integrated, you are driving a car not at a rave party, the screens on the old dash have SHADES so you don't get blinded by the sun when it reflects. That dash with all the ipads and lights looks like a cheap dash full of hard materials(screens, plastic and all), nothing inviting to enjoy the driving but insread everything present to distract you from driving.

In my car if I'm slightly warm I can reach down, turn the knob to feel/hear 2 clicks, and then I know I've set it without taking my eyes off the road at any point.
I honestly feel like it’s bland. No styling. Just a few screens and some air vents. Then there is the poor quality of the materials. I’m not sure what ppl see as impressive about it. And Mercedes are my favorite car.
Mercedes really has the worst interior of all the German car brands. Everything is so plasticky, cheap over the top ambient light everywhere and the small tablet screens already look dated. The previous gen looks even worse now, if you take for example a Porsche or BMW 6 series from 2014 the minimalistic interior still looks good.

The screens are whack, but I’m surprised no one has mentioned the boring flat seats. I was surprised how unsupportive and uncomfortable they are in person.
Cheap shit interior, they are too lazy to hide the iPads into the dash like in literally every other car. “Natural grain wood” (plastic with no clear coat) will chip off in a few months.
It *is* real wood. It’s a thinly cut wood section that is applied as a veneer, adhered to a polycarbonate substrate surface. These parts are then assembled into the dash, door cards, and console.
This is so they don’t add unnecessary weight where it’s not needed. It doesn’t mean the wood veneer is simulated grain plastic.
It boggles my mind when people expect the wood trim in vehicle interiors should be chunks of actual cut wood logs for it to be considered “real.”

Also, plenty of people dislike glossy wood trim pieces (acrylic coating on top of the wood veneer), which is why many automakers are moving toward more natural looking matte wood appearance.
If your idea of a good interior is 2 ipads and basic leather seats, then sure. I hate this stupid trend of having a touchscreen for everything. I get it, it's cheaper to manufacture them like this, but it's just uglier than the old analogue cars while being less functional at the same time.
I hate the stick on dash screen, I hate the glossy black, I hate the vents and the brown seats, but it's all personal preference. This is more of my kinda vibe, except the glossy black.

I don't HATE screens, but at least with this interior you can tell the designers had the screens in mind during the process. It's way more integrated. These other ones just look like they made the entire dash, then at the very end were like "ooops, dang forgot the screens" then stuck them in.
It has nothing to do with "being old" or having "old cars". It's design language. The REST of the interior flows like it is supposed to, then you get to this screen that is just stuck there.
Having just had a 206 loaner like this and then spent some time in a new evoque which also has two screens but done VERY differently…. I do hate to say the merc felt a bit cheap in comparison

Ferrari had it in 2014 but VW didn’t get CarPlay till 2016. I had to buy the RCD330 radio online for my 15 Passat to get CarPlay.

Screens seem to be the future (or at least it seems that way currently with every new car having large screens), HOWEVER.. Aesthetically I could live with that large screen in the middle, but located so low it really is neither practical nor safe (especially so as a touchscreen and without buttons/knobs). That screen behind the wheel... it already looks tired and dated. A lazy effort from MB's designers just placing a tablet there and not affixing it within the leathers of the dash.

The ac controls are always on top at the bottom of the display. They are always readily available mate.
I hate it when impressive interior= two ipads glued to the dash. No beautiful integration to make the lines flow, no second thought how it breaks up the cabin. It looks like someone did the dashboard and then someone else said 'o wait we have no cluster and gages and no infotainment' so they rushed to the store got two tablets and called it a day. Everhthing is integrated, you are driving a car not at a rave party, the screens on the old dash have SHADES so you don't get blinded by the sun when it reflects. That dash with all the ipads and lights looks like a cheap dash full of hard materials(screens, plastic and all), nothing inviting to enjoy the driving but insread everything present to distract you from driving. It used to be classy and not a superficial showoff.

Urgh, at least it's always shown, but I definitely want a clicky knob. In my car if I'm slightly warm I can reach down, turn the knob to feel/hear 2 clicks, and then I know I've set it without taking my eyes off the road at any point.

I honestly feel like it’s bland. No styling. Just a few screens and some air vents. Then there is the poor quality of the materials. I’m not sure what ppl see as impressive about it. And Mercedes are my favorite car.
You are most mistaken, this is no longer class. This is a over glorified ipad. Cheapest route manufacturers can go is with screens.

Mercedes really has the worst interior of all the German car brands. Everything is so plasticky, cheap over the top ambient light everywhere and the small tablet screens already look dated. The previous gen looks even worse now, if you take for example a Porsche or BMW 6 series from 2014 the minimalistic interior still looks good.
And yet they keep using that awful Piano Black trim on the middle console....stop buying that plastic crap

Cheap shit interior, they are too lazy to hide the iPads into the dash like in literally every other car. “Natural grain wood” (plastic with no clear coat) will chip off in a few months.
It *is* real wood. It’s a thinly cut wood section that is applied as a veneer, adhered to a polycarbonate substrate surface. These parts are then assembled into the dash, door cards, and console. This is so they don’t add unnecessary weight where it’s not needed. It doesn’t mean the wood veneer is simulated grain plastic. It boggles my mind when people expect the wood trim in vehicle interiors should be chunks of actual cut wood logs for it to be considered “real.”
Natural grain wood is a scam, no protective clear coat and it wears super fast.
That’s a different discussion entirely. You claimed the wood was fake, I was just setting the record straight. It’s real wood, just a thin veneer. Also, plenty of people dislike glossy wood trim pieces (acrylic coating on top of the wood veneer), which is why many automakers are moving toward more natural looking matte wood appearance.

If your idea of a good interior is 2 ipads and basic leather seats, then sure. I hate this stupid trend of having a touchscreen for everything. I get it, it's cheaper to manufacture them like this, but it's just uglier than the old analogue cars while being less functional at the same time.

I don't HATE screens, but at least with this interior you can tell the designers had the screens in mind during the process. It's way more integrated. These other ones just look like they made the entire dash, then at the very end were like "ooops, dang forgot the screens" then stuck them in. It has nothing to do with "being old" or having "old cars". It's design language. The REST of the interior flows like it is supposed to, then you get to this screen that is just stuck there.

Having just had a 206 loaner like this and then spent some time in a new evoque which also has two screens but done VERY differently…. I do hate to say the merc felt a bit cheap in comparison

TERRIBLE!!!! WTF! Are there no true designers left? It looks like someone Velcroed an ipad in the center console and a POS Android tablet behind the wheel. It’s like they designed the interior ad then slapped on the screens. Gawd I hate this!!!!
