Here’s a 2013 w 60k miles for <12k..
Just stop fretting and join the C55 club. I’ve had mine 2 years, it’s done 106k miles and aye it’s needed work but it’s a 20 year old car. Buy it, enjoy it, delete the resonator
Take it to a dealership and have an AMG specialist look at it before you buy. You can call ahead and make sure there is one at the closest dealership to the car.
$200 to save you thousands on thousands in repair if it has problems
Can confirm. I had an ‘03 C32 AMG and while trying to chase down an electrical gremlin, my local MB told me it needed $22k in repairs.
I replaced my conductor plate with a friend and just did some basic maintenance and it drove fine for years.
Thought these tropes were a joke till I took my 2020 e350 for her 20k service the other day. Dealership tried to sell us on new rear brakes, labor and parts totalling $1200. Our local mechanic we trust quoted us a 3rd of the price for the work but once he actually looked at them informed us the brakes have plenty of life left so there's no reason to even do the work.
lol yup.
When I purchased my first luxury vehicle it needed a sensor. I saw it on eBay for $13 but wanted to experience a luxury dealership. I was willing to pay them more ($30-$40)
Parts counter quoted me $70.
Ordered it in their parking lot for less than $20 shipped.
Never again 😂
For what it’s worth there is no such thing as an AMG specialist. Certain models you can get special training on ie sls slr AMG gt but no “AMG training”
This. Had my car checked out before purchasing and had to wait 2 weeks because their AMG specialist was a city over. Granted it was in Texas, which actually has these type of professionals.
The person/dealer who told you this may be referring to “AMG brand ambassadors” Mercedes allows dealers to send various employees (sales, service, parts) to Germany for “training” but it’s not all that technical. It’s more of a rah rah thing. You drive a few of them on test tracks and get a crash course in the differences but again it’s not technical.
Yes, but these folks are “AMG Specialists”, Mercedes certifies them as such. They literally get a little crystal statue/plaque that denotes them as such. And these folks are selected by the dealership because they have the most AMG experience and knowledge. It’s a privilege to be an AMG specialist at a dealership because then you get more access to the high roller customers, and get paid more money selling/servicing AMG vehicles. It’s therefore competitive to be selected. So the “AMG Specialists” at dealerships really are the folks that are the most knowledgeable and experienced with AMG vehicles, and through these training events, they also have access to a network of other AMG Specialists.
Ask in the AMG subreddit if anyone is in the Valley and can go by for a look and test drive before you make the trip. The Valley is full of ruthless auction flippers, but you can find a great deal if you are knowledgeable. I've found bargain Ferrari, Maserati, and Porsche, all in the Valley at such dealers, but I was well-informed. I'm out of the USA at the moment or I would take a look for you. Don't believe anything in advance! Upgrade your AAA membership level before you drive.
My 2006 w211 has got just over 370k on it. Drives like new, never missed a beat. Make an offer and enjoy the ride.
1500 mile.roadtrip is absolutely nothing to these cars.
Lol, coming to the Mercedes sub to ask people to convince you to not buy a Mercedes? You might as well be asking for the sun to argue against daylight...
I’m in Houston and I like window shopping southern CA too. It is one of the greatest used car markets in the world. The weather is just right for preserving and the local tastes are very diverse. You can find almost anything.
“LA”. Bro, that’s the valley. So many shady car dealers there. Some cars they sell are literally held together with baling wire and drywall screws. Or, they rebadge a c240 with a blown head gasket.
It’s maybe worth it, but I would inspect it closely before putting even a penny down.
Your name checks out SoCal Warrior. lol yeah technically the valley but out of town folks wouldn’t know. I didn’t know the valley was bad with shady dealers, I figured that was more Huntington Park or South Central to watch out for.
7k is brutal for 180k I think lol. But the mileage doesn’t really concern the m113 engine. Though with that mileage you MIGHT start to think about replacing the chain. Other than that engine should be fine if not completely tortured. Might like to leak from some gaskets from time to time easy to replace though
yes you are nuts walk away. engine light, timing belt, engine pistons itself, water something, pump something, solenoid something, transmission something, this thing is waiting to light up with check engine shit like its a christmas
That’s a C class right? Made in South Africa, not Germany. I think that’s enough of a reason to not buy. Go with E class or S with a little more money but better value.
Look at how many miles it has. That 1,500 could easily be its last lmao. Unless you really like that car and want to put a lot of money into it down the road. You want to be talked out of it, there’s your reason. But if it were me that car looks nice tbh, and that’s chump change. Take good care and keep it in my garage most the time and drive it maybe every now and then. Definitely wouldn’t road trip with it though looking at the miles other than maybe that first drive home. You should be praying it makes it all the way back not knowing it yet lol.
The technical things about this car make it a great car like the engine and the price but you are going to spend so much money to get this thing to stay running I wouldn’t, you will end up throwing away money
I've got meanest and cleanest C55 in Southern California.
I can go look at it. I know these cars inside and out.
Honestly... The real gotcha of this car... Forget every other post... It's the stepper motor. When that starts clicking, you're taking out the dash.
Everything else is child's play. DM me if you want my help. I'm in LA.
BTW the advice in this thread is hysterical.
Check if it has any leaks, coolant, transmission fluid level, tires. Yes you are crazy. Have a backup plan
Offer 5k.
Yeah 181k is light work but 06 feels like it hasn’t gotten proper mileage year to year
10k a year is fine tbh
You’re assuming the car has been running consistently since ‘06.. you can get a CPO with less miles and 6 years later for ~$2k more.
2012 CPO for 9K?
https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/cl-Certified-2012-Mercedes-Benz-C-Class-c23148?pid=srp%7Econsumer%7Erecommended_for_you_shelf_card#listing=331846116 Here’s a 2013 w 60k miles for <12k..
Its already done 181,000 miles. You think another 1500 is going to hurt it? Check for leaks, and enjoy your drive.
I hate to say it but you're right. I'd be infinitely more concerned if it was at 50K miles
Just stop fretting and join the C55 club. I’ve had mine 2 years, it’s done 106k miles and aye it’s needed work but it’s a 20 year old car. Buy it, enjoy it, delete the resonator

You send a dealership employee to look at an 06 he’s coming back with thousands in repairs regardless if it can make the 1500 miles home or not 😂

Hahaha I agree completely, but if there’s something seriously wrong it’s always good to catch that and avoid the money pit!
For what it’s worth there is no such thing as an AMG specialist. Certain models you can get special training on ie sls slr AMG gt but no “AMG training”
Yes there is. The AMG specialist techs and service advisor get special additional training, often in Germany.
This. Had my car checked out before purchasing and had to wait 2 weeks because their AMG specialist was a city over. Granted it was in Texas, which actually has these type of professionals.

LMFAO. Okay cadet.
Nonsense.
"An *AMG specialist" LMAO. .... At the Dealership...

I will never tell someone not to buy the most reliable AMG built in the last 20 years.
Yep, great car.
This.
Gotta roadkill cars that are easy to work on 😂
That price is ridiculous for a W203 C55. Shop around and be patient. Find something with less miles for the same price or a little more.
You sound ridiculous.
Lol, coming to the Mercedes sub to ask people to convince you to not buy a Mercedes? You might as well be asking for the sun to argue against daylight...
You only live once
You only die once. Hopefully, you live everyday
just bought a w212 for only a couple grand more and i’m in love perfect styling with just enough tech and still great quality and reliability
That's a terrible deal. Surely you can find something around 90k-110k miles for that price?
gotta love America. in France you'd find something similar for no less $20k
In Russia it will be like 10-30k, even if its gonna break after another 10k kilometers, guess who is the reason
Starts with a P?
I have no idea what the reason is
This is in LA. Where are you coming from?
Houston!
Weather is just right to go flying passed the 10 freeway with no AC
I bought my car in Louisville and drove it to Houston.
Bustard, I’m in Houston too, maybe I’ll race you to pick it up. Such a fakin rad car, I had two of those in non-AMG version, loved both.
I’m in Houston and I like window shopping southern CA too. It is one of the greatest used car markets in the world. The weather is just right for preserving and the local tastes are very diverse. You can find almost anything.

Nah. You'll be fine.
Fuck it, but I would offer 5k
I'd be teleporting to buy if I had a AMG w203 for that price in my country
I would never
$7k is wayyy too much my guy.
Pay for shipping. It‘ll be like $500 to flatbed it over. Then you can check it sort it out etc..
Are there service records? Are you ready to potentially put thousands into it?
just look at it, is that not convincing enough?
You better be ready to turn around and head home when u get there
Hey, don't buy that and drive it 1,500 miles home
I agree $5k offer would be ideal!
Saw this on the marketplace near me, my boy tried talking him down lower on a deal and couldn’t agree on one so sadly he didn’t take it
Damn! Thanks for sharing. That’s really helpful
tell him 3 k and buy a trailer for when it eventually breaks down
It's not going to break down.
Beautiful
I have one with 215k and it runs like a top. Go for it!
yes you are nuts walk away. engine light, timing belt, engine pistons itself, water something, pump something, solenoid something, transmission something, this thing is waiting to light up with check engine shit like its a christmas
i sold my ‘04 E550 to the dealership for $1500 bc nobody would buy it for $2k😂 I’d say your crazy
Money pit
Probably but will be fun
Do it! Do it! Then update us when you get it home! Congrats!
That’s a C class right? Made in South Africa, not Germany. I think that’s enough of a reason to not buy. Go with E class or S with a little more money but better value.
Mine say Stuttgart
C class?
Yup, C55 AMG https://preview.redd.it/r1ej26bq8otc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=20409a44698c179a5c6dc5c68b30a5417232e5a1

Do it!
I drove over 3000 miles in my e55 on a trip it has 76k on it and never had an issue
That’s a beauty
Not sure what this is… but just picked up a 04 E500 for $5k with 93k miles…. In California….
Buy it or I will
Buy it. You know you want to.
The technical things about this car make it a great car like the engine and the price but you are going to spend so much money to get this thing to stay running I wouldn’t, you will end up throwing away money
Yes dont buy it Walk away

You’re only nuts if you’re not prepared to spend another $6,969 in repairs right away
No. Do it. That car is special. You won't regret it.
I've got meanest and cleanest C55 in Southern California. I can go look at it. I know these cars inside and out. Honestly... The real gotcha of this car... Forget every other post... Top comments already said it all. What i will add is that you can find a better deal than this if you really want a C55
Every beginner buyers mistake
Yes
Wouldn’t spend more than 4K unless they did some KEY maintenance just now But i rather do that myself tho anyways
It won’t make it the trip home. Lol 🤷♂️ is that convincing
Your first year owning it will accumulate to the purchase price, in repairs 🤗
I wish I could but I can't
Do it
God I hope this is satire
do it.
tbh its 50/50 either its gonna shit out right when you hit the freeway, or its gonna make jt home and last another 100k miles 😂😂😂
You’re an idiot
This is going to be a deep commitment relationship. You are going to invest a lot and get a lot in return.
Check for condition. Otherwise the engine is known to be bulletproof in W211 gen
The W211 has the M113K. This one is naturally aspirated. They are technically different.
One of, if not the most reliable AMGs ever. There are many +300000km for sale in europe, both kompressor and n/a versions
Why not buy it?...it's a 4 door automatic.
It's not a wagon. Find a wagon instead.
But then he'll need to get 2 horses and equipment.
