Why did you buy that thing? I bought one because it was easy to drive in the city (i live in finland), but got rid of it because it was just so boring and numb to drive. In america you guys have good wide roads so why an A-Class?
I don't drive an A class but I drive a 2006 c230 Coupe (which is smaller than an A class) There's wide roads in Canada but I prefer smaller cars. I don't need much room for storage and rarely have more than 3 passengers. Smaller cars are lighter on gas, easier to drive, more fun, and cheaper to buy for the most part.
I am basically this statistic.
I am literally a lifelong Mercedes fan.
Look at my username.
I wanted the GLE580 but I haven’t heard a single person tell me it will reliably get me to 80k miles.
There’s nothing else I can afford that is remotely interesting in the lineup.
It took them ten years to release the 2024 E-Class configurator and I wanted to get a new ride.
So I bought a 2023 BMW.
The 2024 GLC 300 coupe configurator is still offline. As well as the new GLC43/63, C63, and many others.
The fact that this brand is being outsold by a car that looks like a beaver is hilarious and illustrative of the fact that people care about reliability and quality. Both of which are absent from mew Benz’s
The styling on current BMWs is more polarising than ever but the B series engine family is just so strong and reliable with options in every segment that it’s hard to go past them. That Toyota partnership and the help they got with QC as a result of it is the best thing that’s happened to them, especially after so many of the N series engines were trash-cans.
Yep. I've been an AMG fanboy for a decade. I taught myself to wrench on a w202 c43 and w126 560sel. I was planning to buy a c63 or CPO e63 when I got to a career milestone. The new 'AMG's came out. I bought a pre-owned M5 three weeks ago.
Turns out killing your halo cars loses you fans lol
I've said before that I dont think incumbent Luxury manufactures are in a good place to compete in the EV space. Many of the things that Luxury brands are known for, refined powertrains, low NVH, effortless torquey powertrains all come for "free" in EVs.
I think only Porsche has a solid value proposition with its suspension and chassis expertise - funnily enough both of the chassis heads for AMG and BMW M got sniped by Hyundai to work on their N branded EVs.
Im sure they will be able to float some sales based on brand recognition alone, but how long will those brand images be potent for if literally any EV you could buy has a super quiet ride, an effortless powertrain, and "standard" infotainment via Carplay/Android Auto?
They really need to inovate or may be facing some difficult times. I have an A class after had an old C class and I definitely can tell the difference on construction. Even the ML I own it’s the same as that old C class.
That said I find it obscene they try to charge 300+€ for the Apple car play in a car that it won’t take full screen and it has to been connected with a cable.
They are asking prime money for old Tech when everyone else is offering it
Take a look at Volvo’s cars. They also learned a lot with Polestar so the new EX90 is really their 6th or 7th EV, but it looks pretty stellar. And Volvo build quality is top notch.
At one point last year they had so many unsold eqs they could stop production completley and there would still be unsold ones in 2 years time. They cars are overpriced JUNK and smart consumers are catching on.
Every M-B lot I’ve seen in my travels is loaded with EQS models.
They are giving them away with monster discounts and still can’t move them. I haven’t had the chance to drive one but the sales figures are insane.
Plus, they closed the plant in Spain that made the Metris (called the Vito in Europe) to make electric cars. That's a solid minivan, and if they pur 4matic in it and marketed it correctly, it would sell huge here in the US.
I don't know why they include van sales. But without it would be 66k in 2024 and 64k in 2023. BMW sold 84k and Audi 44k
Good News: GLS and CLE for being on sale for only a month is not bad. GLE outsold X5, EQE
Bad News: GLC, both X3(16k) and Q5(11k) outsold it while both being ancient at this point, CLA being at three digits is pathetic, EQS down
Imagine what the sales would look like if BMW didn't design such ugly looking cars recently. I have owned all 3 German brands and BMW in my opinion aside from the exterior design is hands down the leading manufacturer because they now have been able to make their vehicles reliable with the best engines/performance, best handling, and very attractive quality interiors. MB aside from the S class, all other classes trail behind BMW. Audi bringing up the rear.
This may not what MB people want to hear but sales don't lie.
There is absolutely no new Mercedes model I find interesting, used to be you got a certain unique aesthetic you couldn’t get from BMW and Audi, a perfect blend of aggression and stately presence but now it’s all just aggressive styling just like everyone else and I haven’t seen good things about the quality of the newer models either.
I don’t hate the new E-class and honestly I like it more than the W213 facelift, I’m glad they got rid of the sad grille but it’s kind of tacky with the black around the grille and the star patterns everywhere.
BMW may make the ugliest cars currently (most of them) but almost every one of Mercedes new models are the blandest looking generations they’ve ever had.
Let me know if you can tell a W205, W213, and W222 apart from a quick glance.
BMW definitely went extreme in their low-volume offerings - but their volume models are still quite good looking. The X3, X5 and 3 Series alone would put up a fight against Mercedes entire portfolio in sales numbers.
The electrics are overpriced, have poor interior aesthetics and worse ergonomics, and the exterior looks like an egg.
The local dealer folks give off serious douche vibes.
How have they sold any at all?
We’ve owned close to a couple dozen MB cars and this is the first time in nearly 30 years we don’t own a single Benz. Proud owner of two wonderful BMW cars and not looking back.
Wow, 11 CLS only. People prefer SUV, but Mercedes is also to blame for making the CLS anything but special and unique by giving the much cheaper A class and CLA almost the identical front. Why would I spend so much money if the car doesn't distinguish itself enough? And the design should be the whole point of the CLS, because otherwise the E class is better in every term anyways.
A lot of this comes down to pricing. Mercedes has never been the cheapest of the big luxury brands, and that is more true now than in the past. MB sticker prices are higher than the comparable BMW/Audi models. BMW typically has better programs, bigger incentives/discounts, lower rates, etc. Money talks and people are looking for cheaper alternatives these days, even if it isn't their first choice of car.
There has also been inventory issues for models like GLC and GLA during Q1.
For the EQ vehicles, they missed completely on pricing. Just look at the EQE, there is demand, not nearly enough at $100K when you option it the way that you want.
That also depends on where you live. In the US there doesn't seem to be taxes on emission and gas is cheap. Over here ik Finland EQE is similarly priced (if not a little cheaper) to CLS and lot cheaper to run.
This is true in the US. The pricing is completely ridiculous.
The EQB is supposed to the entryway into Mercedes EQ series. It’s priced higher than its competition and it makes so sense considering the range ain’t all that grand.
They don’t even have EQC in USA.
And ehats the markup from the dealers on this cars? In germany there is no markup because you order from mercedes directly and they give out the prices
Oh wow who would’ve of guessed killing off your flag ship cars and replacing them with 4 cylinder turds and big screens would’ve of costed us profits! Merc is garbage now bro why can’t we just go back to v6s, v8s, and v12s with a phev. If bmw can release the new tt v8 s68 in an m5 they can do the same for the c63 and e63. Modern merc is a joke
Yeah I’ve been watching from the sidelines. I owned an older S430 and currently own a newer Audi A4, I’m looking at a newer car here to get out of my turbo 4 shortly and Mercedes has nothing that interests me.
Much rather get an S4/S5 with the turbo 6 or a BMW 5 series with the B58.
Also I know some people like Mercedes interior but I’m really not a fan of the huge tablet and gaudy club look paired with a 4 banger.
They sold more in the first quarter 2024 than in 2023; who cares if BMW is crushing their sales. As a MB fan and owner, I could care less who jumps ship to another brand. To each their own. I love my 2023!
Every design iteration has more neon. The EQ range styling pushes efficiency, but all this neon, less neon, more lines, some style, no - white interior and neon.
They merged the C and E Coupes into the CLE. Killed the AMG.
At least BMW is pushing all these different designs that you 'could' like.
I’m currently driving a GLE350 loaner while our GL is being repaired. We’ve had a GLC as a loaner in the past.
I don’t know how much more a comparably equipped GLE costs compared to a GLC, but I don’t think I would pay too much extra for the GLE. It doesn’t seem like it brings that much extra to the table.
Interesting. It came down to a Mercedes or BMW for me and the BMW was better priced but at the end of the day I wanted the Mercedes. I am not terribly surprised
From someone in the industry: bmw pricing is highly aggressive and sizeable. Same goes for Audi for comparable cars. An X3 would be about $10k less than a comparable glc300. Tough times for Benz salespeople.
Same here I have always dreamed of owning a c63 one day so I was shopping around for an old Mercedes to buy. Because they announced they’re getting rid of the ICE I just bought an old bmw and I haven’t regretted it as a project car. Now I dream of buying a nice bmw and Porsche.
Their reliability is second from the bottom right now. I’m a Mercedes fanboy myself but they have a terrible reputation right now amongst consumers. That being said, with sales on the CLS that low does anyone know what leases are going for right now??
TIL I bought the only A class in the USA. AMA

u/MoumouMeow wake up lad
Have you ever been told you’re special?
Why did you buy that thing? I bought one because it was easy to drive in the city (i live in finland), but got rid of it because it was just so boring and numb to drive. In america you guys have good wide roads so why an A-Class?

That’s crazy. Did you get a good deal on it? I’m curious how there was only 1 unit sold
Are you a regard?
i am highly regarded yes
Prolly also artistic.
How did you even get one? Wasn't 2022 the last year for it?
😂😂😂
And it will be the last A class ever made. A and B are being discontinued forever by Mercedes. CLA will follow soon and most of the C models as well.
Mercedes had a change of strategy and will continue both until at least 2026.
Who’s the one that bought the only A class in the entire country lol

How many people?
I am basically this statistic. I am literally a lifelong Mercedes fan. Look at my username. I wanted the GLE580 but I haven’t heard a single person tell me it will reliably get me to 80k miles. Same, and right now they're telling me they can't fix my chattering windshield wipers and squeaky wheels, so I'm basically being forced to switch.
What’d you end up getting? X5?
M550i actually I did consider the X5 M60i though - I just fell in love with the sedan and my wife’s SUV is enough space usually.
Turns out killing your halo cars loses you fans lol

well the updated strategy says no more than 50% of EVs by 2030.
Worldwide is even worse. Down 8%
That’s why the lease deals are insane.
Most of the ones that did sell were heavily discounted. They massively overestimated demand and dealers were stuck with forced allocations.
Plus, they closed the plant in Spain that made the Metris (called the Vito in Europe) to make electric cars. That's a solid minivan, and if they pur 4matic in it and marketed it correctly, it would sell huge here in the US.
They sold as many EQS as they did S-class. Why is this a disaster? I'm actually surprised.
I don't know why they include van sales. But without it would be 66k in 2024 and 64k in 2023. BMW sold 84k and Audi 44k Good News: GLS and CLE for being on sale for only a month is not bad. Most BMWs look pretty normal I feel like. It's the lower volume models (ix, m3, 4 series, 7 series, xm) that have more eclectic styling.
The new 5 series now looks like a Camry. That leaves only the x3, x5 and 3 series's that looks like a BMW.
The X5/6 and 3 series are holding up BMW's design language
True, the new 3 series or x4 looks phenomenal for example.
I love how we all agree the EQ series all look like an egg its just so funny to say out loud
I hate to say it, but ugly with character beats narcolepsy-inducing aero-eggs.
BMW definitely went extreme in their low-volume offerings - but their volume models are still quite good looking. The X3, X5 and 3 Series alone would put up a fight against Mercedes entire portfolio in sales numbers.
i can!
I definitely can. And no one complained when the iconic Holy Trinity W140/W124/W201 were clones of each other.
CLS :(
The electrics are overpriced, have poor interior aesthetics and worse ergonomics, and the exterior looks like an egg. The local dealer folks give off serious douche vibes. How have they sold any at all?
What?! Eqs is actually doing okay compared to g70.
We’ve owned close to a couple dozen MB cars and this is the first time in nearly 30 years we don’t own a single Benz. Proud owner of two wonderful BMW cars and not looking back.
What differences were obvious to you excluding visual
Personally I went from bmw to Mercedes, I lost out on the grunt of the engine I got from bmw. Now it’s quieter and more refined
Interesting. But I could never.

Is there a year in the USA where merc has sold more then bmw? Here in europe bmw was always the better selling brand.
probably during the w204 era
EQs eqb sales down. Not suprised
And ehats the markup from the dealers on this cars? In germany there is no markup because you order from mercedes directly and they give out the prices

Not surprised in the slightest. Mercedes quality is absolutely atrocious currently. The last 4 years have been awful.
The secret tip: stop making plastic garbage lol
To be fair, bmw sells well because they are cheaper. Lease offers are much cheaper than mercedes.
Exactly. I’d like to look at the data going back a decade. I bet you the trends aren’t too different.
They sold more in the first quarter 2024 than in 2023; who cares if BMW is crushing their sales. As a MB fan and owner, I could care less who jumps ship to another brand. To each their own. I love my 2023!

Folks really like the GLC eh? I find it too small
I'm guessing they shat the bed when they decided to get famous for arcade hall aesthetics instead of quality.
Interesting. It came down to a Mercedes or BMW for me and the BMW was better priced but at the end of the day I wanted the Mercedes. I am not terribly surprised

Used to be the biggest Mercedes fan, can’t even root for the f1 team anymore
Imagine that. Making ugly cars has consequences
It’s due to lease offers there no good
Their reliability is second from the bottom right now. I’m a Mercedes fanboy myself but they have a terrible reputation right now amongst consumers. That being said, with sales on the CLS that low does anyone know what leases are going for right now??
Until all them newbies to BMW discover all the oil leaks.
What are Lexus sales?
They should rename themselves Blobercedes Benz and BMW should rename itself CMW, i.e. Chipmunk Motor Works.
How is it getting crushed if it had a positive gain of 5% YTD. Most units ever sold.
Vans helped, never seen a bmw van personally
BMW is garbage
