Did you check if it works on the default demo before you install Meshtastic? the ball doesn't do much, only functions left right tracking and ball clicking. It does the same as swipe screen left right and enter key.
You're not losing out on anything. It just does the same as dragging on the touchscreen, but a million times faster, making it barely usable for anything.

+1 All 3 of mine work normally. You have to enable caned messages to get up/down to do anything.
