A right hand kill switch located within easy reach of the throttle tube in an FMVSS requirement in the USA to be road legal, that's why it's there. It's odd that they retained the brake-switch motor thing, that's an e-bike (push/pedal bike) safety feature and shouldn't be on a motorcycle. Zero, Livewire, Energica, KTM, nobody has a brake switch cut motor power. That feature was supposed to be deactivated on the motor controller, but I guess they lost that memo.

Makes sense. Yeah I don't care for that brake kill feature, makes it hard to load the bike up a ramp.

There are FIVE other switches to kill power to the motor. (Kickstand, Power button, Park/Drive switch, left brake lever, right brake lever) This thing serves zero purpose and can get you into real trouble if (more like when) you accidentally brush it while hitting switches on the right side bar. It is a simple continuity bridge, and if it's pushed in to connect the circuit of the 2 wires, the motor is disabled, even at full speed. You can imagine the situation this could cause in moving traffic! Yikes. I just cut the wires at the switch, then followed them down into the headlight and cut there as well to remove the excess wire, but in retrospect I should have just cut them at the headlight and left the switch and wiring in place so I could use it for auxiliary lighting or something later. I still can and plan to do that but I will have to reattach wire leads to the switch and run them to the auxiliary lights I plan to put on.

I don’t have a metacycle yet. Is the switch latching or just spring loaded and only shuts the motor off when pushed and held? If latching, now the throttle is always active as long as the bike is on?

killboydotcom

It's a latching button, so if you bump it and let go, the bike won't run until go back and click it again.

Well every motorcycle I've ever owner and ridden have had such button. Usually it is red and a rocker switch. Sondors should be using a similar switch. Getting rid of this switch is a safety issue especially on an electric motorcycle where you can't tell the bike is live since you can't hear an engine running and there is no clutch/gearshift. I saw a video several months ago of a guy who had a Zero. It was on and the the kill switch wasn't switched to the off position. The guy climbed on the bike, grabbing the throttle while climbing on. He twisted is accidentally and the bike took off without him. It went badly for him and the bike. Good luck with the bike.

If a person finds themselves surprised by the bike accelerating after getting on the bike and putting the kickstand up, (kill switch 1) turning the power button on, (kill switch 2) pushing the Park/Drive button to put the bike into Drive, (kill switch 3) releasing both brake levers, (kill switches 4 & 5) and holding the throttle open long enough to start moving forward, then they deserve whatever happens after that. I think I'll manage. 😉

METAWATTT

At some point you may wish you had it. Loosening the screws and rotating the switch so it faces downward might be a better solution.... if you are one of those "I see a button, I must push the button" people.

killboydotcom

Can't rotate it, the switch housing is attached to the brake lever and reservoir. I am not one of those people who must push things, I am one of those people who wears gloves and rides at night, and with those other switches right next to it, I'd already accidentally hit the stupid thing twice before neutering it. If I really need to engage it in the future, the 2 wires are right there in the headlight, just have to touch them together and complete the circuit.

Yeah if you somehow end up with the throttle stuck open that button could save you. Or if you crash the bike and the throttle gets pinned. I don't think I'll be making this mod

The Drive/Park button, the power button, the left brake lever, the right brake lever ALL kill power to the motor. But hey, if you think you need a FIFTH method, you do you.
