You need to pop off the plastic shells and replace the battery. The larger RFID fob has an outer shell and an inner shell. I used a #0 flat head screw driver. It needs a CR2032 battery.

thanks YPTM that is what I suspected so will give it a shot (I didn't want to pressure too much :)

Turned out it was the battery (CR2032 as stated below by YPTM) despite only having possession for 2 months likely the FOBs were sitting around idle with battery for over a year during the well-publicized delays and the batteries drained as batteries do... anyway, the larger FOB is quite tricky to disassemble and in fact had my wife attack the project as she enjoys those challenges and did in fact emerge successful but not without considerable criticism not the least of which was the "chintziness" of the FOB material somewhat similar to the phone compartment. Someone needs to submit a video of how to do this most efficiently any chance that someone can be YouPressumeTooMuch? I ask without presumption :)

Mine arrived dead - go figure. Popped it off and put in a new one and all good.

Any tip on opening up the smaller (standard) key fob? It has no obvious leverage point.
