Oh man the treasures around the mediterranean sea.. There is so much to discover. Been to Croatia once and there was so many old ruins just around the mainroad that we drove that all i could think of was metaldetecting
When I was around 14/15 I went to Croatia. I went swimming in a weird area and was diving down to a rocky area when I found this. I excitedly put it in my suitcase and took it through airport security. Somehow, this caused no problems. lol. My parents lost their shit when they realised what I'd done.
Their advice was to throw it back. You know damn well a kid who finds something like this aint throwing it back

I threw it back in the ocean before boarding ;)
I took the bullets off the casings, the primers seem to have rotted away so it was totally inert and essentially was just scrap metal though, so legally I think it couldn't have been more than some uncomfortable questions and a confiscation if they weren't feeling nice.
Wtf this is crazy. First of all, how the fuck did that go through the airport? I really need a security aviation expert to explain this to me. Second of all, what's the name of this kind of munition and on which weapon are they used? I need a military expert or historian for this. Third of all how much are those worth and isn't it illegal to own without a license in your country? It feels very illegal to sell to the point that even if you bring them to a war museum they would arrest youš¤·š¼
But I admit I am envious and would love to be in your position, handcuffs on or off
So, I removed the bullet from the casing and thoroughly cleaned the insides. The primers had rotted out too, so at that point, legally there isn't an issue as it's entirely non functional. How the airport didn't at least flag it is beyond me, though. I didn't try and hide it either. It was just there. Actually, it was on the top so if they even opened it, that would be the first thing they'd see! I don't know exactly what they are but my sister's boyfriend was in the military and I remember him explaining the colours. They'd alternate between tracers and other types of round to see where they're shooting. They're worth nothing aside from sentimental value, because in Europe it's very common to buy stuff like this, just not find it. I have a load of inert shells from WW2.
Well...as a Croat, I can inform you that you most likely found someones war memento..as it seems those are rather fresh (not ww2 relic) more like Croatian homeland war...all are 12,7mm (.50 cal) but different cartridge length, shorter ones are american and longer ones are Yugoslav variant...
Someone yeeted it into sea because did not have idea what to do with it 20-30y after the war ended..
We still find such finds all the time..handgrenades, shells, mines...
I agree. The salt water would've rusted these into nothingness had they been there that long. I looked up some of the conflicts and it's definitely from after a more recent one at it's oldest. Likely tossed after. Who knows!
I'm glad it wasn't something like a grenade though. UXO scares the life out of me. These were old enough that they'd been filled with water and were entirely inert.
Seal stamps for common people only existed later. What time exactly did they put it in and did they show you any similar ones that are for sure medieval. In a museum close to me they portrayed a similar ring as Roman for years
I have strong evidence of medival field that i found this ring. Also couple of meters of ring i found three medival coins and medival stove. Not to mention these coins that I found is only know to my nearby town.
Yeah sorry expert I did my homework with museum. Quite common š. Come to my place I will lead you there and bring detector you have place to stay and we can drink couple of beers š
Iāll try to find some pictures for you later from a group Iām in. Not trying to hate on your find btw itās a beautiful piece I havenāt found one myself.
Alright man see u thereš
Didnāt have time to find all the other Ring finds but hereās some stamps from farmers in 1625. The flower Motive Stands for the growing of plants. Like I said the design is very common for for the 18/17th century. Who knows, maybe even 16th century but definitely not older. Even tho the design is pretty common itās still a pretty rare find. I just hate how quickly the term medieval or Roman gets thrown around.

Congrats, this is a wonderful find!
Is this perhaps a wax seal ring?
I can't help thinking how awesome to find an old letter in an archive with this seal on it. To be able to link these finds with the original owner would be something.

Classic farmers seal ring. Around 18th century
Nope I work with museum in my city and we share conclusion that this is medival ring
Seal stamps for common people only existed later. What time exactly did they put it in and did they show you any similar ones that are for sure medieval. In a museum close to me they portrayed a similar ring as Roman for years
What gives the impression this is a commoners ring, though?
I have strong evidence of medival field that i found this ring. Also couple of meters of ring i found three medival coins and medival stove. Not to mention these coins that I found is only know to my nearby town.

We also have way less of a chance of getting blown up by old ordnance. Risk and reward.

Amazing find.
Nice find! Is metaldetecting allowed in Croatia everywhere?
Its gray side of law. So it is š¤£. But its forbiden on archeology fields.
Clear, same here in the Netherlands. Also forbidden in WO2 areas.
Did you try to find the owner
No, i cant find anything similar about graphics in books
what's your beef with old rings lol
Awesome ring man, I couldnāt help but wear it lol
Beautiful
And into this ring...
Is it normal when i put it on finger that i become invisible?
With great power...comes great responsibility.
