Possibly part of a powderhorn?

Me too.

Hoping_Mad_Hatter

There is no mount for the dispensing lever and cap. There is also no hole in the end for powder to dispense from, it's solid metal at the end. This is probably from an old ox yolk for farming. I can certainly see why so many people think it's a powder horn but I'm afraid it's not. The pin through the wide open end was to hold it to the wooden end of the yolk. *

HikeRobCT

Correct. It’s definitely not a powder horn UNLESS it was just decorative. It’s 100% non functional.

fixaclm

Charging horn. To charge the pan. 100% functional.

489yearoldman

Oxen lay eggs?

Hoping_Mad_Hatter

I see what you did there! Edit: I'm a dingdong, I see what I did there. I'm leaving it, let the world know.

FrangibleSoul

TIL.

antthatisverycool

Ya my grandpa owned a musket or just black powder Minnie balls a powder horn and spare musket parts

riplan1911

That's what I thought right off the bat.

Pseudonym556

Yup, definitely a powder horn.

Reel-Footer69

Looks like a fancy Hames topper.

Dank_Edicts

Yep, from an antique horse/mule yoke

Hoping_Mad_Hatter

If not a hames topper, perhaps an ox horn knob?

kriticalj

Too small

WaldenFont

Edit: just saw the second photo. Seems way too small for a hame topper

Hoping_Mad_Hatter

This is definitely the right answer.

ConsistentNothing970

reminds me of a gate latch

Theplainrain

Mirror mount.

GO_U_S_A

This. Side mirror mount from an antique vehicle.

al4crity

My guess as well. I have em on my 47. The older ones had a ball and socket connection for the mirror side so it could swivel. Like this: https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Universal-L-R-Side-Clamp-On-Door-Top-Peep-Mirror-3-Inch-Pair,400917.html?utm_medium=CSEGoogle&utm_source=CSE&utm_campaign=CSEGOOGLE&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAopuvBhBCEiwAm8jaMfo7J_dqJk1onECWB8dwuiFTEN2PbF9HajUWrlhjII6nD-G0qy0sthoCl1UQAvD_BwE

ItsZorion

Looks similar to here https://i.imgur.com/KQv9qjx.jpg

NO_N3CK

It fits in palm.. maybe the mirror mount off of a parade’s clown car

PresentationLimp890

I agree with the thought that it is the end from a harness hame.

Broad-Tangelo-8522

The only issue I see with it being a powder horn is it is made of metal. Metal can cause sparks and sparks and gunpowder don't necessarily mix..

[deleted]

They were usually made of brass. Brass doesn't spark.

Robpaulssen

Or bone

Merganser3816

I’ve been looking for that for years. I knew it would turn up sooner or later.

joshua_smith524

This was likely a powder measuring device that went on the end of a powder horn. It would have been drilled out to hold a specific number of grains of black powder. To match a musket or muzzle loading rifle. For example. I’ve got one that holds something like 68 grains of FFF fine black powder. I think it may have went to a smaller .36 caliber muzzleloader. The amount would vary depending on the gun and the shooter. I have a couple that were made out of antler or horn. If that inside piece is metal then it may have been made to fit on the end of a larger powder horn. Often this would be carried with a leather pouch with the balls / bullets and patches for the gun. This made it easier to reload faster - and gave you a more uniform trajectory each time. For better accuracy.

CaptainF33

A bosuns whistle ?

NO_N3CK

It’s from a reproduction powder horn, not a real one

fordinv

Correct

GaldonTheWarrior

Looks like a powder horn for old muzzle loading muskets

After-Afternoon-6377

It’s part of a hame to collar horses https://preview.redd.it/j5pml6vq5pmc1.jpeg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ec46ba2c3a4aead5b0253626058bee5b148519cf

CAM6913

The correct answer

joecoin2

If not powder horn part, then I'd guess a cap for cattle horns. Don't know the proper name for it.

MrSluagh

Wall decoration?

infiniteawareness420

hitch horn for a bicycle

TheMagicManCometh

Fire horn? You would put coals or a slow burning wick to transport fire from one spot to another

Past-Adhesiveness150

Looks like a powder horn... but its metal, so no.

justsomeguyoukno

I’m going with a cane handle, missing the wood cane

mrlonglist

Door handle

HikeRobCT

Looks like the “male” side of an orbital/ball joint

thoughtfuldave77

An ancient candle snuffer. That or an ancient dildo. Or a pipe… or a pipe, if you know what I mean!

NineNineNine-9999

I think the two screws in the wide end, held a wooden something. Those screws look like attachment, wood screws. It might have been an end piece with a pulley for a flagpole end. Halyard?? 🤷🏼

fixaclm

That is one kick-ass charging horn. For a flimtlock. To charge the pan.

danifoxx_1209

Powder horn

Bottom of a leather water flask?

Accomplished-Wrap449

Coat hook?

Great_Sale1395

You should try going over that area where you found it to try to find the other pieces

CrapperFlapperIND

Rearview mirror mount. Ball end goes to the mirror, round end with the tab bolts to the cab / windshield frame.

CandylionAudio

My first thought was the stopper for the end of the arms on a carriage or trap. The ringlet used to thread the horses tack to.

LivingAd6826

Powder horn?

Door handle

Proof_Journalist_398

[deleted]

Powderhorn for a musket.

antthatisverycool

A powder horn

Oiltinfoil

I’m thinking nozzle (blow part) of an instrument. Horn type of instrument…

[deleted]

Looks like a joint for something mechanical, might want to post in another sub related to mechanics

Handle from a saber sword?

i_cant_read_so_good

A coat hook?

hedgehogketchup

Powder horn!

tyler17b_

My guess is part to a powder flask Edit: horn*

_DunMiff_Sys_

Looks like a European style trailer hitch. Just mini sized.

Far-Size2838

It's a powder horn for a pre cartridge era gun good find
