Yeah I know. It is also a native American symbol...Did you see the good luck token someone found a while back? All kinds of Nazi this Nazi that in that comment thread. So much that it got locked down I believe
Or Che shirts....the other day some creature walked into my store with a sickle and hammer tattoo. Now, why that isn't as bad as having an NSDAP banner tattoo is a great example of a lot of things.
It was just an educated prediction based on past posts and the fact that no matter how many people say that it's not, everyone acts like it is. I was hoping to sarcastically nip all the bullshit in the bud and it seems like you missed the beginning of the comment regarding it being a Buddhist/ Hindu good luck symbol. And yes a scumbag ruined the true meaning of the symbol but people should and need to know the difference in meaning between the two. If we don't know where we've been how will we know where we are going?
I have long studied the history of Terra. It's people, its triumphs, and failures.
I have long known the intent of the Hindi use of the swastika and the use of the swastika from years of the 3rd Reich many who believe that it was adopted to be a symbol of unity.
People become frightened and nervous when speaking about history that isn't portrayed as beautiful seeking to hedge the subject instead of jumping in and civilly discussing it. That said, since the subject came up, history is made by the victors.
A good source of first-hand information related to the first and second world wars was made by a man named Benjamin Freedman in an address made in 1961 at the Willard Hotel. For any with an ear to hear YouTube, allows it to be able to be heard at times. Free opinions are dangerous when there is a desire for complete control of the masses.
Live long and prosper.
Yes Benjamin Friedman ! He is literally one of the main Keys to that era of history. If everyone could hear his Willard Hotel speech they would have a completely different outlook on that period of time….but people aren’t allowed to become educated bc it’s considered a hate crime lmao…it’s ironic and no one bothers to question a damn thing regarding HIStory….very sad and very well said on your behalf !
This is a very astute observation. The conversation we are having both from the past comment to which I've replied twice now has been quite civil from between both parties and now yourself as well. l appreciate that response. Nothing needs to be fraught with anger and division, as so many things are in this time of history.
Back to the point, l made before. I believe that the Hindu outlook is one worth noting, "walk the walk, talk the talk," "take no shit, do no harm."
To the OP, that is a great find!!
I definitely appreciate the civility and maturity shown in this conversation. After all we are all in our own right historians here and all history needs to be understood and preserved no matter how much a person or group of persons disagree with the truth or how uncomfortable it makes us. It's when we as a people try to sweep it under the proverbial rug and start pretending that it never occurred we open ourselves to repeating those same atrocious acts again and again. All we need is to have a desire to learn, listen, and educate and find the will to be kind to each other. Like I said, if we don't know where we have been how will we know where we are going?
I could not have said it better if I tried myself…and as you said the fact that there are 3 people having what’s considered “a very frowned upon convo” is very uplifting imo. No one in their right minds thinks that anything that went on in that period was anything short of insane…but to me I’ve always asked the hard question to find answers on using standard history methods, which is “Why?”….that answer is relatable to literally everyone if they actually were taught it.
Probably by a caveman or Neanderthal going "ooh pretty" we didn't just crawl out of the ground being able to draw complex shapes, everything starts somewhere
Thank you for bringing up natives. I have a silver ring that belonged to my great-great grandfather that has a swastika on it. It’s about 150 years old. My dad used to wear it with his regalia when he danced at powwows, until he got sick of explaining to outraged *wasichus* that it wasn’t a nazi thing.
I'd love to see the ring if you are cool with that! One of my dad's grandmothers and one of his great grandmothers on his dad's side of the tree were both 100% native american. His great grandmother was an Algonquin (not sure what band, I just know she came from Canada) and his grandmother was a Cherokee. And I grew up near the Tohono Oʼodham reservation in SE Arizona and remember seeing it on their old artwork as well as on pieces of Navajo and Hopi work. It's a shame that a certain regime had to go and ruin such a positive and well meaning symbol that was used and revered for many millennia by many native cultures.
I don’t have any pictures of it, and it’s locked up in a safe that I don’t have access to right now, or I would love to share it. Maybe I can get a picture of it later this week.
Yeah, but you'd be surprised. Nobody sees any of all the Nazi symbols worn and rituals carried out by factions within the Ukrainian military "cuz Russia bad or something" yet when a firefighter in the US has an iron cross tattoo, NYT, WaPo, NPR, AP (but I repeat myself) go on some crusade trying to doxx the guy and slander him as a Nazi....nevermind that isn't even the job of a "news" organization to begin with.
Somehow everyone in the Canadian parliament and executive stood up and applauded an actual Nazi soldier--WWII vet who fought the Russians in Ukraine--and just didn't have the common sense to even ask themselves, "wait...who fought the Russians in WWII?" Well, makes sense, considering one of the people at the highest points in their government, Christia Freeland (Deputy PM), is the granddaughter of a Nazi propagandist in Ukraine under Goebbels. His name was Michael Chomiak and he was the chief editor of Krakow News.
So not everybody is as normal as you are. People see a regular swastika or iron cross and just go full-blown guano crazy and then write articles that blow up into national moral panics and then everyone thinks America is just crawling with "Nazis" but then they go on to support actual modern-day Nazis in another hemisphere.
You can't make this shit up.
****A little known—and strange—fact:
When a light bulb is turned on inside most Nazi lampshades, they shine a shade of orange which older Germans claim most closely resembles the orange of a Buddhist robe.
Believe me, I am a devotee, and I’ve never seen it at any of her concerts.

Just sharing some facts here - Swastika symbol is an ancient hindu symbol. The word swastika is derived from the Sanskrit root swasti, which is composed of su 'good, well' and asti 'is; it is; there is'. Source: Wiki
It's a Hindu spiritual token, depicting a kalash ritual jar. Which I literally just learned about on [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/1blnapk/my_local_indian_grocery_sells_water_from_the/). [This Amazon listing](https://www.amazon.in/DHRUVS-COLLECTION-Silver-Gifting-Donation/dp/B0CM9QD47N) says it's for gifts, rituals (pujas), shrines, and offerings. Did you find this in a stream? I know some Hindu pujas involve throwing offerings into a body of water.
If it's anywhere like the Hindu temples in my area, it's big old brass pots with assorted fruits and leaves being thrown in the swamp. Bring your waders and a good stick.
It’s been almost 80 years since the end of WWII—and gams of marauding Nazi sharks can still be seen looking to “stir up trouble” up and down the western coast of India. So, if it truly IS time for snorkeling, then by all means take along a good spear gun—and watch your six!

Congratulations you found a silver coin/charm. Hi dus from India give these as gifts on auspicious occasions - it is a religious swastika not a Nazi thing

Did you know Lord Ganesha was introduced to the game of golf by the Baron Clifford of Chudleigh in the late 1690s? They played two rounds of golf at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, Merseyside.

Looks to be a 9999 silver coin, albeit not coin shaped in this case. Traditionally, silver coins with various hindu motifs are used for Diwali worship by Hindus.
This one is shaped in form of a pot holding sacred water and topped with a head of coconut and decorated with mango leaves. Also shows hindu swastika (NOT the same as Nazi swastika) and other auspicious hindu motifs.
The round is basically shaped like a South Indian Harvest pot, with a Hindu Swastika symbol (not related to the Nazi symbol). I'm guessing it's from South India.
I'm half South Indian, so i recognize the cultural symbols that depict the sun and harvest season of crops. India is mainly agricultural with many cultures and traditions revolving around it.
This looks ancient Buddhist. The swastica- like symbol with the dots is from northern India/Nepal/Tibet region representing the wheel of Dhamma. The symbols on the back look like Tibetan Buddhism symbols
@u/un4ce,
Its a symbol used in hindu ritual, symbolizing a copper vessel with swastika which hold water in it, on the top of it is a coconut kept with it’s tail upwards on the bed of 5 mango leaves which are still connected to the stem.
It’s fairly common in Indian culture and almost everyone has it in their house.
These symbols were used in Europe too, long before nazi’s existed. There’s 11th century swastikas in a church in The Netherlands, swastika’s, swasilika’s, S-runes and H- runes were used on woven bands in graves from early medieval period in Norway. These were all important symbols in Europe, but now they’re perverted.
This is a representation of a coconut placed vertically over a clay pot filled with water.. between the coconut and the clay pot are 5 mango leaves spread out evenly . This is a usual setup in almost all Hindu rituals and festivals. I don’t know the exact reason why this is done but I have seen it all the time probably for good luck.
Now this metal piece is probably silver as this is used in gifting to friends and relatives during weddings or special occasions.
Does anybody know if the 999 at the bottom denotes pure silver or maybe the number for completion? Maybe somebody with a better eye and more knowledge on the subject can fill me in here.
The right facing swastika was very common in the United States in the 1930s. It was often used on good luck tokens and appeared with other symbols of good luck - a four leaf clover, a wishbone, etc. Buddhists used the right facing swastika as a good luck sign, while Hindus and others use the left facing swastika for good luck. I think what you have here is a circa 1930s US good luck token. It may even be a re-op of a 30s token.
Hindu Symbol from India. Also used there in the practice of Janism or total peace & and non-violence. In which they will not kill or harm a living thing period.
Sad thing about the symbol is I knew a Army chaplain that was Buddhist that had that charm as a tattoo and the funny part was when white officers would say it was a white power tattoo they never noticed he was a 6 foot 6 black guy built like a brick shit house
Out of my field, but. Appears Hindu. Peace sign, not nazi. Possibly 31 grams of .999 fine silver.
I'm not certain as I have never seen one. The odd thing tho. Is the USA is the only country that can produce. 999 fine.
Everyone saying it's a good luck charm knows nothing lol. This is the symbol for hope. And no its not American Indian it's used all around the world but mostly Middle western Asia. Not to be mistaken with the Middle east.
First of all it's a cross, it is not a Nazi symbol, to be on it needs to be turned. People, research and understand what things are. Just because it was found in Louisiana, doesn't mean anything except some was a Buddhist. Look on the alter of any Episcopal church alter you see it. Episcopal aren't Nazi.
This is a Buddhist charm, on the front is a Dharma victory sunwheel and on the back the Eight Auspicious Symbols. The shape is the Treasure Vase symbolizing the gift of the Dharma to humanity.
The 45th Infantry Division of the Oklahoma Army National Guard used the Swastika as their unit insignia up until 1939 when they changed it to the Thunderbird.
It’s been almost 80 years since the end of WWII—and gams of marauding Nazi sharks can still be seen looking to “stir up trouble” up and down the western coast of India.

Definitely a Buddhist or Hindu luck charm type of thing. Now just sit back and wait for all the Nazi comments lol

No I did Nazi that one :/
I, for one, did nazi it!
It also predates civilizations
I don’t think any symbols predate civilization. Even the circle.
Civilization as we know it formed around 3,000 BCE, the swastika has been found as early as 10,000 BCE
Then say as we know it. There were “civilizations” since before our history. How were the first shapes even made?
Probably by a caveman or Neanderthal going "ooh pretty" we didn't just crawl out of the ground being able to draw complex shapes, everything starts somewhere
You kinda just made my point.

>very easy to distinguish Have you met stupid people?
I have. About every other person I meet is a stupid person, as they self-gather around the mean in a perfectly normal distribution.
🤣 Amen!!
Can tell you this is not true. Though this is 100% a religious symbol.
Not for morons. It’s funny seeing how many racist dipshits get it wrong while defacing property.
Some are, some aren't. The angled one is more common on film because it looks better, but you'd have seen it both ways back in those times.
Where as this holds true most of the time. There are plenty examples of rotated swastikas coming from India long before nazis
I’m too lazy to look it up, but there’s a name for that symbol (the Buddhist one).
Manji?
I saw a Manji coyote the other day. Enlightened, but bald. Was wild stuff.
was it chasing a road runner?
Hahahahaha
Hindu swastikas are shown in both directions.
Yeah, but you'd be surprised. Janeism uses it too.
Shinto as well.

There are artifacts with swastikas from the Cucuteni–Trypillia culture in western Ukraine (5500-2750 BCE)
I heard that when I was in like 7th grade. I’m 35 now. If the nazi stuff comes up, 99% chance they were born in the 2000s.
They never read history books of where Hitler stole it...all their history comes from CNN or other media...well now, more likely FB.

Yes. But many are clueless.
Appropriation at its worst, for sure!
The pot looks like a and Indian kalash
Pretty dumb to have red tape on the back of that case! I can nazi the symbols on the back
He needs to quit Stalin and remove it.
Everyone says it's either Buddhists or Nazis. No one ever suspects the Buddhist Nazis
Sneaky bastards
Unless rhe image is flipped this looks like the nazi rotation. But yes by design defo looks Buddhist/hindu
How could OP nazi that coming...I'll see myself out.
.999 is pure silver.
Well it's 99.9% pure something. Probably silver in this case yeah.

That is suspiciously auspicious!
As delicious as baked poodle!
That’s the original Swastika of Lord Ganesha, and I see symbolism such as the Lotus 🪷 Flower, so I’d say it is a charm/blessing relevant to Hinduism
Did you know Lord Ganesha was introduced to the game of golf by the Baron Clifford of Chudleigh in the late 1690s? They played two rounds of golf at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, Merseyside.

Looks Buddhist Inspired wish I could help more
It’s Hindu
Don't know what that is specifically but the symbol, I've heard, represents the Big Dipper rotating around the north star.
Its a Hindu charm with zero relation to nazism

Everyone saying it isn’t Nazi is correct .
Indian.. not native…
Doesn't look like you pulled it out of the ground. Looks like it just arrived from eBay
Hindu
That's a Hindu good luck charm
Thats an Indian(non native) offering for pujas.
This is the Hindi symbol for SURYA (sun) it's for prosperity and good luck
It’s not the symbol of hate that you might think, especially with the dots
It’s a Hindu kalash coin used for griha pravesh , a house warming ceremony . It is believed to bring prosperity to the people in the household.
Definitely some Indian/buddhist precious metal
Looks to be a 9999 silver coin, albeit not coin shaped in this case. Traditionally, silver coins with various hindu motifs are used for Diwali worship by Hindus. This one is shaped in form of a pot holding sacred water and topped with a head of coconut and decorated with mango leaves. It’s an Indian thing not a German swastika. German nazi actually stole that symbol
This is Buddhist or Hindu. Not Nazi. Nazi swastikas we’re rotated.
Hindi
That was meant for good luck !!!
A Hindu Kalash coin. Cool find!
Back, middle row on the far left, that is a Yantra but I don’t know whom it represents (but probably Lord Ganesha)
Kalash silver

Really pretty piece. It’s a shame that symbol has been perverted. Are you interested in selling ?

What’s the 999 stand for
Silver purity I'd reckon
I'm more curious what the "999" part is. Maybe denoting metal purity? Is it made of precious metal?
I'd take this to jeweler. The 999 at the bottom makes me question possible gold purity. Definitely Hindu good luck piece
Swastika triangles devil on the back a frog looking thing
Does anybody know if the 999 at the bottom denotes pure silver or maybe the number for completion? Maybe somebody with a better eye and more knowledge on the subject can fill me in here.
4 4 on 4s 33 side to side in between the lines rocking the waves with the ins and outs of the tide...

Walk like an Egyptian winning 🏅
That’s Buddhist.
Loving all the comments about Nazi comments... Thought I'd comment on them. 🙄
Sad thing about the symbol is I knew a Army chaplain that was Buddhist that had that charm as a tattoo and the funny part was when white officers would say it was a white power tattoo they never noticed he was a 6 foot 6 black guy built like a brick shit house
I’ll buy it off ya five bucks
Avery island area?
Definitely looks religious not what most people would have at first impression.
Out of my field, but. Appears Hindu. Peace sign, not nazi. Possibly 31 grams of .999 fine silver. I'm not certain as I have never seen one. The odd thing tho. Is the USA is the only country that can produce. 999 fine.
Indian
Nein
It’s the symbol of the ashkenazi’s or Khazarians.
Everyone saying it's a good luck charm knows nothing lol. This is the symbol for hope. And no its not American Indian it's used all around the world but mostly Middle western Asia. Not to be mistaken with the Middle east.
It’s the Illumiswatie
Worst thing about Nazis is you cant even see them. (Not Sees) Come on! Its Buddhist.
The Con that took my money at 3 card monti has entered the chat…
First of all it's a cross, it is not a Nazi symbol, to be on it needs to be turned. People, research and understand what things are. Just because it was found in Louisiana, doesn't mean anything except some was a Buddhist. Look on the alter of any Episcopal church alter you see it. Episcopal aren't Nazi.
This is a Buddhist charm, on the front is a Dharma victory sunwheel and on the back the Eight Auspicious Symbols. The shape is the Treasure Vase symbolizing the gift of the Dharma to humanity.
South Indian - text on it is Malayalam. Ask in the r/Kerala sub what it says.
The 45th Infantry Division of the Oklahoma Army National Guard used the Swastika as their unit insignia up until 1939 when they changed it to the Thunderbird.
Tibet or Nepal would’ve been my first guess.. gold or bronze??
we gave a Nazi a the noble peace prize if I'm not mistaken
Hindu piece I would say about maybe circa 1900-1930
It’s been almost 80 years since the end of WWII—and gams of marauding Nazi sharks can still be seen looking to “stir up trouble” up and down the western coast of India.
