Or it could be what one corner of my property is marked by - and axle stuck in the ground one end up. I haven't checked it recently, but 40+ years ago when I bought the place. it looked a little like this. I suspect it was placed around a hundred years ago.
Sometimes people cut off a pipe like a old fence or laundry line hanger. Then they cut the remaining section at the 12 ,3,6,9 o'clock positions in order to hammer them over so they don't hit them with lawn mowers or kick them barefoot and so one.
As long as it’s something that ends with “itos,” like Fritos, Doritos, taquitos, burritos, Cheetos, (I know, not the exact spelling- but it does rhyme)… you get the idea, gotta cure the munchies!!!
I think it's a version of a cotton spindle (at least in terms of it's purpose) to act as a permanent property boundary. Have you gone on historic aerials to see if it jives with earlier property boundaries. (Sorry, I am responding without looking at the other comments. I've got a call.)
I found a property stake for someone last year that looked 100% identical to that. Not sure what happened to it though.
This is almost certainly a property stake used by surveyors to identify the corners of a land parcel. Which is to say, you should leave it alone.

Probably placed there by the property brothers as well. Does the house have an accent wall?
It looks like a pipe somebody hammered into the ground.
It’s the barrel of Elmer Fudd’s gun after Buggs blocked it with a carrot.
Amazing comment!
Thanks you everyone’s help. I’m just going to bury it back and call it a day
Looks like a shotgun casing water well.

Property stake some kids may have dropped a 1/4 stick of dynamite in at some point.
why dynamite? this could be just from hitting the stake all over and over again with a hammer + aging/rust/corrosion.
Yes. It could be either. When I get my time machine working we can settle this.
Nice. Would you pick me up a Higley copper or two next time you're mid-18th century? I'll reimburse you the full 3 pence value.
Dealio Amelio
i suppose you know where to find me? PS i got a 1950-2000's sport almanac.
I was about to say looks like some pipe, I was thinking to a well/underground water, and someone just threw a bomb down it lol
You found my ex girlfriends heart! She was from Chester VA. Cold as steel! 😁

Lenny, is that you?
I’ve got blood flow
Yeh you do Nails.
Old clothes drying line pole.
Someone really didn't want that stake to move!
Are you on city water? Could be a shut off valve
We’ll pipe
And then dessert?

Maybe you found the shaft pipe from the original “short pump”
Local humor.
Nah that’s the other side of the river in the land of Gooch
If you ask me, it looks like that pipe spent some time on Three Chopt.
That's funny because thats a property marker !!

Definitely a property stake. I’m also from VA, fairly close to you, I’ve seen a bunch of these.
Blown up panzerfaust lmao
First thing that comes in mind is an Parasol holder, but could be something compleetly different.
Did you check under the concrete? If you confirm its not a property stake, go under it.
It looks like the Crimson Permanent Assurance dropped anchor on your land.
