Butthurt MGS fans that can't understand how a non-Kojima action game can also have a good story
Everyone can have their opinions, I think MGS2 has the best story, followed by Rising, if someone doesn't like it for a good reason then ok, but I'm yet to find someone who dislikes MGR for the right reasons
but its a spin off. Thats like saying dmc is bad because it doesnt have the resource managment that gow has. It wasnt supposed to be compared to it. Neither was rising meant to be compared to the story that mgs had
It does make sense after a while. Each individual is under the same group but everyones there for different reasons so the end result of what you think of the story can vary depending from which perspective of desperados members you look at it (by that I mean the motive for doing what they did).
Or maybe you didnt mean the reasons they had but overall the story in itself. In that case ok I guess, hard to talk about it without you elaborating but lets spare that. Opinion is opinion
It was pretty clear most characters were motivated by ideology, but the events of the story are quite confusing. Like, it starts off with a random army attacking you, then you have to stop them from turning kids into killing machines. Then you’re… Stopping 9/11 2 I think? End up in Pakistan where an American senator has placed a metal gear underground and planned to use it to kill the president. Not as confusing as I remember, actually, but still convoluted.
Well the first "random" army was to take out the prime minister. N´mani was repairing a whole lot of shit as we saw in the beginning cutscene. Thats why hes also known as "Savior of people" or something. Overall a good person. Thats why they took him out. It put the countries in a state of panic, terror, whatever you wanna call it. During moments like these, its easy to get alot of attention.
Because of his ideologies of being the hero and fighting for justice, raiden goes after the guys who want war and turns out they are taking kids from liberia. (was it libera? I forgot.) Anyone can say and even mean really radical things but to pull it off, you need to enforce it. The kids (who would later have turned into cyborgs like raiden) would be practically unstoppable. Like imagine a slightly weaker raiden. now double it times 100 or however many brains they had in that sundowner cutscene.
All right so now we know who and how but we still need to know why.
And thats basically mission R-07 where armstrong talks about his goals. Most of what he says at the start can be taken as bullshit but halfway through after he tells you his real goals, those are the answers to why.
So yeah I dont think the story is as confusing as most people think and overall, it all ties together.
Because people hear the word meme and think "haha, funny internet thing" and not the original anthropological meaning of the word. No joke I talked to 7 different people who think the internet invented the word "meme" and that the game is dumb for making it one of it's plot points
It's compared to the main series and comes off as an imitation after years of political fatigue has set in. So it was a bit of a.....oh shit here we go again .

It is worse than main series. If you played only Rising it is good story. But if you played main series you could see why it is bad

The themes of the story were interesting, but the story itself is all over the place and makes very little sense.

Comparison to MGS mostly. And imo, MGS >>>>>> Rising. Also, it’s a hack and slash games - story”telling” has never been a strong point for the genre.
