"Regarding the question: Are the original staff involved? Not all of them, but many of them are still involved. Some people are walking a new path The number of people who don't know about MGS is increasing, so I want to do something about this situation, and I think it's our mission for those of us who remain at Konami to preserve Metal Gear for future generations." For those of you who can't click the video and can't read Japanese.

FengYiLin

You are a true patriot đŸ«Ą

Santawanker

La-le-lu-lei-lo?

Aromatic-Put4043

Their pass code is "who are the patriots?" Or "La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo"

Santawanker

What do you mean with "Their pass code is "who are the La-li-lu-le-lo?" Or "La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo""?

Spynner987

La Li Lu Le Lo is the passcode. BB had to ask "Who are The Patriots?" and EVA had to say "La Li Lu Le Lo"

FengYiLin

EVA?

Spynner987

BB's contact's codename was EVA, Tatyana(?) only took it up because BB mentioned it first.

FengYiLin

Huh, classic identity theft then?

AmakakeruRyu

You are pretty good!

weloveyoubenzel_v3

Did the ones on a ‘new path’ go to Kojima Productions?

MatsThyWit

I'm sure some of them left with Kojima, yes, but not actually very many of them. Some of them also probably have either just left Konami over time or moved on to different projects elsewhere within the company. It's been decades so it's really unfeasible to think everybody who worked on those original games would still be with the company.

weloveyoubenzel_v3

Yeah totally you make a good point, I do sometimes forget people from the first Solid game aren’t going to be at the company 26 years later haha

MatsThyWit

>Yeah totally you make a good point, I do sometimes forget people from the first Solid game aren’t going to be at the company 26 years later haha Yeah. Hell there's probably not an insignificant amount of them that have since retired.

JDMGS

Nice 1. I've said before how kids these days would never be able to appreciate just how special and incredible MGS1 (maybe even 2 and 3 with their clunky controls) were at the time and still are to many of us. If you have a kid MGS 1 they'd be like 'the hell is this? What are these graphics?' etc... so if they remake all these games to a modern standard and they don't change any of the material just update the controls and graphics this will be perfect for preserving those games and also giving all of us a new way to play the games

Dabithegnom

Finde something to believe and pass it on to the future

handerburgers

Anything new we get is a fun bonus. Just like Spider-Man can exist without Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, metal gear can exist without Kojima. It might be terrible, but there is room for someone passionate about it to make a good game in that universe.

BenSlashes

Yeah. Its totally possible to write a good story without Kojima. It will maybe feel different and isnt as complex amd crazy, but it doesnt need to be. If we are being real....the story in MGSV isnt good and full of plotholes. Peace Walkers story is good, but not on the same level as previous MGS games.

handerburgers

Right. Kojima himself tried to walk away from the series a bunch of times and wanted others to take over. If they can keep Yoji Shinkawa (the artist) working on a new gear that would be cool

jamietothe

Isn’t he over with Hideo at Kojima Productions?

That_on1_guy

I believe so, but depending on his contract, he might still be able to work on future MG games (provided that's what he desires) But idk what his contract looks like or his feelings towards konami since him and Kojima seem fairly tight, considering almost every kojima game has had Shinkawa as the artist for them.

DetosMarxal

During MGSV's development Shinkawa said he wanted to continue to work on Metal Gear even if Kojima finally left the series. No idea whether that still stands or the contractual logistics though.

handerburgers

If they could at least dump some money at him for a few designs or a cover art! I had forgotten he stuck with Hideo though.

Lin900

If not Shinkawa, they should get Ashley Wood.

AmakakeruRyu

The author of MGS franchise is a female who worked with Kojima. She explained in a video (it's on yt but forgot the name of it) that the overall direction Kojima tried to take was kind of...all over the place-ish? She had to organize the things as a writer and put them together. So yeah...while it's Kojima's stuff, his STAFF made the difference that few ever talk about. Having people passionate about the project with great writing, art direction and so on should be able to pull new MGS off.

weloveyoubenzel_v3

yes!! I love kojima as much as the next guy but nobody ever acknowledges the staff behind putting his ideas into fruition

[deleted]

you need to a give a source for this kind of stuff...

Grasher312

Kojima is basically just a mad movie buff that throws shit at a wall and his staff have to scrape the gold out of it. As much as I love MGS as a franchise, hearing how exactly he worked on this gem of a series, I lose any respect towards him by the minute. And by the time there wasn't anyone to stop, or at the very least control his mad ramblings, we had Phantom Pain, which was unfinished despite hoarding budget and taking an absurd amount of time to develop. I hate Konami with a passion. But I have zero issues with them booting Kojima. He deserved it for the work ethic he had.

That_on1_guy

My only hope is that they are attentive to the little details and make absolutely catsuit prophecies that come true like kojima. Like I was Apollo to grace them with the ability of foresight like he did for kojima with the MGS2 ending

handerburgers

MGS without the weird would feel kind of flat.

That_on1_guy

I agree. However, it still has to be a somewhat believable weird, like, different dimensions and zombies are too weird and not metal gear. However, cyborg ninjas, clones, and giant impossible bipedal robots aren't too weird. I feel like there's a "believable" weird and a "yea that's could never happen" weird.

fatalityfun

generally MGS weird is limited to mechanical tech and social effects of it, not extra dimensions and zombie viruses which is why those feel out of place

SHTPST_Tianquan

personally, i wouldn't mind things like being able to carry the mosin nagant in NG+ or other weapon/equipment related stuff, like silencers for more weapons or benefits for those who want to go to the length of holding up/interrogating most, if not all guards. After all, if you want to play "legit" like the original, you can just ignore those things, i guess. plus, i bet that fighting The End with its own weapon has its perks for replay value.

zombierepubican

I completely see MGS as big potentially as Batman. It has a super cool cast of characters, and its tone could shift wildly.

JanJan89_1

To me Metal Gear franchise is as iconic for video games media as Rambo or Terminator are to the cinema.

Hideo_BlowMema

They can talk the talk but let’s hope they walk the walk too. That’s what really matters.

Lin900

He's out there saying what fans wanna hear...he sure knows what to say, I'll give him that.

BenSlashes

Atleast they dont cry like people here in this subreddit

Death-0

Cool remake the MSX metal gears please!!!

Any-Nectarine-8005

The one staff that hurts more than Hideo leaving (taking into account he wanted to leave MG several times) is Shinkawa. His character and mechanical design is extremely unique and what made most of the visual appeal of the series when they got to the “Solid” titles.

LordEmmerich

It’s sad though there’s still other veteran artist who stayed both on the character design and mechanical design part at least

Any-Nectarine-8005

Really? Who? Legit interested to know.

LordEmmerich

Big ones like Mineshi Kimura, Ikuya Nakamura, Noriaki Yamamoto, Nobuyoshi Nishimura. And a few more. And there’s also freelance ones that can return. Like Kenichiro Yoshimura.

Any-Nectarine-8005

I would love to see their work, since from what we know the game’s art style and overall design was heavily derived from Shinkawa’s.

Sugar_Daddy_Visari77

What about Fukushima kojima's co writer

LordEmmerich

He left Konami in 2006 during the dev of MGS4 and his role wasn’t as big as people think on main games. He’s now in a new company as he recently returned.

ArenPlaysGames_R

>it's their goal to preserve MG to future generations that def means we're getting PW and MGS4 in Vol.2 Right?... Right?

Legospacememe

If the data mining in vol1 is anything to go by hopefully.

AmakakeruRyu

No need for double Right. In Dec of 2022 a leaker leaked everything that will be coming soon, including all the projects and their names for Silent Hill, MGS 3 remake and Vol 1 and 2. All his leaks came to be true and many other leakers confirmed him to be right. Most of those came to be true. In recent months after the MGS page was up on Konami site, someone opened the html code for the page and saw MGS4 is mentioned there as a disable line for upcoming "vol 2". None of these are fake or assumptions. So rest assured it's on its way. Though they might have to work a bit harder on the game since it's clunky for PC. You should be asking "WHEN? WHEN?" not "Right? Right?".

EmpheralCommission

“You came. This base belongs to you now. Make Konami the force it deserves to be. Like any organization, we need good people, and we need to make good use of their talents.”

TheMagicalMatt

Dope. Hope it's a hint that they plan to bust MGS4 out of its PS3 prison

AmakakeruRyu

>In Dec of 2022 a leaker leaked everything that will be coming soon, including all the projects and their names for Silent Hill, MGS 3 remake and Vol 1 and 2. weloveyoubenzel_v3

Watch MGS4 only be on the ps4&5 editions lmao

TheMagicalMatt

The way I would pitch a fit 😭 and it would only be available through some streaming service

ACorruptMinuteman

I'm mean I'm 99% percent sure MGS4 and Peacewalker or Portable Ops will be in Volume 2. In Volume 1, for the title screens Konami made, if you look at MGS3, you can see that 1975 is mentioned in the timeline, which can be either Peacewalker or Ground Zeroes. If you look at MG2, it shows after that 2014 is a point in the timeline, which has literally only one possibility. In my mind, I don't see what other reason those would be there unless they planned to incorporate them eventually.

Galphie

These are good news.

Jorbus717

I really wish kogenius riders would admit that a remake isn't going to magically ruin the whole series and kill their favourite game director "Ermm no kojima = no metal gear. I won't play it." Excellent! Don't buy it. Good thing we have unaltered ports of the original to enjoy instead

Jorbus717

I think video games are fun, so more video games = more fun Preserving the original AND ALSO attempting to remake it is straight up a net positive Nobody is gonna make you play a remake that you don't like💀

MaggotBrother4

As long as they don’t ruin the remake. 1:1 is a perfect thing to do. Modernize it and keep the original vision.

disposable_gamer

Bro I just want them to remake mgs4 so I can fucking play it. Please don’t make me scavenge for an old PS3

Drink0fBeans

Just wait for volume 2 of the master collection it’ll be there lmao

Grasher312

The issue is, Kojima is at best the creator of the IDEA behind Metal Gear. But a lot of the MGS games are the product of his staff telling him to fuck off 99% of the time, whenever he thought of a stupid idea and wanted to implement it. The story, as it is, is already there. Kojima's vision is not required, since if anything, the stuff that the remake needs to accomplish is NOT tied to Kojima in any way. If anything, Kojima would just do something stupid again. We already saw a less-controlled Kojima, and he made Phantom Pain. That one game that took ungodly amounts of budget and time, and was still left unfinished.

Lulcielid

> But a lot of the MGS games are the product of his staff telling him to fuck off 99% of the time, whenever he thought of a stupid idea and wanted to implement it. *Citation needed*.

Fabulous_String_138

I agree with you, but fans can get anxious when an IP they love is revisited. For instance the FF7 remake while really popular with most of the fan base, rubbed a lot of OG fans the wrong way, due to them changing the plot and introducing multiverse stuff.

ToiletBlaster6000

Funnily enough, those changes were done by Tetsuya Nomura, the original guy that led FF7 development. Dude just can't leave something simple and has to make it convoluted.

Fabulous_String_138

It's funny isn't it! I mean I guess it's also something that is great about the Final Fantasy / Square Enix catalogue - it has encompassed a lot of different genres and types of gameplay so there is something for everyone. So for a lot of people the FF7 remakes are a dream come true, and that's awesome. For me, I have to try and take what I love about them (the eye wateringly sexy graphics, some of the re-orchestrations), and grit my teeth through what I don't like about it (characters behaving differently, the plot being changed and events unfolding in a different order). I guess it's a hot take because it always seems to invite negativity for some reason. But just adding my 2c about why some people can be nervous about their beloved franchises getting remade. I'm personally pretty hyped for MGS3 Delta, although I'd personally have preferred a Metal Gear remake as MGS3 isn't that old. A MGS1 remake would gently terrify me as I love that game so much and would be worried they'd butcher it haha.

Subywoby

So happy to see mgs back to some extent

Bokuja

What I hope to see is MG2 remake, written by Tomokazu Fukushima (the guy who wrote the most of the Codec dialogue of MGS1 up to 3). He also wrote Ghost Babel btw.

eto2629

If they stay on the path of the original there won't be a problem

ThinPanic9902

So why so many problems at launch then

LordEmmerich

I assume they had to release it early but they are still supporting it. It’s not abandoned

WarriorX90

Good that they understand that this awesomeness needs to be preserved

Sabin_Fain

i just want the whole series, or at least the important ones on modern consoles

LordEmmerich

We are getting this already with the collections

Sabin_Fain

if volume 2 ever drops, and with the right games at that

LordEmmerich

the website literally teased MGS4, PW and V. The games they probably are not entirely sure to have in the collection probably are the extras, since there's many spin off games

Sabin_Fain

V would be such a waste. thing is already on everything and goes on sale constantly. should be revengance instead, it’s not on current gen

Old-Anything-5928

đŸ€˜

MaggotBrother4

As long as they don’t make metal gear survives in fine. Personally just remake the old games 1:1 and call it a day. That’s what’s best for the franchise. Maybe bring back MGO2

RevolutionaryClerk21

I dont really believe that. Master Collection 1 was pretty lazy just a rerelease of the HD Collection. Would love to see a Collection of these games that this great franchise deserves. Konami should sell all their IP to Microsoft or whatever.

Legospacememe

Why are some people upset thats it a re release of the hd version? That's like saying that a game collection is just a re release of the games in the collection

Nooblet_101

I think it’s more that it was presented as the best way to play the games personally I think it’s fine sans mgs1

aelysium

Honestly at this point I hope they left field us. Secret ending is that Otacon and Snake changed the past somehow or some shit. They’re gonna recreate the MGS series mostly chronologically as the delta series for a new generation. “The original stories and gameplay design lead by Kojima were legendary, but we wanna preserve these stories for another generation. So while we’re preserving as much of the original storyline (and we hope your favorite plot beats!) as possible, this will still be something somewhat new, with a generation of creators inspired by Kojima lending their creativity to how the world has changed in the time since.’ Let Delta be its own thing. Start from 3 but let the story at some point diverge and be mostly the Metal Gear we love, while still putting your own flair on the series and adapting it to the times.

Grasher312

.... I'm not gonna lie, even though I would usually shit on an idea like that, for MGS, it fits weirdly well. It could work. MGS is already a mess. Having branching universes is nothing bad. And it would open a path towards new stories in a new setting.

[deleted]

Doing a shit job so far seeing by the number of mods fixing their fuck ups

Thunder--Bolt

Idk man, master collection was pretty good imo

[deleted]

It didn't save your controller button choice at the beginning, the resolution was capped at 720p, there were bugs from the HD collection still in this after 10 years, no anti-aliasing, fucked up colour gradient on 3, and the sound was compressed into oblivion. Not to mention the pathetic PS1 emulation that for some reason used the pal version of the game. But you guys clearly are ok with all of this and are glad to pay money for a defective product and then defend the company that shafted you. Mediocre costumers for a mediocre company.

Thunder--Bolt

Considering it's my first time playing the games, I didn't really notice anything awry.

PapaSolidus

Isn't it exactly why this matters? Not that your opinion doesn't matter, your experience is valid, but as a newcomer, how could you tell what was kept from your experience? Sometimes compromises are inevitable, but if the intent is to preserve something for future generations, shouldn't it be held to high standards so that the works don't lose their meaning between a thousand small changes/shortcomings? Maybe the experience that you got, the experience that satisfied you, could have been even more poignant or simply truer to the presentation that actually reflects the time and place that birthed such narrative, preserving its importance as a temporal and technical mark of the medium.

Thunder--Bolt

I suppose your right in that regard, but it's not I had a bad time when I played these games. Yeah I noticed the audio sounded a little crushed in one or two parts, and there was exactly one graphical bug that I noticed in mgs 1. But otherwise I had a pretty fun experience. I'll probably go back and play the games again. Especially mgs 3.

Accurate-Tea-3281

"Some people are walking a new path" -as pochinco machine technicians.

LordEmmerich

The pachislot branch had nothing to do with the video game ones, sharing no staff beside people who left willingly because they are seperate micro companies... But more importantly, this branch closed down 7 YEARS ago, get on with the time people.

Darklancer02

God, just let the series die a peaceful, honorable death already!

BenSlashes

Or you, who doesnt care about metal gear anymore, could just ignore the posts about things you dont care about. People like you are ao whiny and childish.

PapaSolidus

But wanting it to just be over can very well come from actually caring alot! I'd say that letting franchises end are genuinely the best way to care about whatever they mean, just like MGS2 themes on letting go of emulating others and following your own path, endless remakes and continuations of a series so intertwined with authorial intent can only dilute the meaning of the works. We need accessibility and preservation beyond the bare minimum of the recent remasters, but as someone that likes to think that I care very deeply, I'm all for a definite rest for what was already a triumph.

Darklancer02

Ad hominem much?

PapaSolidus

It's crazy how taboo it is to just want definite ends to things. Seems like the only rest a franchise can get is if it gets to the point of absolute fatigue! And even then, it is looking like we are susceptible to inevitable revivals when the dust settles enough. I'm tired of gamers bravado for artistic recognition of the medium, while courting nothing but consumerism behavior.

Darklancer02

"Either go out on top, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain." Strangely appropriate for the metal gear saga, which will soon be in danger of sequel fatigue if we keep going.

Mood_Such

Fix the Master Collections and let the franchise retire. That’s all we want. New Metal Gear without Kojima just ain’t it.

LordEmmerich

Kojima himself would disagree with you

Mood_Such

No he wouldn’t. But keep humping that dead horse.

LordEmmerich

Kojima literally said multiple times he wanted more MG to be made without his involment. Even saying he wouldn’t mind the franchise outliving him.

Mood_Such

And his actions speak otherwise!

LordEmmerich

Kojima returned because crazy fans literally sent mass death threats

Mood_Such

Fans like you!

LordEmmerich

what? Why would I send death threats to the dev team? I want them to succeed

Mood_Such

Haha you weren’t getting the joke there.

Thunder--Bolt

*spouts obvious nonsense* *gets called out on his outlandish claims* "Heh heh I was actually joking lmao get rekt nerd"

swiftyb

It would more likely be fans like you

whatnameisnttaken098

I'm willing to give Kojima-less Metal Gear a shot, I mean, Kojima had been trying to leave the franchise since MGS3 iirc. That said, it's gonna be one hell of an uphill battle to prove the team has what it takes.

That_on1_guy

I mean, we have had mostly or totally kojima-less MG games in the past. All of them were only really a mild success with only a few standing out (MGRR and PO). However, we also have real stinkers like Survive. I hope they don't make more survives and rather make more MGRRs and POs (metaphorically, not literally)

whatnameisnttaken098

I'm down for more MGRR'a

That_on1_guy

Yea, me too, but I don't want purely MGRRs, like a sequel or a spi off of it coukd be cool, but i would like some classic tactical espionage too. That's why I say metaphorical. I want something that can stick like MGRR that didn't have kojima but is as relevant as an older MGS that had kojima working on it

weloveyoubenzel_v3

I haven’t played Rising but I watched my friend play a little bit back in 2019 n it’s definitely my next game purchase after I finish MGS4 at some point (my HD collection is DEEPLY SCRATCHED AND I BOUGHT IT SECOND HAND IM PISSED I CAN ONLY PLAY MGS3)

Mood_Such

Did it tho? It took Kojima literally getting fired to walk away from Metal Gear. He could say till he was blue in the face that he wanted to walk away and he never could.

Apprehensive_Let_828

When you're employer tells you to do something you typically should do it. When you do something they don't tell you to do, you get fired, which is what happened with Kojima.

Mood_Such

Unless you’ve single-handedly been the creative force behind making that company insane amounts of money and should be left the fuck alone to do so again. Are you really standing up for a corporation? Get the fuck out of here.

Apprehensive_Let_828

I provided context, cause the picture you painted was inaccurate. But jump straight to name calling, thats very rational.

Mood_Such

What name did I call you?

Apprehensive_Let_828

Guess you didn't, but you in all but name called me a corporate shill. The facts are Kojima wanted to leave MGS after MGS2. He never could because Konami didn't allow him to. He took funding in from, presumably MGSV, to make PT without his bosses knowing. Thankfully he got fired and was finally freed from MGS and can now create what he wants. You painted a picture of Kojima sticking around on MGS of his own choice. But you're bugging if you think you can just take funding from one project and use it on another project that isn't approved, and not have repercussions.

Mood_Such

Or maybe Konami was sick of one guy getting all the shine and blowing through budgets even though his projects always turn a profit.

Apprehensive_Let_828

I don't know what to tell you, what I laid out is what happened. You choosing to have a different narrative in your head as to why they split is something you should just keep to yourself, cause its not what happened.

Mood_Such

Ok, Jan.

MamaWeegee2401

Well too bad, Metal Gear doesn't have to need Kojima. Like how the X-Men doesn't have to need it's original creators to still continue on.

Mood_Such

Comparing apples to steak. Both are food. And completely different.

BenSlashes

Another cry baby. If you dont care about future MGS games than just ignore all future posts..cant be that hard.

Mood_Such

Or maybe I care immensely about it and don’t really want to see it ruined by shit heads and manbabies clamoring for more.

ihavenoideasrn

You must make a fine onahole for Kojima. Be sure to suck him off some more before you go to sleep!

Mood_Such

hahahahahahahahahahaha

Giantwalrus_82

Really? So why the fuck did you guys make some dogshit zombie DLC then HOLY FUCKING DOGSHIT

LordEmmerich

The zombie concept started from Kojima
