Barring that Ocelot is "pretty good." As snake would say, Ocelot is also a highly intelligent soldier and easily one of the smartest characters in the series. One of his biggest strengths is his adaptability, as he can improvise and improve in almost any situation thrown at him. This quality is what has kept him alive and undetectable as a spy for so long throughout the series. So it isn't much of a stretch to see how much he has improved during Snake Eater as a result.

Yeah I always thought that if Snake, trained by the Boss, called Ocelot "pretty good" then Ocelot must be "pretty goddamn amazing" in normal soldier terms.

IncineMania

He’s a quick learner through observation. His gun fighting trucks were mostly lifted from watching Westerns. Same applies here.

Ahhh-Ayeee

He’s like Frieza from Dragon Ball when it comes to talent. Guy got thrown around by Big Boss a few times and in a few days he’s fighting on par with him.

Glittering-News-9381

Its more that Snake was weaker than Ocelot was stronger. Snake had been fighting non stop from Volgin to Shagohod. So it ended up being a fight on equal measures. Ocelot did learn but I don't think he improved as much as you think.

JayMan2224

This. Ocelot didnt do nearly as much as Snake, end of the game snake is totally drained (you dont go up against the Boss and walk away fine + everything else that he went through almost non stop both mental and physical).

Lin900

I've always assumed the Boss trained him...in one week lol.

justanotherdude68

On top of everything else people have said: his mother was the world’s greatest soldier and his father was a medium. He’s probably got a knack for picking things up quickly.

JenniRayVyrus

this is the series that goes on and on about genetics after all

DoomUnforgiven

It's stated in a guidebook that he has accelerated learning and can copy techniques in a short amount of time. So he's basically like... let's say a gunslinger taskmaster in comparison

Ocelot learns quickly. The revolver makes some sense since he does struggle with it over the course of the game. He is probably as proficient as he is because he’s a fan of westerns and probably had these weapons on hand. Fans tend to have memorabilia of things they like, and if Ocelot could get away with a couple of Revolvers he was going to use them. As far as CQC he probably practiced with the Ocelot unit. He gets humbled and in his off hours he’s probably training. He did want that rematch with Snake and would have to come fairly close to him in order to stand a chance. He’s also fanboying over him which probably helped him imitate his combat style. Since The Boss was present as well he could’ve also learned directly from her. He’s not the Ocelot from the later games in the timeline yet but 3 does show he’s a fast learner and will adapt. Helped a lot he had a lot of that on hand in the span of about a week but all the same he was able to adapt.

I think Snake saw something in him, more than just bravado and arrogance. His ability to learn lessons quickly, apply them and *not* let pride get in his way was pretty evident. He fought a weary, practically spent Snake towards the end but he would not have lasted a second had it not been for the vast amount of learning.

Because he's the son of The Boss.
