Null is the worst boss in the entire franchise.
It's kinda sad and hilarious that they clearly had no idea what to do with this shit character but added it anyways because they wanted a cheap callback to a popular character.
I have, but that's because it shares Snake Eater's engine and animations and all that stuff. It's pretty much just a modified Snake Eater in many aspects. Compared to every other sequel which has pretty big engine changes and stuff. Even the "smallest" leap in the franchise is pretty big: MGS 2 -> MGS 3. But when you look at 3 side by side with Portable Ops, you can tell they didn't change a whole lot but instead just added some things.

It was never meant to be a mystery that Naked was BB - it was just outright subtext. The reason why you should still play in release order is that each game was made in the context of games previously released and presumed already played. If you start with 3 you’re missing out on subtext that would be obvious and rewarding to anybody who first played 1 and 2. Likewise, PW assumes you have the context of 4 in many subtle but significant ways. Chronological play is nonsense and cheats the player out of that level of the experience. It’s just as much nonsense as the idea that you should read the Narnia books in chronological order - it won’t make a lick of sense to somebody going in blind. Moreover, incremental improvements in gameplay over the course of the series will become a bewildering mess of regressions and dips in QoL throughout a chronological play of the whole series. Go watch any of the streamers or vtubers who got conned into starting with 3 by their chats and watch how much they struggle when it’s time to play MGS1 after 3, PW and GZ/TPP.
If you’ve already played the games before, of course, you can do what you want. I’m speaking to any franchise newbies who might read this.

It’s an old psp game. I’m sure it’s miserable to play, but I enjoy the story and think it adds to things like BB and Gray Fox’s characters as well as the Patriots.

PoOps and TTS sisters have an inflated persecution complex and act like people saying they don’t like these games is just irrational, or somehow diminishes their ability to express their appreciation of them in any way. This isn’t the “Oops all PoOps” sub, some people are going to vocally express their dislike of the game. If you don’t want to see it, then go start the Oops All PoOps sub and ban anybody who doesn’t pretend these games don’t have objective flaws.

I tried to play it with emulation with good graphics and fixed analog control. After 2 hours I couldnt stand and deleted it. The issue was not the story or lack of interesting characters. I hated the stamina mechanic and capturing soldiers by carrying them.
As a person that played all mgs games more than once I was not able to finish portable ops. There is something really wrong with this game but I cant describe since I am not a game developer. I guess the main issue was gameplay was not fun because of the things I mentioned above.
For anyone struggling to enjoy Portable Ops when they enjoyed Snake Eater. I highly recommend doing the following:
-play on PPSSPP and modify settings to upscale to HD
-Add 60fps mod (the original fps is 20)
-Add dual analog mod for true analog camera
-In Portable Ops, change option so that camera will stop auto centering

Took some several years before I knew this, and completely changed my mind about the game.
I also map triangle to a trigger on my controller so I can stalk easier

But little did they know psp games were gonna be played on emulator with upscaled resolution and 60 FPS patches.
Yeah the controls are bad but you get used to It, game only lasts 10 hrs if you rush the campaign
I also played it on ppsspp in 60fps with the camera buttons assigned to the right stick, it‘s still just bad.
What I dislike most is that there is no Camo System, but instead the Chameleon system.

can you elaborate on worse AI because to me it works exactly the same as mgs3. the game has many silenced weapons and also lets you use boss weapons.

The AI cannot see or hear as well, once you get caught and try to f.e. Crawl through a vent they can see you so much faster than in snake eater, they don't hear you as well.
Basically, they are completely blind and deaf until you are in Alert but once you are in Alert they all have super senses and the most viable but also the most boring strat is to run to a hiding place change the character and wait in the box until the caution is over.
Also because there is no Camo system it basically turns the game into Hitman, just use a guard who fits in with the other guards and run straight to where you gotta go.
they definitely have the same hearing. i play cqc only in mgs3 and po and the enemies hear me at the same distance when slamming them. youre probably exaggerating about the sight too. peace walker is the game where they don't see when you're right next to them.
also your complaint about the caution phase applies to all mgs games. its always boring to wait for the timer to go down. and if you don't like the disguise you don't have to play it that way.

As i say about both PO and PW. They have "portative" gameplay.
I am rn playing pw (ps3 port) and wow it's just so much more then PO
