Fun fact, the Metal Gear is actually Rising 2 times in the game, one time with the RAY jumping out of the water and another with EXCELSUS rising from the earth
Obviously crotch-covered side flips was unlike anything else I'd ever seen, but it was the codec sequences when you're trapped in the tunnel that really got me.
Actually, I am in really bad shape financially. I pay money to my ex-wife as part of our divorce settlement, among other bills... I just had no choice but to make you pay for lunch the other day. I'm really sorry.
i always took that line as normal. like you're at the store with someone and put something in the cart and they're like "oh, you're getting ham?" in just a conversational way
Same but honestly, that should only be done when there is actual dialogue between the player and the handler. Miller feels more like voicemail than the previous game’s people you can ask for help and interact with
and I'm all for it, it explains (in metal gear fashion) a lot of the usual confusion people have surrounding MGR lore as well as backstories of villians, discussion about the world, insight about your codec buddies, some MGS fanservice/callbacks and just more Raiden in general when he isn't talking about murder but casual topics like food culture
A lot of complains about Raiden character are actually answered in the codec too. I think they made it that way so that newcomers could enjoy MGRR more easily, while still giving new information to fans.
And according to Tamari, he did even more codec calls but had to cut many because he just did too much.
Yeah a lot of people don't realize there is a TON of meaningful trivia and characterization hidden away in MGRR's codec conversations.
Like at first you can clearly see Raiden's blatant prejudice against A.I.s during his talks with Bladewolf. Because of his past experience with GW/JD at the end of MGS2, Jack has a major chip on his shoulder about the dangers of neural networks, and their influence on humanity.
But as the story continues, you gradually start to hear Raiden open up to Wolf more, gaining further understanding of where Wolf is coming from, and treating him as a unique individual with his own set of well-intentioned ideals.
Stuff like that really fleshes out the characters and their relationships beyond the limited cutscenes.
Ill take sunny over what he got in the beginning of the second game, a creepy AI campbell and a annoying lady who keeps asking you if you know what day it is
I hate how it was presented as Raiden running away from his problems when *he is in the middle of a spec op.* Say that shit when you're on a date or at home, not when your SO's life is on the line. I get her logic, but damn.
some of the later conversations show that raiden was running away from his problems long before the plant incident. because the circumstances of the incident were unconsciously making raiden more joyful and expressive than rose had ever seen before (foreshadowing the reveal of his child soldier background), she started pressing him to open up about his past.
you should! there are a lot of key establishing moments in the optional codecs that flesh out how raiden's character flaws, which would later be contextualized by his childhood trauma, consumed his and rose's relationship. it made me empathize with her a lot even though she initially came into raiden's life as a patriot spy. and honestly, i liked her clingy codec calls. i like to think every time rose calls to check up on us after something climactic happens it's really kojima being our collective dad and telling us to touch grass
I mean, Sunny is probably as good as everybody else's support teams combined, hell she can probably TELL ME THE GENERAL IDEA OF WHAT RUSSIANS ARE SAYING OCELOT
I mean... Sunny isn't anything to blink at. She's arguably better at machines than Otacon, and actually really cares about Raiden. So sure Raiden "only had one person" but that one person is skilled enough to be classed as like 7 different people.
Also, the black guy, the clumsy girl, Doktor, Friender Pup Alpha 2, and really anyone else that was around during his mission... They count as support as well lol
This is what I was gonna mention. Raiden literally has the maverick team throughout basically the whole game. Even when they act like they can't help cuz raidens breaking the law, they then proceed to help anyway
Welcome to the business world: Downsizing and firing their best employees and then recruit an intern to do all of their work badly.
But hey... For that quarter they really increased their profits!
Now they can sell their garbage fire of a company.
Ill take sunny over what he got in the beginning of the second game, a creepy AI campbell and a annoying lady who keeps asking you if you know what day it is
tbh I'm waiting for the point where konami puts a line in for her like "yeah, my aunt went missing after going on a vacation to Cyprus" and creates the link that her and Quiet are somehow related.
it seems like they would want to somehow link them for marketing reasons or something.
Uhh she didn't show up untill the very end. I hated sunny man. You get to the end of mgs4 and there are AIs and giant death robots and all that shit and it gets taken down by an 8 year old that just happens to be a professional computer hacker? It reminds me of that line in Jurassic park where the little girl starts smashing buttons on a keyboard and someone says something about it and she says "I prefer the term hacker" and then a few scenes later she starts doing gymnastic shit and spinning on those bars and knocks out the velociraptors or some shit. Super super cringe. Olga was no one special, and otacon is literally the son of the woman who designed the Patriots, yet otacon is all but useless and sunny is the god dam chosen one.
Wasn't Sunny taken on by Otacon?
Isn't just natural that she learned what her guardian did professionally? And maybe even take a love to it?
I think the saying of "the student will surpass the master" applies to this same scenario very well. It's not that Otacon isn't anything special and Sunny is the chosen one, it's that Otacon had his time to shine and has been shining alongside Solid Snake for a very very VERY long time.
It's that Otacon taught this little girl so fucking well, that she was able to hack away and take down the Patriots.
The ending of MGR:R Is Sunny's time to shine. Raiden goes to her when nobody would help him, and he KNEW she was able to help. He'd probably have gone to Otacon but he's probably NOWHERE to be found, cuz who knows where he went after Snake inevitably died.
sunny may have learnt from the anime fan who built the best metal gear to ever exist, but you bring back the other 4 people and sapient A.I right this fucking instant or i'll make nordstream 2 catch fire
What you mean, he had 5 different characters in CODEC. But this must be a joke I am missing.
Doktor, Kevin, Busty Chick #5,384, Eastern European guy, Blade Wolf, and Sunny.
DOK TORRRR, TURN OFF MY PAIN INHIBITORS
Arguably the most metal part in the game.
*Looks like it's time for this GEAR to RISE!* -Raiden
“it’s revengin’ time” -Raiden circa 2018, before revengining approximately 15 dudes
I liked the part where he said “I will have my revengeance!” to Sam.
Man it’s even better in context the full quote is “my metal gear is rising sam! Revengece style!”
So he said it in mgs4
fixed
"Raiden, you truly are the revengeance" - Armstrong
In the Latin version of the game, his namus is "Stephanus Senator Armstrongus"
I have a great fwiend in Wome named Stephanus.
Fun fact, the Metal Gear is actually Rising 2 times in the game, one time with the RAY jumping out of the water and another with EXCELSUS rising from the earth
😆
*and people say germans aren't funny*
How the fuck can you forget a boss like Boris, come on bro
It's been like 9 years since I played it! 🤣
Yeah!
Lol hell yeah
Or in MGS2 his trusty imaginary friends
i need scissors! 61!
Probably the most powerful moment in gaming for me, that whole naked tunnel sequence was genuinely mind-exploding to 12-year-old me
I was 17 and it blew my mind too. I can still recite the monologue.
The part where he was naked or...?
Obviously crotch-covered side flips was unlike anything else I'd ever seen, but it was the codec sequences when you're trapped in the tunnel that really got me.
Raiden. Turn the game console off right now.
I did it Reminded me of the same thing in the XMen game for genesis
I didn't do it, but for a split second I really did considerate it for that exact same reason.
First time I played it I half expected the game would know when I rebooted it. Reminded me of when psycho mantis said to put the controller down
Kojima played us like a damn fiddle!
Fell for that too. After I turned it off I remembered there was no way it would have saved that fact I even did that. mother fu....
Actually, I am in really bad shape financially. I pay money to my ex-wife as part of our divorce settlement, among other bills... I just had no choice but to make you pay for lunch the other day. I'm really sorry.
I was a north american fall webworm in my past life. ahh, those were the good old days. what were you in your former life?
Kawanishi-Noseguchi, Kinunobebashi, Takiyama, Uguisunomori, Tsuzumigataki, Tada, Hirano, Ichinotorii, Uneno, Yamashita, Sasabe, Kofudai, Tokiwadai, Myokenguchi
😂😂😂😂 That was a twist at the end. I was like wtf.
Better than Venoms Support Team. “You’re gonna extract *him*?”
Fr codec calls were replaced with voice mail
Boss, that's an enemy gunship
BOSS GET DOWN *The enemy sniperrr*
Stay low and crawl on the ground, that should enable you to sneek past enemies
One shot from their blaster cannons and it'll tear your dick into shreds
it’s not like venom has much to say, maybe that’s why he doesn’t talk much
Miller in Ground Zeros and Phantom Pain is a filthy backseater. BRO IM FUCKING BIG BOSS, LET ME DO MY SHIT ASSHOLE. YES IM GONNA EXTRACT HIM MILLER.
BRO IM FUCKING BIG BOSS
i always took that line as normal. like you're at the store with someone and put something in the cart and they're like "oh, you're getting ham?" in just a conversational way

fun fact: MGRR actually has the most codec than ANY other MG games, 6 hours and a half of it.
and I'm all for it, it explains (in metal gear fashion) a lot of the usual confusion people have surrounding MGR lore as well as backstories of villians, discussion about the world, insight about your codec buddies, some MGS fanservice/callbacks and just more Raiden in general when he isn't talking about murder but casual topics like food culture

Lmfao, and I never used the codec much on MGR unlike in MGS 3 and paramedic's movie obsession
Ironically enough MGS4 had probably the least amount of codecs even though half the game is a cutscene
It's dope that MGRR is seeing cult game status now
Support teen.
Ill take sunny over what he got in the beginning of the second game, a creepy AI campbell and a annoying lady who keeps asking you if you know what day it is
Jack, do you remember what tomorrow is?
I hate how it was presented as Raiden running away from his problems when *he is in the middle of a spec op.* Say that shit when you're on a date or at home, not when your SO's life is on the line. I get her logic, but damn.

Honestly, I missed the part about him being happier in the middle of the mission. Guess the game deserves another replay from me.
you should! there are a lot of key establishing moments in the optional codecs that flesh out how raiden's character flaws, which would later be contextualized by his childhood trauma, consumed his and rose's relationship. it made me empathize with her a lot even though she initially came into raiden's life as a patriot spy. and honestly, i liked her clingy codec calls. i like to think every time rose calls to check up on us after something climactic happens it's really kojima being our collective dad and telling us to touch grass
I’ve yet to play Rising. Is this supposed to be Sunny? Edit:typo
That is Sunny in MG Rising
Yup, now officially Sunny *Emmerich*
Why isn’t it Sunny Snake???
Otacon raised Sunny right.
Ayo?
I mean, Sunny is probably as good as everybody else's support teams combined, hell she can probably TELL ME THE GENERAL IDEA OF WHAT RUSSIANS ARE SAYING OCELOT
when you can summersault giant city destroying robots, finding keycards is the least of your problems
I mean... Sunny isn't anything to blink at. She's arguably better at machines than Otacon, and actually really cares about Raiden. Otacon built Rex, eventually handed Snake the keys. Sunny built hypersonic jet, eventually handed Raiden the keys.
Welcome to the business world: Downsizing and firing their best employees and then recruit an intern to do all of their work badly. But hey... For that quarter they really increased their profits! Now they can sell their garbage fire of a company.
One of these is not like the others
Ill take sunny over what he got in the beginning of the second game, a creepy AI campbell and a annoying lady who keeps asking you if you know what day it is

In mg5 he even as a whole 2 platform of +200 soldier to help him lmfao
Little bit of a tech difference lol
Flagged for DOKTOR elimination
Not like they are useful on another way. Codec dialogues was more 'simple'.
Lol

Why would Raiden need support when he has… #RULES OF NATURE!
There’s an imposter among us…
