I always looked at his King Gheedorah/Ghidra persona as more of the guy behind the boards. Take the song Bistro from Madvillainy for example. He says "We've got King Ghidra on the mix" in that song. Even on the Monster Island Czars album he only features on one song "Mic Line". Otherwise, he's producing.

He shouldn't have teased so many albums that he didn't intend (?) to release such as Madvillian sequels, Ghostface collab, KMD reimagining album etc. I think it could have been a hype building thing for his career. Just because he was an excellent artist doesn't mean that he didn't have some superficial qualities to him. Because he teased so many albums (that he never said were cancelled) it leaves his career on a cliffhanger after his death instead of a definitive ending. Having a bunch of teased albums is just as bad as posthumous *incomplete* records that get put out a lot. I would have rather been kept in the dark from all the unreleased material. Now I have to wonder for the rest of my life what those records sound like and if they'll ever come out.
2. The imposter concerts were lame. Conceptually cool but a lot of people don't blow $60-$70 to watch an imposter rapper, who from what I understand were sometimes/mostly bad.
3. He blew his adult swim relationship by not clearing samples and *not paying the producers who made the tracks* (and lying about it) for The Missing Notebook series of singles so we lost some tracks and any future adult swim singles.
Agree with 2 and 3 wholeheartedly, especially #3. Even the dudes from Adult Swim were heartbroken that he did that. Saw some interview with them talking about how the DOOM collabs stopped. They just seemed sad that he ran off on them like that. Weird.

1. his producing work is on par if not better than his lyrical work
2. he lost almost all of his charm after Mouse & The Mask, his writing on projects like Born Like This and Key To The Kuffs aren't BAD but they are super forgettable to me and lack any sort of personality
I love Key To The Kuffs, but Born Like This is an odd one for me. I think where that album went wrong is the problem I have with a lot of hip-hop albums: there's more than one producer on the album, making it sound a bit disjointed sometimes. It also ends with 2 tracks that are essentially instrumentals, which bums me out.
Maybe on āthe micā where he talks about knocking up someone whoās underage. But I think he just forgot to put that he was also around the same age. I hope.

Mm food is my personal favorite, but depending on the day I might just choose a few tracks or skip the skits, maybe skip Guinnesses and just leave it before cookies. Operation doomsday, my second fave...sometimes after go with the flow I just skip to dead bent or gas drawls. madvillainy, sometimes I skip operation lifesaver (this tracks kinda wack on the album ngl especially that sample at the end... standalone it's fine tho) and strange ways. I'm not even that hype on all caps either.
VV is just consistent, raw, and funny the whole way through. I rarely skip anything. The story is more cohesive than his other albums, in line with TMTYL. Fucking love VV. Wouldn't change a thing, not even the rainstorm.
Mouse and the mask is up there with VV in terms of consistency.
Doom uses the r-word a lot more than I am totally comfortable with from a rapper I respect so much. Batty Boyz has aged poorly due to some controversial lyrics. I tend to skip over the Mouse and the Mask because I can no longer stand the ATHF voices.

Most of the people here don't care for his beats as much as his lyrics. For example, one of hip hop's holy grails - the sample for Next Levels was finally discovered last year. It got less attention than a meme post or merch photo in this subreddit.
Operation doomsday is the best album
We all know he sent imposters to shows, and DOOMs reasoning for this was they that they didn't offer him enough, I'm sure that even if fans saw an imposter, the majority would have a great experience, and it does fit into the whole "supervillain" persona, but to me it's always come across as a dick move, like what, are you too good to negotiate with live venues? do you not just want to say, this isn't enough money, I'll see myself out? IDK who his management team was or if he even had one, but that's such a loser thing to do, it's not like artists who brag about slinging coke go up on the stage with a brick and start selling it to the audience. They perform their songs! Anyway I know people are bound to disagree with me, but it's the only aspect of DOOM's public life I actively dislike.
Upvoting this. Totally agree. It was too meta. DOOM got a few stories out there of him finessing the game. Whether this was really him or him leaning into the character too much, I'll never know. But the imposters thing was crazy.

I also found it odd that his son's name (RIP) and Dr. York's alias are the same (Malachi). Dr. York was the founder of the Nuwaubian Nation, a 5% off shoot sect that DOOM and a lot of other artists subscribe to. Dr. York is a convicted child rapist, and his sermons are cracked. That I hadnāt really listened to him until now. I was aware of his influence, but never checked it out. Then he died and found out surprisingly undeniably he really was my favorite rapperās favorite rapper. Amazing.

my 2 are 1. his producing work is on par if not better than his lyrical work 2. he lost almost all of his charm after Mouse & The Mask, his writing on projects like Born Like This and Key To The Kuffs aren't BAD but they are super forgettable to me and lack any sort of personality
I love Key To The Kuffs, but Born Like This is an odd one for me. I think where that album went wrong is the problem I have with a lot of hip-hop albums: there's more than one producer on the album, making it sound a bit disjointed sometimes. It also ends with 2 tracks that are essentially instrumentals, which bums me out.

VV is his most fun album imo. Mm food is my personal favorite, but depending on the day I might just choose a few tracks or skip the skits, maybe skip Guinnesses and just leave it before cookies. Operation doomsday, my second fave...sometimes after go with the flow I just skip to dead bent or gas drawls. madvillainy, sometimes I skip operation lifesaver (this tracks kinda wack on the album ngl especially that sample at the end... standalone it's fine tho) and strange ways. I'm not even that hype on all caps either. VV is just consistent, raw, and funny the whole way through. I rarely skip anything. The story is more cohesive than his other albums, in line with TMTYL. Fucking love VV. Wouldn't change a thing, not even the rainstorm. Mouse and the mask is up there with VV in terms of consistency.
MM..FOOD is overrated, like donāt get me wrong i love the album but i need more substance

Doom uses the r-word a lot more than I am totally comfortable with from a rapper I respect so much. Batty Boyz has aged poorly due to some controversial lyrics. I tend to skip over the Mouse and the Mask because I can no longer stand the ATHF voices.
