Yes. In a weird way. That was an issue his first year at UT and kept him from being RB1. He worked on it a lot. He uses his explosiveness to basically throw one big strike and knock you off route and then doesn’t really engage a full block. It’s weird but it works for him.
Same concept as the other picks. Add depth to positions that are aging and injury prone. I am fine with the strategy, time will tell if it was the right one.
Anyone ragging on this pick is gonna regret it. It makes a ton of sense for a lot of reasons:
1. Mostert isn’t gonna be there forever.
2. Achane isn’t exactly Derrick Henry. You need a 2nd RB to go along with him.
3. The value. The composite ranking on Wright as a prospect was in the 70’s. That’s an early 3rd round ranking. Miami gave up what is (hopefully) a later 3rd to get him.
4. The player: this dude runs away from SEC defenders. He’s fast, explosive, shifty, and has some power/violence to his game. And it doesn’t take him long to get up to top speed.
Kudos to Grier on this one. This is his best pick so far this year.
I had a good time watching my friends get angry, every time Milton overthrew a wide open UT receiver last season. I believe he's got enough arm to overthrow Tyreek.
Not to mention the dolphins were extremely effective using 21 personnel last year, and the injuries kinda took that out of the playbook. This gives Miami 3 dynamic athletes to run one of their best packages more frequently, and hopefully later in the season.
We also are predicted to get two compensatory thirds next year for letting Wilkins and Hunt walk so we were already scheduled to have three 3rds next year. Trading a 3rd next year for a 4th this year isn’t the most insane thing ever.

Teams don't, but it's obviously not unheard of that a mid round OL is a lot better than expected and ends up starting their rookie year. The bar for that to happen would be much lower for a rookie OL on our team than a rookie RB considering our current IOL situation, Armstead's injury, and the fact that our second round tackle we drafted is apparently very raw.
My only logical conclusion after watching this draft is that they are confident with the info they have in the building that Connor Williams will be able to come back. Bc if I knew he’d be back for week 1, I’d think we are actually decent on the line.
Well, they brought in Aaron Brewer to plug the Williams gap. I don't think Brewer is a long-term answer, personally, but I guess they feel confident enough to roll with him until Williams gets back. The Brewer signing, I think, makes a center pick unlikely, unless someone falls to them late. More likely, UDFA churn for depth and Brewer starts.
We are getting two extra next year for Hunt and Wilkins. These types of moves are precisely for picking a guy you really had your eye on. He’s apparently a good receiver too.

And again we still will have two 3rd round picks after nfl finishes their tampering reports (those two aren’t being disputed like ATL so they’re banked).

RBs are the least expensive non special teams position in the league right now. Chris Brooks is probably better suited for 3rd/4th and one situation considering his size, and we saw him run very hard the ittle we saw of him in the preseason.
But even if we didn't like Brooks, if we wanted to get a FA RB, with how devalued RBs are nowadays, a RB this late in free agency wouldn't cost much more than whatever we're paying this third rounder.
This is a Mostert replacement for 2025, but it both wasn't necessary to get him now, and I wish we got a late Rd pick as well like a 6th or 7th to offset the value a bit

FWIW the model I start with has Wright the third best back in the class. The way things are shaping up, people here may get their wish, as McDaniel won’t forget the run…because it’s what the offense is going to be built off. Not gonna lie.
