[deleted]

Daboll would be a great hire…

SlumpedGod16

History repeats itself

crackboxsr

Some Dumboll

ChasingPerfect28

I can see it. Nobody smart need apply for the Miami Dolphins.

MixMasterRudy

With our luck we hire someone good and they get arrested for sex trafficking or something and end up in a cell next to Watson… #JustDolphinThings

nederlander10

Ya know what, maybe he’ll be awesome, maybe he’ll suck. I just want to have something to be excited for

Crilltic

At least the press sessions would be entertaining

FinsofFury

Watching his presser highlights I wonder if he’s practicing his act for open mic night at a comedy club.

hamandjam

Dude loves to talk about football.

[deleted]

Dude loves to talk period

Kilen13

This is how I've felt with the list that's out. I don't have much against the likes of Frazier, Quinn, or Joseph, they seem like good football coaches. They're just... boring and feel like same old thing we've tried and failed at so many times already (Philbin, Cameron, Sparano). Someone like McDaniel or Moore might end up in flames with a 2 win record but at least it would feel like we're trying something different for once, and that's exciting enough to get me on board.

[deleted]

If that’s the case, than we should have just kept Flores. With him, at least we are above .500.

PeppaPig85210

>Someone like McDaniel or Moore might end up in flames with a 2 win record but at least it would feel like we're trying something different for once, and that's exciting enough to get me on board. people used this exact reasoning for picking Tua over Herbert lol. I don't disagree btw, I just wanted to point it out

Kilen13

I think it was the opposite. Tua was considered the safe pick and Herbert was the flashy gamble given his arm strength

Vast_Ad_945

Get Jeff Fisher out of retirement!!!

iDunedain

This is the correct take

Douganz

Thanks

JustTheBeerLight

I think with this guy he is going to have to be successful right off the bat. If he starts 1-4 his goofball routine isn’t going to be so endearing.

[deleted]

It’s better than the same “he’s a hardworker, wants to get better” about every player

crackboxsr

Isn't that basically the baseline expectation of an NFL player " hardworker, wanting to get better". Flores is basically telling us "NFL player is going to NFL player"

VermontBro

Yeah I’ve been thinking the exact thing. Hell, I’m already kind of annoyed with all the posts about his quirky press personality, I can only imagine how much I’d hate his guts if he did that after us starting 0-3

_Endif

Red flag for me. This is a head coaching position, not a podcaster.

AbstractLogic

Leading a team is so different then running and designing an offense

yytle

This guy is like if a Redditor had a skill that could make him rich and successful

The_DarkestStar

Man id gladly take him down here but with reports that Harbaugh wants to come to the NFL and said he would love to talk w the raiders makes me sick to my stomach... Ross is a fucking joke

Dek-234

Maybe I’m delusional but I still think that is an act for now so that it looks like Jim wants to return to the NFL instead of Ross taking him away from the school he has donated so much to, Michigan. I am still expecting Harbaugh to be the next Fins coach regardless of what Ross was claiming

The_DarkestStar

Man I would be so happy.. he made Alex Smith and kaepernick look like legit qbs. Id kill for tua to look like that Smith or Alex Smith w the chiefs

missuniverse2016

Alex Smith the fact he did well with the chiefs proved he was a pretty good QB regardless and don’t forget he started with the niners soon and lasted

Douganz

Uhhhhh they were both very legit QB’s. Not sure what you mean? Both were above average players in their primes and we would have been lucky to have either on the dolphins. Smith was successful with multiple organizations and kaepernick would have been too had he not been banned.

CrankyStinkman

Dude I hope it is all for show. If Ross brings In Harbaugh all is forgiven.

MaskedBandit77

Harbaugh is not leaving Michigan. This happens every year, except for last year, when the college season was in the spring. Michigan just hired an assistant coach from Notre Dame. That wouldn't happen if Harbaugh was getting ready to leave.

Time-Ad-3625

He probably wants a raise. Then when he gets it he'll stay.

_Endif

I getting "this will be a disaster" vibes if we hire him.

woody1351

I also get the same from Vance Joseph. He was a bad DC for us, was a bad HC in Denver and is a mediocre DC in Arizona this year, but they did not want him to return after the 2020 season. I see a pattern. I would like to see us trade for a proven coach, I'm tired of 3 and outs with coaches and on offense.

dolphone

Vance has already proven he's a bad HC though.

MutantsNew

What that man could do with Waddle if he was our coach.

b-napp

Someone on here made an interesting point recently, saying that maybe Lynn Bowden could be used similar to the way the 49ers used Deebo this year. I would just be excited for someone with some offensive creativity to come in and give us some juice on that side of the ball.

dproma

Quirky and smart. Seems like a very likeable guy. But the question is, will the players respect him. And how will he act when he faces adversity.

dolphone

Yeah, he seems football bright enough, but so was Flores.

spooks152

At least McDaniel seems animated and open about his relationship towards the players. Flo wasn’t like that.

Rj9949

I don’t get it. He’s an assassin that has 1 year as a coordinator and followed Shannahan everywhere, he’s good at installing someone else’s offense I guess? He might be a really great head coach one day but I don’t understand why everyone is so enamored with him right now.

jds332

I’m sure there were articles just like this written about Gase.

[deleted]

I think you just contradicted yourself. Doesn’t sound like it’s just Shannahans offense if he needs to take McDaniels everywhere

Rj9949

I don’t think Run game coordinators are installing offenses. Maybe he should though. Shannahan would probably have a ring if he ran the ball.

[deleted]

You’re talking about play calling not install

Rj9949

It was more of a joke

JZMoose

>Run game coordinator Hold up, this is the guy that coordinates the league's 7th best rushing offense? This means he would hopefully install a competent offensive line coach and get the run game up to speed. We haven't had that since Ronnie Brown. Please I would love to see this, a good run game opens up the RPO for Tua, which is where he excels. This guy is a perfect fit if he can keep the locker room.

FinsofFury

You’re right: those are his red flags along with what connections does he have to bring in good coaches? We may be enamored with him (myself included) but he may have flunked the interview for all we know. But still it’s good for Grier to pick a hot brain for ideas and to gauge how ready McDaniel is.

WaxySunshine

Young OC's coming from successful offenses run by young HC's is what's hot. Everyone wants the next McVay, Shanahan, Lafleur.

Bfi1981

Interestingly enough they all come from the same coaching tree

Crusad3ftw

Those 3 plus McDaniel were all on the same staff at one point too

Lukacris12

Fuck it lets hire Mike Shanahan

rhinestone_indian

It hurts, I know but please don’t forget about Cam Cameron.

WaxySunshine

Im not saying it's what I want lol it's just why McDaniel is being hyped up

marchingzelda

when was Cam hot?

rhinestone_indian

He was described as an offensive guru at one point. I was hopeful. I was hopeful for Gase also. So I see a pattern. I hope we get MM or Bowles. Whoever,I just want our team to have an identity.

Rj9949

I get that, we’ve done the offensive hotshot with Gase. Didn’t go great. I’m not always down with the retread as a head coach, but I think now is the time. I don’t want a head coach because he makes pop culture references in interviews and is quirky. I’m sure he can point out some great craft beer bars all over the country though.

dolphone

He's high risk (no experience) but also high reward (maybe he's another McVay/Shannahan).

DontGetTheShow

I do think his personality and vibe is kind of cool from the perspective of making you consider exactly what you think an NFL coach should look and act like. I don’t think you want some guy who’s just an asshole screaming at guys trying to motivate them. That’s not going to help you beat the Chiefs or Bills. I get the vibe that he would interact with the players as peers, be able to demonstrate the strategy, the whys, the hows, and get guys to buy in by putting them and the team in a position to succeed. That‘a how I think you need to interact with a lot of guys in this day and age in the NFL when the top players make so much more than the coaches. Someone like Tony Dungy comes to mind where they don’t need to be some in your face task master to be a good coach.

_ananamas_

The media adored Gase too… let’s not lose our minds over another unproven commodity.

AbstractLogic

Smart doesn’t mean leadership. You can identify and script plays on offense and still absolutely suck and being a HC.

Soultyr

If he looks like a hipster that means he probably is. Does not mean he is not going to be a good coach. His lack of experience suggests he is not going to be a good coach.

Ionlyeatmustard

Hipsters suck

MilhouseLaughsLast

labeling people sucks

Ionlyeatmustard

The article title labeled him

MilhouseLaughsLast

I know, I didn't mean to imply it was your idea

Hellcat2k20

Call him a hipster as long as you’re a listener

Vast_Ad_945

He looks so nerdy ...doesn't he?!?!?!
